Morning!

Lyrics: Now, the mist across the window hides the lines
But nothing hides the colour of the lights that shine

Well done, RFJ! And well done for volunteering, Emz! Cricket weather!

What: short run, longer fitness suite

Why: work, niggles. Mind you looking at the weather forecast again I won't feel like stepping out the door at all!

Back later!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

  • Morning.

It’s set to be wet all day here too Alehouse- a bit different to last year when we had a real flaming June.

Hope you didn’t get too cold emzap and that kitchen work is progressing swiftly and smoothly.

Are you going to be able to get to Hoy for the half OH?

Good to see you happy with your running RFJ. Did your mystery foot issue resolve itself?

My hip flexors obviously got a good work out yesterday but knee is definitely no worse. Today will no doubt involve some walking though as Mark is feeling it a bit not as much as yesterday. Not sure if any running will happen, mentally I’m ready to get back to it but with the inclement weather and lack of flat/tarmac routes it may not happen until I’m home. This is the longest voluntary break I’ve had from running for as long as I can remember but I don’t think it’s a bad thing especially if I am going for a third marathon this year.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning all
    RFJ - yippee, well done
LmH - I doubt the few extra days will do anything to harm your fitness, indeed it will probably be beneficial. Indeed yesterday's walking was probably more effort than some of your shorter runs
Ale - Yes, the weather is making the cricket a partial lottery at the moment, today should be good (if it goes ahead)
What - U11 coaching, a few ks for me
    Why - easy day
last rest - couple of weeks
    last hard - Tuesday
A double yesterday: 9km at lunchtime, legs surprisingly sprightly. Took the village group for some shorter hills on grass yesterday. It was torrential. Usually get 15-20, just 7 last night.
Don't think I know the lyric

    Morning

Great result RFJ - well done.

Chicksta - I found the LT workouts the easiest of the 3 in P&D (LT, Vo2 max and MP miles in long runs), but I was working with less mileage than you - maybe the reason.  I find LT as a pace easier to digest mentally in mara training as I know I won't be racing that close to that pace on race day, for HM it is scarier to think that I will be and for considerably longer.  Nice mileage you are getting in.

Nice long walk LMH.  I have some more hill races coming up next during the summer and am casting around for an autumn half.   Good attitude regarding the break from running.

Well done doing the marshalling in the rain emzap.  Nice pic of the ducks.

Brr to the 9 degrees OH.  Useful raffle prize that Radox.  Hope the travelling works out if you are going anywhere.

More rain Ale? Shouldn't be any drought issues for a while in the UK.  Hope the niggles and work don't plague you too much.

Have a nice easy day Dustin.

What: run up local hill planned (nice tower at the top to enjoy the view)
Why: next hill race in a couple of weeks and need to practice longer and steeper ascents
    Last rest: 9.06.

LMH I am sure it isn't a bad thing (says the streak runner) and like you say the terrain doesn't always help!

    Morning

What: walk to doctor and then walk to pub for quiz later
    Why: walking and errands
Last hard: warming up after yesterday. Got sent home before the end as organiser decided everyone knew the way on the 2nd lap (I was 100m from the finish).  Road home was flooded so a bit treacherous.
    Lyrics: don't think so

Well done rfj what a result :)
    Wabo enjoy spice girls!
WP glad you're feeling a bit better and nice to have comfy new shoes.
    Dustin good double.

Of course am wet again in doctor! Has to happen whilst we don't have a washing machine!  I think I've got soaked every day since last Tuesday (expect Sunday).

    Have a lovely day all

rfj wow great result, happy for you!
    Love the ducks emzap
LMH I hope your knee is less puffy
possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can
  • Oh dear emzap- doesn’t sound like fun. Hope you stay dry this evening.

I’m not a huge Spice Girls fan but could sing along to a lot of their hits Wabo I think it will be fun. Hope you have a lovely time.

Weather playing with you again Poppy! Good news on the shoes.

I think you’re probably right Dustin.

I’m surprised if I’m honest Hazel, I usually get very twitchy if I don’t run so I’m taking it as a sign that the break was needed.

    Still raining..........
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Afternoon!

Hazel: it was drizzling when I left for work at 7; it has drizzled or worse ever since. Hoping it will stop by the time I run in a couple of hours. On the positive side the temperature has now warmed up to 11 degrees!

    RFJ: Well done!

Em: Wow, that looks a bit miserable … at least no hose pipe bans this year :D

That's some serious walking, LMH. Sounds as though your knee is ok with walking and like the others said, a bit of a break will do no harm. I'm enjoying building the miles. Strangely my legs and body always feel great after consecutive MLRs and rubbish after a rest day. I just have no pace at the mo but that's normal in base training. As long as it's there on 29 September I'm fine ;)

Ale: My increase in mileage is not so significant,TBH. I tried to stick to 50pmw in half marathon training and I've just done 2  consecutive 60 mile weeks. This week may be a another 60, maybe 65.
Hope you managed a dry run.

    Nice double, Dustin.

Wabo: Have fun tonight. The Spice Girls were just a bit too girly for me to really like them. Jess Glynne is fab though plus she can sing :+1:

Hazel: Enjoy the hill. Are you good at downhill running? I'm debating whether I should book a workshop because I'm useless and I guess it would help me for 2 Oceans next year. I've also booked a couple of trail races this summer and it would be nice to do the course justice rather than treading on eggshells on the way down.

What: quick lunchtime blast on the TM
Why: overslept this morning - I have this deal with my body that if I don't wake up before the alarm I will stay in bed. Doesn't happen that often and if it does I take it as a warning that my body needs the extra zzz more than my brain does the miles ;)
Last hard: any attempt at pace at the mo
    Last rest: 25/5
    Lyrics: no
  • That sounds very sensible about the sleep chicksta. I love downhill running but it’s supposed to be worse for my knees than up 😕 I think the secret is to keep your eye a few steps ahead, relax, don’t try to brake and pick your feet up quickly.

Another good walking day here despite the rain and my waterproof trousers deciding not to be waterproof any more. 17 miles according to my Garmin.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Pool Swim this morning.
Builders arrived to put up scaffolding today so afternoon cutting down shrubbery in rain.
    Last hard - that was
    Last rest Tuesday
    Lyrics no

Forecast to improve by Sunday

All, thanks for the comments, much appriciated.

LMH - foot / nerve issue is still there, but getting better slowly. under neuro specialist and have a brain, back and spinal cord MRI in two weeks time (so will officially be called a brainless, spineless jellyfish :-) :-))

Ran the striders session tonight, strides and stretches

    Take care all

    Evening!

Started run in drizzle but finished in the dry. Around 35 gentle minutes plus fitness suite work.

Bob the Builder, OH? Downsizing?  Hope your weather, and everyone else's, does improve soon.

LMH: there is indeed a technique to running downhill! When I run with M74 he is slightly ahead on the uphill; on the flat I am ahead; on the downhill he is out of sight! When he does a hill session he works as hard on the downhill as the up. And yes, I think the downhill damages the knees more than the uphill. Serious walking again!
