Donnie: having more to give is a better place to be than the reverse - but I sense your frustration. It's still a great time ... second half was superb. Top drawer sir.

It was an early one for me ... started the watch at 5:10am, my daughter still isn't right so I wanted to get my run over and done with before she got up. A tiring but decent effort, pretty happy.

Just under 23miles Friday. Longest single run for a time and did cook me a bit. 4miles treadmill increasing speed today, followed by a cheese pasty.
    897miles done.

Did a little 3 miler this evening which felt shocking.

    381 YTD
  • Donnie",
Better to be cautious methnks - over time one gets the balance right by controlling the pace from the start I found.
All the best for the little 'un Steven Morrison2, I know how it feels, my son is 34.
Dubai Runner, less than a quarter to go.
JT141 - just four marathon distances left and you got it.
    Still on target AndrewD
I got the disappointment of losing the FA Cup to a bunch of has beens yesterday by doing 20.18 miles early this morning - got a stiff back and thigh still not perfect despite taking it easy at parkrun plus a bit (total 7.08 miles) making
    YTD = 1151.05 miles
Son had a good game (friendly as a warm up for CONIFA World Cup) - he played at Centre Mid first half and had a good second half at Right Back when he also took the Captain's arm band as the normal captain was rested. They drew 1-1
he reckons if he has a good game again next Sunday he will have a good chance of starting each time - he is the oldest in the squad and this is his second CONIFA World Cup.

Mmmmm... cheese pasty... errr - I mean evenin' all! Mmmmm... cheese pasty...

That video was great, Hobie - well done on completing the beast and also well done getting out for a nice leg stretch.

Sorry to hear your little girl is poorly, Steven - hope she's better soon! Great effort doing a "crack of dawn" run in lieu of the missed 10K and congrats on passing the 700 mark!

Nice running lilly - 300 is in sight!

Good work Andrew... great consistency  Sorry you had a disappointing run today though.

Sounds like a fantastic tournament your son's in, Harmander - hope it goes well for him. He should have turned out for your guys yesterday... a shockingly poor display! Hope the quad and back are fully healed for the "pop up" marathon (not like you to be injured! Take care of yourself.).

Dubai - your running environs sound really nice... baking temps not withstanding!

Very nice 10K, Donnie... really good negative split. Sorry the time didn't quite meet expectation but it bodes well for any up coming 10Ks (btw - I can sympathise... I too am too conservative in pacing  )

JT your random running abut is racking up big distances... don't know how you do it without any race targets - but it seems to suit you well. A cheese pasty would really hit the spot right now...

Thank you for all the wise counsel folks - I appreciate it and it actually really helped. I managed another typical lunchtime run on Thursday of 5.30 mi. and a 4.09 mi. trot with 2 miles at goal HM pace last night. Then... I ran my first ever fell race this morning!!! Bloody hell it was tough (don't know HOW you managed the Beast, Hobie!). It was straight up Lantern Pike in the High Peak and straight back down again 1.2 miles and 200 m/656 ft of elevation. Was persuaded to do it by a couple of work colleagues and we then also did a 5.27 mi. additional fell run - along with running to and from my friend's house and the race, today was a 10.34 mi. day.

    YTD: 592.82 miles.

  • Afternoon,

After catching up, I conclude another busy week by you all!

Harmander, Congratulations on another Marathon and passing 1100 miles, quite incredible.

Hobie, Watched the video and that certainly looked like a challenge, well done sir.

Lilly, Nearly at the 300 mile mark, well done.

Donnie, As Steven has already said, it is still a great time and great second half.

Steven, I love getting out first thing, especially as it is now light. Well done on the 700 mile mark and 19 mile long run.

Nell, Glad you are back out again, I could not give any advice that has not already been suggested by our group. Fell race certainly must have made the legs ache!

As for me, just four training runs to log. Weather has been lovely though and made them quite enjoyable (even the hill intervals)

    15.05.18 - 6.25 (Fast middle)
    17.05.18 - 6.25 (Hill intervals)
    18.05.18 - 6.25
    20.05.18 - 6.25 (Progressive)

    YTD = 532.45

Lilly, close to 300; David, 550 on the horizon; Nell, close to 600; JT, very close to 900; Harmander, 1100 (wow) and everyone else logging some great miles.

Nell, fantastic you're mojo has returned...ha fell races are just the best...usually cheep to enter and almost guaranteed to result in muddy legs & probably loss of toenails...first half of Beast is like a warm up...second half is almost all climbing so much harder.

Nice 6 mile beach run in work on Thursday & a Parkrun PB for me on Saturday 20:14, hot 4 miles today at lunchtime...was trying to be good at the weekend for wedding anniversary so no long runs.

I'm racing our boat up in North Wales this weekend so planning some miles running around the trails of Coed Y Brenin on Friday.

    638 miles YTD.

Watched that video Hobie 1495, looked like a fantastic event, just my cuppa, I think.

Fell running, Nell? now thats a  bit hardcore. Nearest run to one I think I've done might be Offa's Orror, but no mud involved, just big hills.

Nice race report StevenMorrison 2, and well done on the PB and to all the rest on this thread, some great running.

Not so for me, I'm afraid, lost out on about a fortnights running with a heavy cold( yeah man flu, right), missed my marathon, Halstead, so a bit peeved, all that training down the plughole. Not been a good year really what with race cancellations and now this.

But, came back for last weekends Green Belt Relay, had organised my clubs team of 11 for the 220mile relay around London and all went well (ok, 46th out of 50, not brilliant, but we're not called Joggers for nothing!) and 21miles of trails for me.

So, YTD       474.64, bit behind where I wanted to be but still on track for 500 by end of June.

    Ahoy-hoy good people!

A nice selection of run sessions for you, David - well done. You are 100% correct about the achey legs... my right quad is like a slab of granite at the moment!

Congrats on your parkrun PB Hobie - lots of good parkrunning going by threadsters at the moment. Happy boat racing on the weekend! Yep - £3.00 entry fee paid to two nice ladies sitting in the back of a horse box in a field that serves as pub car park... a great experience.

Hey senidM - good to see you again... was wondering where you were! Sorry to hear you've been struggling with ill health, especially since it caused you to miss your mara. The relay sounds like it was fun - as does the trail running  No mud for me on the Fell either - just lots of scrubby heather-type stuff...

I think the outing on Sunday has kick-started me! Had a double day today - the first time in ages... a track session at lunchtime today (6 x (400 m, 200 m recovery)) totalling 4.56 mi., then a gentle club run starting from the track - many of the club runners had done a session last night so it was a nice easy run this evening. Annoyingly, I didn't pay attention to my watch and I clocked 4.99 mi. - didn't notice until I'd driven home! Anyway... 9.55 mi. total distance today - I'M BACK!

YTD: 602.37 miles (woo hoo! That snuck up on me... )

  • Glad to see you're back at it Nell!

Thanks for the comments about 10k tactics. The way I approach my races is to always look for a negative split although last time out I was too cautious. I've entered another evening 10k (Walkington near Beverley in East Yorks) although not until mid July.

Nell: So glad the mo-jo is back (in a Bruce Forsyth Strictly style 'you're my favourite').

Harmander: A friend based in Wood Green is taking quite an interest in the football tournament your son is involved with. He's been very excited about his planned trip to the Yorkshire v Tibet game.

Dubai, Lilly, Hobie and Dave C: Simply loving your work.

    Hey chaps

Apologies for not posting for a few days but been sooooo busy at work and running.. and another Bank Holiday to deal with again! Feels like there is one every week right now...

Great miles being run by everyone at the moment and good to see PBs, and mo jo's returning..

I have the following miles to add

    21st 5 miles
    22nd 4.3 miles
    24th 8.6 miles

YTD 305.95 Really going to push on now and keep trying to up weekly miles.
  • Congrats on passing the 300 lilly

No run today and friends arriving from London tonight for a messy weekend, doubt there’ll be any running..
  • Having listened to advice from others (including you guys on this forum) and my body, after struggling to ignore the pain in my left quad on Tuesday when I did 10.48 miles, I took Thursday off and only did the basiic to and back from Parkrun yesterday (7.09 miles) where I made the decision NOT to run the Pop Up Saturday marathon later in the day. This makes
    YTD = 1168.64 miles.
I will not be running on Tuesday or Thursday next week to give myself a week off and see how it goes next Saturday.
  • Donnie2Donnie2 ✭✭✭
Saturday Park run in lovely conditions, enjoyed it and 10 seconds away from a PB, just over 23 mins.

Harmander: Get fit soon. I think a break, difficult though it is, is the way to go.

Lilly: Ticking over nicely, any events planned?

    Howdy folks,

I've been absent for a week, so there is too much to catch up on but I will say; it was terrific to see "I'M BACK" in Nell's post, and a shame to see Harmander forced into taking a weeks break, although it sounds like the right call - I hope the rest works its magic!

Well, after a decent run on Monday last week (from a time & distance perspective anyway) I pretty much scunnered myself in terms of being in the mood for running. It was a busy week (at home and at work), and I was only to happy to take the excuse to sit on my backside and ignore the trainers.

All the while I knew I had a 10K on Sunday and I was dreading it to be honest, but my wife refused to let me dog it and off I went. I'm glad I did, because hopefully it's going to get me back out the door again.

I got there in good time for the Shettleston 10K. It was 10am on a glorious sunny day, but a nice breeze and a little occasional cloud, perfect day for a race. I put myself in the middle of the pack and waited for the klaxon. It's a nice long straight drag for the first 2K, difficult to get boxed in and I was able to settle down into my running pretty quickly. Having my most recent 10K as a marker really helped and I had resolved to just try to shave 5 secs a mile of my pace and run it as even as I could. This seemed to work and that meant I actually had a pretty managed morning, I was pushing hard but on rested legs and in the knowledge that 'in-theory' I had the pace. I felt like I was slowly working my way through runners for the whole race.

It was a fairly uneventful run - my mood was fairly non-plussed before and if I'm honest it was equally 'meh' for large portions during. I felt a lot like I was going through the motions - but I'm glad I was mentally able to push myself for the entire distance. As I was rewarded with another PB 46:38 ... 2018 has definitely been a big year for PBs lol. I have two more 10K races coming up (one in a week - the other on Fathers Day) so we'll see what the legs have in them. Although I suspect I won't give myself a weeks rest before those lol. Hopefully, and more importantly, I'll be able to get back into my rhythm again now.

Well done on the PB Steven, great race report to.

    Lilly,congrats on smashing through 300.

Harmander, I guess you know better than all of us that a week off will help and you'll be back stronger than ever... If that was possible :-)

Wow, it was hot here over the weekend... I was supposed to have been racing the boat at Bala but that got binned so I went out and did some coast path miles... HOT but stunning

  • Afternoon ladies & gents,

Another week, and plenty of activity for me to catch up on.

Hobie, Yes it certainly has been hot & humid, well done on the 20.14 Parkrun, if only.

Senidm, Had a look at the "Green belt relay" looks like a lovely course for a relay, well done on your part.

Nell, Passed the 600 mile mark, glad to see you are BACK!

Lilly, Well done on passing the 300 mile mark, I am guessing a busy working weekend for you.

Harmander, Wise choice, the pop up marathon would have been hot, plus with the 16 times back and forwards across the blue bridge surely would not have helped. Hope you soon feel better.

Steven, Another great race report and well done on the PB.

As for me only a couple of runs to report as I have a mild groin strain, and no it wasn't anything to do with the wife :D  I think it was at work last week, I did take a couple of days out but it is still giving me grief - I think I need a new body!

    23.05.18 - 6.25 (Fast finish)
    24.05.18 - 6.25 (Speed Intervals)
    28.05.18 - 6.25 (Progressive with occasional limp)

    YTD = 544.95

I have a planned 10 mile slower run tomorrow and fast middle session on Thursday, then away for the weekend, so will take it easy.
  • It has become apparent I can't add up either.

Steven: Love the race report. My next outing is the Walkington 10K in July, when it comes to this site, I'll try harder. Well done on the PB, I'm also targeting sub 47.

Lilly: Good luck at Southend. I'm sure it'll go well.

    Salut maintenant!

Great consistent running, Dubai. Hope the weekend was sufficiently messy and you enjoyed the company of your friends

Thanks Donnie! Nice speedy parkrun there and within touching distance of 500 miles. You'll be close on my 10K heels when you dip under 47 mins - I think it's on the cards soon.

Well done on pushing through the busy Bank Holiday, lilly - glad you've got a bit more time for running again. I'm going to get in an early very best of luck for Southend HM... you'll smash it!

Very wise, Harmander - sending speedy healing wishes your way. Hope Saturday's test run goes OK.

Another great race report Steven... loving the use of "scunnered" thrown in for good measure  An object lesson in the value of rest - and a fab new PB... really well done! You're breathing down my neck time-wise now!

Hobie - well done on yet more scenic running. I really do envy you! How come the Bala race was binned?

Hahaha David... I thought it was only me who thought things like that!!! That's some speedy sessions for someone with a strained groin (*thinks* don't make "rub it better" comments... DO NOT make "rub it better" comments...!!!). Don't want to be doing any of that work stuff... far too dangerous - stick to multi-lap marathon-ing

I've got a bit behind with my logging due to mad busy work. I've hit conference season and work will be mad for June, July and August! I'm off to San Diego on Friday morning for a week. The visit coincides with the Rock n Roll mara/HM, which I considered entering... but there's NO WAY I'm paying $175 for a HM!!! :open_mouth:
Managed to get to Thursday's track session, which was 16 x 200 m (gaaahhhh!!!) that totalled 4.39 miles with w/u and c/d. The Bank Holiday weekend saw a 13.21 miler and a 4.10 miles along the river bank dodging regatta goers. Finally, today: an easy lunchtime run with my workmate to celebrate finishing my two posters for the San Diego conference in the nick of time - total 5.17 miles. Making a grand total to add on of 26.87 miles.

    YTD: 629.24 miles.

(Will attempt to run in SD without getting lost - but unlikely to have time to log in again until next weekend [9th/10th June] hence early good wishes to lilly. Good running to all!)

    Morning all,

Little running to report over the past 10 days, firstly due to being on holiday and then due to an annoying groin strain that I picked up a couple of days ago. It seems to be the 'in vogue' injury on here though.

Feels a little better today, so I hope that by the weekend it may allow me out for a run.

In the meantime I am stuck on 388.5 YTD and am falling behind the curve :-(

Well done to Steven for the PB by the way!

  • Hello all,
Getting itchy feet reading all the running going on.
But keeping my promise to resting.
Went to one of my two trusted Asian treatment specialists yesterday for a quick fix - got my quad sorted by about 70% AND he found the cause of my stiff back (had a trapped nerve betwen L4 and L5 that he fixed too - oh the joy of being able to bend down to tie my shoe laces.
Looking forward to watching my son play tomorrow - even 'er indoors is going
  • Morning all,

Andrew, I can sympathise, very annoying hope you soon feel better.

Nell, I did ask the good lady wife to rub it better, I won't put her reply on here :D Hope San Diego goes okay, stay safe,

Just one 8 mile very very slow run to add, It was very uncomfortable, so will have the weekend of and see if that helps.

  • Howdy folks,

After leaving it a week and struggling to catch up with everyone I thought I had better update things sooner rather than later.

Hobie: Sounds like you have some wonderful views to accompany your running, Superb

DavidC: Sorry to hear about your injury, 'very uncomfortable' does not sound good, finger crossed your weekend off does the trick.

Lilly: My apologies for missing you breaking the 300, great work and hopefully you can spend less time in restaurants now the Bank holiday is over.

Donnie2: No-one is more surprised than me by my 10K times - I'm sure a Sub-47 performance in July beckons.

Nell: Nice sessions there, 16x200m ... I don't like the sound of those lol. I hope San Diego treats you well - Stay Classy!

AndrewD: as with DC, I'm sorry to hear about your injury, hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Harmander: Well done on sticking to your guns ... we all know it's not easy to back off. Delighted to hear treatment has helped - great news! And good luck for the lad tomorrow!

Thank goodness I run in the morning, because there is no way I'm running in the evenings - 25C it was at 8PM on Monday night ... and they've all been that warm. 1st thing in the morning when I run ... it's been as high as 14C - but that is at least bearable for a pasty-skinned Scot like me.

I put three consecutive days together for the first time in over a year ... feeling pretty tired, but happy. I'll give myself tomorrow off and see what's in the tank for Saturday. Anyways, happy running/resting all.
