Don: Well done on giving a good shot and training, really truly sorry to hear what happened, don’t get beat up about, I know it must be extremely frustrating with all the training you did and that you were more than capable. You did right, the most sensible thing than causing some highly regrettable injury over pride.
Ale: Great progress, sensible
Dustin: Bloody hell Dustin, that’s great, well done
Welsh: Seems like a while since I said this, “machine”
LMH: I have empathy there, similar to when I was in Ireland, the village I was in seemed like an Island all the running around the beach/village got really boring and desperate, as it was just back and forth, hence a 6 mile run seemed like 12 to me, felt like I was a drone mapping the area. Still… better than nothing
RFJ: Enjoy Palma, sounds good
Chicksta: No plan can be a tonic, I intend to have no plan after next weekend.
Emz: Not long now.
8.5 yesterday, now that is it, just a light plod to get out today after school drop off, I’m testing out my new Asics Cumulus 20s, are ok, better than 19s that were awful, but not as good as 18s or previous versions. Bit stiff and clumpy. Like a favourite takeaway meal, daren’t gamble a different choice as it could be a lemon and would be an expensive six month wait to try something else.
What: Plod not sure how far
Why: To get out

Progression
Morning
LMH - only broke the collarbone and dislocated the shoulder I already had the rotator and impingement issues :¬)
What: ride done - gym and run PM
Last hard: the weekend - ran 17.11 for km , my fastest for 4 years and at my age nearly 84% WAVA
Last rest: Booked in for a few weeks time
Lyrics: No
I need some time to catch up and reengage but I am trying
In that case Gobi there shouldn’t be any reason it won’t get back to where it was before your accident, my physio (who is a bit of shoulder specialist) says it takes at least a year for shoulders to settle. Not looking for an argument here but haven’t you historically been a little dismissive of WAVA and age group racing?
Benjy - could you maybe look for a different version of your shoes (i.e. an equivalent in a different brand) mega cheap online and have them as a birthday/Xmas present to try? Hope you don’t find the taper too hard - it works. I feel bad complaining about running in the lovely weather with the beach etc but you’ve captured the issue, I don’t even have residential streets to explore (which can be quite fun as they decorate the houses for Halloween) as the island is so small there isn’t the usual grid system.
Hope your QoP can sort your legs Dustin, I think I need to make an appointment when I get home.
Great to see it coming back Poppy.
Is your race this weekend OH?
Hope you had a good run Alehouse.
What: Short and easy
Why: Stiff knee, grumbling hamstring
Last hard: Not thinking of what awaits me at home
Last rest: 29/9
Lyrics - no.
Gobi: Good to see you around and excellent time there! Envy. Benjy: Hold it back, rein it in.. LMH/Dustin/AOH I'll be joining you on the easy outing today. LMH hope the grumbling stops soon. Dustin, my QoP out of actin still and awaiting her return to work! Steady progress Ale! Keep it going
What: Something light
Why: CBA and dog barking
Last hard: Staying home yesterday
Last Rest: Yesterday
Lyrics: Yes...flashback to my yoof and I'm with Benjy...there will be a bit of self-kicking.
LMH - my right has been ruined for decades and my left a decade behind, there is no year and all fine there is just manageable and don't swim you are a duathlete to remember :¬)
To answer your question - never been against WAVA I find it to be an acceptable gauge but I wont lie I still see 17.11 as dog slow and a minute slower than my best and that ship has sailed.
Age Group - I still have issues with people calling themselves GB athletes and missing off the words Age Grouper. I Still have issues with Age Groupers moaning about cost and complaining they are not sponsored, I still have issues with "lower standard than PRO" athletes with lists of sponsors and finally I do still stand on a start line and target every single person I see in a GB suit in a non GB event and try to put a beating on them in my ORANGE clashing kit :¬)
I still race to win and think overall first but (no laughing) at 46 years old I was still at the very sharp end of local events(winning them and old men should not win overall) which told me I was racing the wrong people and so in a quest for higher standard racing I have had to go back to racing Age Group Qualifiers as I know I am measuring myself in a truer environment. The reality is I still report myself as 27th overall and then say first in Age Group.
Yes I was disappointed at not "winning" parkrun. I spend a lot of time coming 2nd or 3rd as I am just that 20/30 seconds too slow now.
No argument seen or assumed LMH and happy to answer your comments :¬)
I'm 50 in 2020 so am considering a return to the blue suit legions
RFJ: Good to see things are coming together. Happy anniversary.
Sad to hear about the death of those young men at Cardiff
LMH: You could run across the bridge and into Fort Myers Good hill training too.
Benjy: Hang in there. Not long to go now!
Dustin: Ouch! I can feel your pain.
What: short run tonight
Why: doctors appointment this morning so missed my opportunity
Last hard: Friday
Last rest: 17/9
Lyrics: yes
I’ve done That chicksta - we are five miles from the bridge - but it’s still an out and back through the roadworks.
I too generally like to give my position overall first Gobi, then in relation to the other women and then age group - I do like beating the youngsters. I keep thinking about duathlon but so far my shoulder hasn’t been good enough to let me do much on the bike. I think I’d need to throw money at it too - a new bike fit given my limitations and possibly a new bike and I’m not sure I want it enough to do it. Having been there, done that as an age group triathlete representing GB in that way doesn’t have a huge appeal and I only ever really race myself - I can’t control what anyone else does. If it motivates you it’s a good thing though. I’m glad there was none taken.
