  • Cal, you said

See, this is why I'm single.

You are most welcome to join us poor men in the dog house

Ha ha, no, you wouldn't want me there, trust me.

Main event since my last post has been a weekend in Derbyshire with a bit of parkrun tourism thrown in. Completed the bakewell parkrun. If you're in that area and fancy a pb give it a go. A flat out and back along the monsel trail. 112 first timers so I was far from the only visitor.

Askern 10k tomorrow. A notoriously quick course and one of my favourite events of the year.

    Ytd: 399.2

David C...Thanks for your vote of confidence! Really hope that your two weeks of no running will help things settle down.
Hobie...That Ultra sounds like pure dedication (or something!!) Well done.
Senid M...Well done for achieving your GFA at Halstead. I can understand your lack of enthusiasm for London. I really enjoyed the two I did, about 12 years ago, but with so many alternatives I've no desire to 'run' with the crowds again.
JD1...Thanks. You're closing in on the 600'; well ahead of the challenge.
Donnie 2...All the best for tomorrow's 10k, and passing the 400' mark.

Out early this morning for an easy 12' coastal run. The E'ly wind knocked me back in the final miles, but happy to be running. Must start to work on some shorter distances and fit in some track sessions soon, and try to bring down my parkrun time.   YTD:734'.
  • Cal JonesCal Jones ✭✭✭
    Good luck, Donnie!
Nice running, MrM2. Do you find working on your shorter distances helps get your marathon time down?

A lovely early run today - had lots of energy right away and so did 8 miles with 6 at MP.

Morning all. As is usual, I am falling behind the pace. Hey ho.

5 on Friday and 4 last night.

    322 YTD
  • Morning all, it's hot and Ramadan is in full swing, so no drinking or eating in public allowed. Went to a park a few days ago, discreetly had my camelbak hand held and had a police escort for a few kilometers watching me, no one else around but it's a fineable offense!

    14.5 8.29
    15.5 3.6
    16.6 7.81

Blimey Dubai, police escort while you're running sounds like they haven't got enough to do with themselves...Fineable offence for a drink of water???? I wont get into debates about religion (each to their own) but all of them seem to have some very weird ideas.

First attempt at running since the Ultra & all seemed pretty much ok after I taped up the missing bit of foot.

7 miles with running club last night, stunning evening run along the riverside. 544 miles YTD

5 for me tonight, including some 400m intervals.

Cal...well done on the early run. My early is later than yours! In answer to your question about short runs...I like to work on shorter/faster runs together with track sessions, to help me move out of the 'steady plod' mode that you can fall into with marathon preps. I think the variety is healthy, and the benefits come through in marathons as well as the 5k/10k runs.
Hobie...glad to hear that all seems well, after your Ultra.
Dubai...sounds like 'too much fun' to me; running in that heat, and being careful not to get caught drinking water!

My planned track session didn't happen today; schools had taken over. So I worked on some 800s on grass, alternating fast/slow. 7' total.
    YTD: 741'.

Dubai - blimey, that sounds a bit overkill.

MrM2 - I suffer from early waking (I've always been a lark but it has got worse with age and menopause) so yesterday I was awake before 4am and went out at 5.15am (I always need about 90 minutes from waking until I'm ready to go out for my run). It's not always that early, though. Today I didn't wake until after 5 so I waited until the launderette opened to go out so I could pick up my service wash on the way back.

Anyway, 6 miles done. Felt decent so I seem to be coming right for Liverpool, fingers crossed.

Hanworth parkrun today - flat course but ground is lumpy in places. Nice and friendly, though.

Bournemouth parkrun for me, in 26:02, giving 72.79% AG. YTD:745'

6 crappy miles. Should have been 10 but had a bad night's sleep. Did 6. Probably should have rested instead.

Cal...The trials of 'taper'...have a good week; you've done all the good work, now arrive at Liverpool in good shape!

Mid-day outing, before the rain arrived. Enjoyed a steady but relaxed seafront run of 12'. Ran at my default/easy pace of 10min/miles; just bagging about 30 secs so that I didn't have to work too hard up the cliff slope in the final half mile. Arrived home in 2 hours, minus 2 secs..

Nice parkrun and AG,MrM2,you don't seem to slow down.Must be lovely running along the seafront in the summer.

JD1, great half time, well done.

MrM2, nice work on 12 miler, something lovely about running the coast...especially on a nice  day.

Recovery for me done I think, 7 miles on busy coast path.

550 miles YTD...back onto Man v Horse training (2 weeks to go I think)

  • Morning all,

Good to see some great running in the last week.

Senidm, What a great result at Halstead, a GFA by 40 mins is excellent!

Dubai, I tend to agree with the others, just doesn't seem right to be fined for drinking water, crazy in "my opinion"

Cal, I would agree with MrM2, I think a variety of training is the key, you need some shorter speed work, hill intervals etc to help with overall marathon fitness and it does tend to help break things up a bit, I definitely will need to do some on my return.

JD1, Excellent HM time, maybe one day I will get under 1.40, I am close but not there just yet.

As for me, I have just been in the gym and splashing around in the pool, so I haven't just been sitting on my backside :D
I did do a few hundred meters this morning, and all seemed okay, no limping and no pain, I will still wait until the end of the week though and will take things slow for the first few runs.
If everything is okay, I still plan to go along on the 8th June as I have a pass from the wife which means I can keep out of Harmander's increasingly crowded dog house. Hopefully this will let me just enjoy the event, even if I don't get that far - remember, there is always next year.

    YTD = Still 462.00
  • Amazing runs everyone,
I see some neck and neck competition - exciting stuff.
Since my last posting I have done the usual 10.48 milers and 10.19 parkrun sandwich (oh and the minor matter of Richmond Park Marathon Yesterday) my
    YTD = 1085.38 miles

Have applied for an extension on the doghouse.
  • Afternoon all, just want to make it clear, I wasn't fined, but you can be. Since I was in a very local area that tourists are never in it is what it is. I know the rules!

I'm out of the dog house Harmander, so a bit more room for you. Hobie you do some very interesting events. JD1, great time!

A few twice a day runs to report.

    19.5 4.72 and 3.59

Main event since last posting has been the Askern 10k. I love that run. Base is the miners welfare building in a forming mining village in South Yorkshire, its a place which has seen better days. The run sells its 600 places well in advance and its a meeting of the local running clubs and a few unattached runners. Good WE.. weather, quiet country lanes and a finish on the local cricket club. A wonderful wholesome community event. I came home in 46.30, might have been quicker, but don't we always say that. A little quicker than the same event last year which has to be a good thing.

Did the doncaster parkrun on Saturday, 22.40 always happy to be under 23.

    Ytd: 399.2 + 6.2 + 3.1 + 3.1 + 5 + 4 = 420.6

Donnie, sounds like a good run. My grandfather was a miner (my dad's side of the family are South Yorkshire folk - he grew up in Barnsley). One of my cousins lives in Doncaster although I've not seen her since my dad's funeral back in 2013.

Got out for a relatively pleasant 8 miler this morning. Achilles is still grumpy but it was a lot worse on Sunday. Hoping it'll calm down a bit before Sunday.

    YTD: 756
  • Well done Donnie, Cal hope the achilles behaves.

8.02 miles for me this morning, high humidity which I don't like so arrived home needing wrung out.

    YTD 794.19 miles - 800 tomorrow inshallah!

    Plenty happening here...
Dubai doing doubles and approaching 800'!
Harmander with two building projects and heading for 1100'!
Donnie2...good times for the 10k and parkrun.
JD1...congrats on your half. (Got close to 1:40 many years ago...)
DavidC...well done for holding back on the running and getting some time in at the gym and pool.
    Cal...All the best for Liverpool!
Hobie...Thanks. Probably 90% of my miles are along the coast, but decided that it was a good morning for a track session today.
Two miles each way to the track for a set of 400s (x16) with 200m recov's. (Averaged 1:58 for the laps and 1:30 for recoveries.) So, 10' today.

    Dubai...Well done on passing 800'.
Cal...Thanks. You're sounding impatient to get going! All the best.

Decided on a pre-breakfast run this morning; wanted to check out the legs after yesterday's session, and some other issues. Legs are working well, and marathon pace came without trying, for 4' of my 6' run. Ideal conditions.
    YTD:773'.

  • Thanks MrM2

Second run of the day 3.72 miles

    YTD 804.37 miles

  • A very pleasant 34 degrees and 8.55 miles done.
