Saturday 19th January 2019 - Well come on pretty baby

Morning.

Lyrics - Well come on pretty baby

Enjoy the skiing Hazel - good cross training.

Are you Norwegian espen? My husband spent some time where you are when he was younger and would like to go back - I've never been.

Hope you have/had a safe journey home emzap.

We had quite a lot of rain overnight and it's cold again this morning (and for the foreseeable according to the Met) so not sure what conditions will be like but as I will be doing the weekly shop and walking Grace first things may have improved by the time I get out for my run. I can hope anyway.

Have you seen the neurologist yet RFJ?

What:             short and easy
Why:              recovery
Last hard:      the wind at Brass
Last rest:       14/1
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

  • Morning!

    Lyrics: I believe so.

    What: slow parkrun

Why: not a morning for running fast, not that I do anyway. parkrun is now my medium long run of the week; not too long ago it was the long run, so that represents some sort of progress.

And having just brought the milk in...I can confirm, it is  rather cold outside, but obviously not as cold as elsewhere. It will be rather a shock for Emz on her return!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Morning

Very wet here this morning and over night lots of surface water on roads and pavements which are flooded in places.

    What: 6.19 miles
    Why: Because I can
    Last hard: This Lurgy
    Lyrics: Maybe not
    Last rest 8/1

Torrential rain the whole way ah well better than ice :)
    ALF: Always a little further
    Miles makes smiles.
    Progression
  • What: not a lot, perhaps short walk
    Now in Edinburgh, tired
    Last hard yesterday
    Last rest: 7 days ago
    Lyrics: don't think so.
  • Morning again!

Enjoy Edinburgh and the rest of your break, OH!

Dry here, WP! And no wind. Grey and still.

    What: 8k including parkrun

Why: MLR with a progressive run included. Intended it to be reasonably slow but it was warmer than I thought so did put a little more effort than I would have done had it been cooler. 4 degrees though so lots of layers. First k was 5:30, with the rest gradually reducing to 4:32 to record 24:32. Hopefully quite a few more gears yet! Did have to give myself a bit of a talking to around 3k at the exact point that Emz struggled a little when we ran it together. Thanks for the encouragement today Emz!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Ale: 8K great stuff
Welsh: Tiptop on the PB yesterday
OH: Have a blast in Edinburgh
Espen: Norway? Nice! Got cousins in Norway, supposed to be going there this year, had it planned, but has been hijacked (which is nice) by a wedding in Ireland and a family reunion in New York the week after, so budget blown for this year, will have to be next year.
Wabo: Sounds like a good morning run with mate. Suits some and not others running with other people, I like to run with others when I get chance, I need to find somebody who will run with me for 8+mile runs. When it comes to running I really am Billy No-mates. Can't do clubs as time has to be elastic and ad-hoc.
RFJ: I just use a bookmark for Recent Discussions, toherwise it can get a bit clunky at times. 10k trail sounds good, something I'd like to do. Might do woods/forest tomorrow.
    Hazel: Enjoy the skiing
LMH: Hope you get out, weather calmed down here

Yesterday was out before crack of dawn for a meeting in Beverley. Got back went for run as the turn to darkness was starting, pretty treacherous with ice on pavements, lot's of stop/start/test pavement. Very dissapointing as only 5 miles in about an hour and a quarter. Did think shouldn't have bothered, but I'd rather have a bad deal than no deal, sorry I mean a bad run than no run. On the plus side didn't fall and break a bone.

What: Gym this afternoon to Pick Of The Pops
Why: My loose but tight (!?) run schedule dictates it is a leg rest day and prevent muscle wastage session.
    Lyrics: Yep!

    Afternoon

What: some sunbathing then the long journey back up north
Why: all good things must come to an end
    Last hard: walking
    Lyrics: nope

Foot still blue and swollen.  Redoing strapping to allow for more swelling in plane.

Dogs have realised we are leaving and one won't leave my side. It makes me a bit sad.

Good parkrunning going on this morning (I unfortunately had to miss my planned Hout Bay run for obvious reasons).

Ale good to see steady improvement from you. Rfj too.

Yes please no one else end up on crutches! Be careful on the ice. I'm wondering how cold my foot is going to be when I'm back...

    Have a lovely day all

  • Aww, bless, Em. Dogs are so adorable. I'm a big fan of Adriene's Benjy  have a safe journey home.

    Well done ale. Progress indeed.

Impressive parkrun tally, RFJ. Hope the neurologist has some answers.

Have fun skiing, Hazel but be careful. Dangerous business this skiing lark. You've put a solid training block in so some time off makes sense.

Benjy: I like a muscle wastage prevention day :)

Well done poppy getting  in that rain.

Hope wabo had a good race.

Did the conditions get better, for your run, LMH?

Didn't make it to parkrun today unfortunately. We had ice and the gritters hadn't been yet so I decided it wasn't worth risking to end up in a ditch. Beautiful sunny day and no wind though B)
Put the sensible head on and ran 4 miles on grass. Our forecast is six weeks of a cold snap with temps as low as minus 20 :o hope they're wrong. Tomorrow's race will certainly see me in full winter kit.

    What: 4 easy miles
    Why: sensible head
    Last hard: hearing the forecast
    Last rest: 21/12
    Lyrics: yes

Yesterday's were Like the way I do, Melissa Etheridge
  • I hope your forecast is wrong too chicksta - that's a bit extreme.

Good MLR Alehouse - it was colder than I was expecting here but no ice fortunately.

Muscle wastage prevention for me this afternoon too Benjy. Nice holidays you have planned.

I think you need a pair of thick socks to put on when you land emzap.

That doesn't sound like much fun Poppy.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday OH.

Do you think the issue is resolving RFJ?

A slightly better run for me this morning, even saw a couple of miles at what would usually be my LSR pace so I'm hoping improvement continues. Avoided my hamstring exercises at the gym.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning all or not :-)

What: time trial bike testing and spinning legs out AM run PM
    Why suits me
Last hard: soft play area and thousands of those small things all afternoon
    Last rest : 31st Ocrober

Unlike RFJ I'm not an Saturday regular so no parkrun for me. So here is a question for you Matt.

I started a year before you, just beat you to 250 , do you think you will do 500 before I do 400? I have about 16 to go.
  • That sounds like my idea of hell Gobi - you don't have any little ones do you?
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Hello everyone
RFJ - yeah same issue with finding the forum, new layout I guess?
Gobi - soft play - Sounds like fun!
Ale - Re strides, well yes, I only call 100s "strides" everything else is 150s/200s/300s.

Bit of a yukky day here, eldest left for Uni this morning - although she's back in a few weeks anyway. Ummed and ahhed about a long run but in the end...
    What - 18 miles
Why - Sunday League XC tomorrow (recovery for me) so went long today
    last rest - December
    last hard - mentally, today.

Lmh- girlfriend has a 3 year old and met her friend who has 2 under 4

My daughter is 18 in March
  • I sometimes teach up to 30 3 and 4 year olds, Gobi..never a dull moment!

    Nicely banked 18 Dustin!

Glad you had a better run LMH.

Go well tomorrow Chick. Wise decision about today.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • I thought it was just the one you had Gobi but obviously I don't know you that well so could have been wrong. Have you been back to the potential new club yet?

Hope the weather is ok for your races tomorrow guys.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

LMH - yes the issue is improving with miles, but still an issue if that makes sense est over 6m at present... will find out tomorrow how much of an issue it is....

Gobi - tough Question, at your current rate, then will be about the same time

    Good runs Ale and Dustin
