Last year was the first that GFA didn't guarantee you a place but as far as I'm aware everyone who applied got in, this year is the first it's been over subscribed so the Boston style qualifier applied.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
Isn't this the first time that the previous year's GFA entrants couldn't get a place by deferring so they would have had to reapply this year? That may have increased the overall GFA entries enough to affect the qualifying times, I know a lot of GFA runners that used to defer.
you can still defer but you must still have a valid gfa qualifying time so you cant defer on year 2 of a gfa unless you refresh it, so therefore you can no longer squeeze 3 years from a time.
Just ran the Florence Marathon in 3:12:50 easily giving me GFA London 2021 55-60. The course was diverted to avoid a gas leak on the day, making it exactly 600m short!! is that game over or do I still have a chance, I seem to remember when the Manchester Marathon course was declared short one year they did a % calculation and allowed them to run in London GFA if it made the required time.

That's really tough nicko - you had a decent buffer. There's going to be quite a few disappointed people tonight.
Hopefully, you're OK for Boston.
There are plenty of other uk options, Brighton, Manchester, Edinburgh.
