Hello, wasn't sure whether to post on a running forum or dog forum but I've had some good advice on here in the past so...
I run with my dog, a 2 year old Jug (Jack Russell x Pug) twice a week in addition to my usual runs on my own. I recently did a parkrun with him and he managed a very respectable 21:01. Problem is he will not run in front of me, only behind... it doesn't matter if i run at 10 min/mile or 6 min/mile, he wont do it!
While this isn't a problem for most runs it is difficult to gauge what speed/distance he is comfortable with particularly in one off cases like parkrun where I ran him faster than usual. Does anyone have any advice on how I can train him to run in front of me?
For info I use a lead that clips onto a running belt and a harness. This is different to the lead I use for walking and he recognises the difference and gets excited when he sees the running gear come out so I know he does enjoy the run!
Thanks in advance!

Ynnec, there is no chance of letting off the lead, he can be quite aggressive towards men for some reason so I just dont take the risk! he doesnt really get distracted by sniffing etc anyway he just stays behind!
redbikejohn, I like that idea of having 2 leads to get him used to being in front of me. I think I will try and talk someone from my club into giving me a hand with that!
