Friday 5th July 2019 - When the train rolls by

Morning.

Lyrics - When the train rolls by

I'm gonna be ready this time

Is the weather forecast to improve for the marathon OH?

Another nice morning here though not as bright a start as yesterday. I'd like to make the most of it but I'm a little tired and MiL and I are planning some time working in the garden later (I use the term loosely, I think I shall mostly be watching her transplant runner beans once I've transported them from hers to ours) so I'd best keep a little something in reserve. As ever I shall see how I feel once I get going.

What:           easy miles, probably short
Why:            see above
Last hard:    getting the balance right with MiL
Last rest:     14/6

Yesterday's lyrics - Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning

What: 500 m swam this morning, scan at lunch and a few walks interspersed
Why: trying to keep sane, baby monitoring, walking apparently lowers blood sugar spikes after meals
Last hard: getting my head around this new challenge
    Lyrics: nope

Lmh pottering in the garden sounds nice. Hope you're message yesterday got across.
    Wabo enjoy!
WP faster! That's great. How's the hay fever?
Dustin you're mad (please eat some cake for me :) )

Swimming felt good. Was out of breath and had to rest every 2 lengths, but I can swim as before so made me feel a bit more normal.

Kitchen is going to go on for at least another week. New challenge, no cook/prep diabetic friendly meals! I'm not making things easy for myself!

    Have a great day all

    Morning!

Yes, weather looks more promising for you on Sunday, OH! Hope the forecast is correct!

    Sounds great concert, Wabo!

What: just over 40 mins d&d

Why: felt like it, which was a surprise as I thought the legs may not play ball after last night's quicker stuff.

    Lyrics: no

Glad swim went well, Emz! I'm sure you will feel better for it! Now for Pakistan/Bangladesh!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

  • I'm glad you were able to swim and feel better for it emzap. Salad should fit the bill for the no prep/diabetic friendly meals shouldn't it? My dinner of choice in the current weather.

Sounds like another packed weekend Wabo.

Hope it isn't too muggy for your intervals Dustin.

    Sounds positive Alehouse.

Hope the forecast is correct then OH.

    Taper going well then Poppy.

I don't like gardening in the slightest and have been Mijacked (hijacked by MiL) again this morning as she's now invited herself for lunch. I have decided to try to take the view that she much enjoy my company...............

Oh dear, LMH … as long as it fits in with your plans, OK. But you need to put yourself first every now and again or else MiL will take over completely ...

Glad the hayfever is under control, poppy. I usually don't suffer but very strangely came back from today's run with a super runny nose and red eyes. Weird. I ran in the parkrun park. Wondering if there's some strange plant in there that I don't get along with.

Em: Glad you can do some swimming and walking. Finding food suitable for someone who's pregnant and diabetic without access to a kitchen sounds quite a challenge.

Please keep the heat, Dustin. I don't want it back :)

    Enjoy the concert, wabo.

    What: 16.25 miles
Why: I wanted a weekend without a long run looming so decided to get up early and cram this in before work
Last hard: getting up and convincing myself to go out. Once I was out I loved it. 15 degrees, breezy and a slight drizzle. Brilliant!
    Last non-running day: 30/6
    Lyrics: yes
  • A grey wet commute

  • It's still better than mine OH!

What do you have planned for the weekend then chicksta? MiL's plans didn't really fit with mine but on the other hand I wasn't doing anything I couldn't do at a different time.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

You're a good DiL, LMH. It's my best friend's birthday tomorrow and I'm helping her with party preparations. The party as such may lead to a hangover on Sunday :)  I'm such a lightweight. It's just so nice to have the long slog out of the way and be able to have a proper lie in. Couldn't do a 22 miler on a school day but this is recovery week and only called for 16 which was just about doable in the available time.

I looked a bit similar here this morning, OH. Sky is a lighter shade of grey now and it has stopped raining.

    Hot here today.

Scan shows baby is big so lots of extra monitoring needed. Midwife who was giving me dietary advice was rather on the large side (I reckon at least 20 stone) so was a rather interesting experience (do you drink sugary drinks? No, do you eat white bread and pasta? No etc).  Anyway, back on Tuesday for diabetes specialists.

Chick well done getting your long run out of the way.
    Oh that's pretty grey.
Lmh we've had a lot of salad, I just like a bit of variety as well.  Am also allergic to a lot of raw things which is a bit of a pain.  Have now got a fridge full of cottage cheese, salad, avos and hummus. At least they're good to snack on!
  • Good luck with the lie in chicksta - I just can't do it, up at the same time regardless unfortunately. Enjoy the party.

I do find it difficult when very overweight nurses give dietary advice emzap. lots of variations with salad - we had chickpea and cashew last night, I'm planning a hot potato and smoked mackerel one for next week and fried halloumi for tomorrow.

    Evening.

Those salads sound good LMH, good thing I've finished eating or my tum would be a rumbling.  How about some therapeutic weeding? Could be much more satisfying than the beans.

Good the hayfever is better today WP. Seems the legs didn't mind the 5am run if you were faster than yesterday.

    Busy weekend Wabo - enjoy!

Hope the track session went well Dustin.

Good luck for Sunday OH!  A grey boat commute does look more interesting than a motorway traffic jam that many suffer from though.

Well done on the swimming emzap. Hope the kitchen is done asap.

    Nice the legs co-operated Ale.

Good long run Chicksta, hope the preparations go well and enjoy what leads up to the hangover if not the hangover itself.

    What: 5 miles recovery d&d at 8pm.
Why: no point picking up the pace until the legs feel like it. Should be ok at the weekend. Late due to 30 degrres again.
Last hard: getting the legs to work again
    Last rest: 01.07

    Lyrics: no
