Friday 1st November 2019 - Racin' through my brain And I just can't contain

Racin' through my brain
And I just can't contain

What: hoping another run but not sure when I'll fit it in
Why: coffee morning, dad coming and baking to do, plus fireworks this evening
Last hard: see above!

Chamolk I'm not against the tradition of Halloween, it's the banging intimidatingly on doorways at 9 pm (I was in bed) and making me worry about the trick part that I don't like.  Plus the fact that people travel here from up to 10 miles away to do it...

Have a lovely day all

  • Morning.

    Yesterday's lyrics - Monster Mash

emzap - I'm the same with Halloween, it's another tradition that's been hijacked and commercialised here. Hope you can make the time for your run. Maybe you can leave Lucas with granddad whilst you go:-)

Safe journey OH. Hope you have a good race.

Warmer but wet here this morning but I'd like to get out for a few miles regardless as tomorrow will be so inactive. I also like to start the month as I mean to go on:-)

    What:              short and easy
    Why:               I want to
    Last hard:       this year
    Last rest:        26/10

    Lyrics - no.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning!

Lyrics: racing through my brain without success

Hazel: my Tomtom strap broke at the watch end, and not for the first time. Tomtom had already replaced two, free of charge, and my son had the same problem with his. Great watch though and am still tempted to get another.

What: fitness suite plus short run

Why: watch first half of Wale/NZ at home, second half in the fs. Hopefully the rain will have gone by the end of the match for my run.

    November's figures: just 55.56k run.

Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

    Morning again

Heating has just packed in. Pros: maybe I can go for my run as my oh will wfh. Cons: we have a 7 week old and no heating!

    Morning all,
I can't stand halloween either. I put a brave face on it when the girls were little.
Its quite good locally, in our small estate those that 'play' usually put a lantern or pumpkin outside, those that have no signs of halloween are left alone.
I went training, wife and kids went to the pub so I don't know if we had callers....
I wonder how much waste fabrics and plastics were worn once and dumped...

Thanks for support re the eye appointment. It was a glorified optician scan in the end, so was in and out in 30 minutes. I have a retinal scan or something later this month. So no answers but I guess being checked is worthwhile.

What - lunchtime run, aiming for a slightly longer one (7-10 maybe)
Why - Leeds and back in a day tomorrow, so fitting miles in.
    Last rest - 13 days
Last hard - yesterday I guess. Got to the track early and managed 4.5 miles with 12x100 fast (stride out on the straights, jog the bends). Today's top tip, don't do the session when (a) the sub 2 800 boys are also doing strides and (b) when a sub 21 200m runner is doing 150 repeats. It makes you realise how slow your 100s really are....
Oh and good news - daughter #2 has been offered a place at Manchester Uni.
That solves the what marathon in 2021 conundrum!

    Morning all
Dustin so no answers yet, have a good lunch time run.  Great news re daughter 2
LMH thinking about it if I was faster then I guess I could do more miles, I am so slow these days and hour run only sees me do between 5 and 6 miles.
I agree  with emzap and lmh its exactly why I hated halloween when my two were young, bigger kids I didn't know knocking on my door and the worry of what a trick might be, I just don't like it!
Emzap oh no thats not good re heating!!
alehouse hope the weather acts correctly for you!
LMH enjoy the short and easy

Another terrible night sleep means that I will squeeze maybe 3 miles in later and early start tomorrow will mean only a  mile
    what: 3 ish
    why: see above
    last hard: yesterday
    last rest: 31/12/16
Hopefully fit in 6 miles or a bit more sunday
    have a good weekend all
possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can
  • Ah, I see, that's all fair enough. In our estate, it's just done on Halloween night, usually just younger children, and there's no threat of anything nasty being done. Kids only go to the houses that have decorations at the front door (kind of an unwritten symbol that its ok to call there). My boys had a great night, though I despair somewhat at the rubbish they'll eat for the next few days.

My run yesterday was pretty rotten, cut it short at 2.5 miles. Just didn't feel great, not helped by the fact I thought I was going really slow, but it turned out that my GPS was all over the place.

What - rest, trying to get a place in next year's Dublin marathon. Maybe a wee walk with the boys later
    Lyrics no

Oh no emzap, that's miserable. They should treat it as an emergency if there's a baby in the house though - our insurance fixed our leaking shower as an emergency last year as we had 3 young children.

OH - wondered if you were a gp after your references to surgeries - don't think too many other professions split their day up that way

Hope the eye is ok Dustin
  • Got my spot booked for Dublin, so now I've got

    Paris April 2020
    Dublin Oct 2020
London April 2021 (once I defer my entry)

Managed my 25 min run walk and oh has managed to temporarily fix the heating. Phew.

Dustin well done to your daughter and fingers crossed about the eye results.

Chamolk yes but of the 5 plumbers we called none had availability! One did give my oh ideas of how to fix it though and one seems to have worked.
  • I'm glad you managed to get your run in and that the heating is sorted if only temporarily emzap.

Do you not have to go through the lottery for Dublin chamolk?

Great news for your daughter Dustin. Definitely worth getting anything eye related checked out properly.

Hope you found a dry bit for your run Alehouse. I did.

That's true Wabo, definitely easier to fit x number of miles in at 8 min/mile than 10 min/mile but as long as you enjoy what you're doing none of the rest matters.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • LMH yeah they announced a lottery system a few days ago, but due to so many complaints online, they then also added a guaranteed entry for anyone who has run it in the last 3 years. Those emails came out today, so I got mine booked. Lottery opens sometime soon for everyone else I think. Lots of moaning online no matter what they do.
  • So true chamolk - it's a bit like when London changes something but the bottom line as far as I'm concerned is 'their game, their rules'.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • I used to think runners were generally fairly decent types, used to hard work, accepting that problems happened, fairly considerate to other runners.
Then I saw the online running community on the London and Dublin marathon social media pages over the last year or so, and I realised that as a group we're just as obnoxious as anyone else. But maybe a bit fitter than average
  • Afternoon,

Well October was my worst month this year
    15 rest days!!
    78.26 miles
    1DNS

Lets hope November i get back to normal.

Chamolk: I read they were giving entry to past three years racers which is good to ease the transition to ballot.Sadly a victim of the success of the race but glad you got entry for next year.

    What: 5.76miles
Why; Because I could/ stopping at village for banana's
    Last hard October
    Lyrics:Nope

i found a window in the wet rain when it went to drizzle/soft rain but just happy to be running.
    ALF: Always a little further
    Miles makes smiles.
    Progression
  • I don't think we're all the same chamolk.

I hope that November is better for you Poppy.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • The problem is that the obnoxious ones raise their voice. The nice ones just keep their mouth shut and carry on.

Safe travels tomorrow, LMH. I have Florida envy but I don't envy you the long flight :)

Glad the heating is sorted, em

Dustin: Excellent news re. daugther's uni offer :+1:  Nice session amongst those wannabe Usain Bolts ;)

My October is also pants: 115 miles including 1 hilly half

This is what I'm up to on Sunday :)

    Looking forward to it :)

What: lunchtime session at the gym, including a bit of TM running to warm up
Why: technically a rest day but I have an optional strength session in there and I had time on my hands
Last hard: getting rid of those permanently sore legs - I hope they adapt soon
    Last rest: Sunday
    Lyrics: no
  • It has to be endured chicksta - I have my iPod, a book and a picnic. What is causing your legs to be sore?
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Evening!

Looks like a nice flat 10k that you have chosen there, Chick!

    Travel well, LMH!

Glad the heating is sorted, at least for now, Emz

Stayed dry  for my run...until white van man drove as close to the pavement as he could through a deep puddle, soaking me in the process. Anyone here drive a vehicle with the registration MJ56YJN? Unfortunately it is probably a waste of time reporting it.

Still debating about a new watch. Have still got my trusty 310 so could perhaps wait until the Black Friday deals.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • I'd report it Alehouse - the police do tend to take that kind of thing a bit more seriously these days.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Safely in Killin. Register shortly then dinner with Orkney lot (one of whom arrived back in Glasgow from Perth WA this morning, and without her bags  :'( )
  • Do you have an early start tomorrow OH? I hope you have a good race.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • The strength work, LMH. I did in a week what I used to do in a month. Legs not happy but they will get there.

    Good luck, OH.

Grrr, ale. Agree with LMH. Reckless drivers ought to be reported.
  • Ah - maybe don't add the optional sessions until your legs have settled down?
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Did you get an Ashby place, LMH? Only just realised that they were open...and closed.

Go well tomorrow, OH. Nice and steady!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Mark, P and I all managed to get places in the half hour or so they were available Alehouse. I'm not sure what they are doing this year as it said no waiting list and no transfers but you can return your entry (forfeiting £5) until a couple of weeks before the race.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • Glad you all got places, LMH! Becoming very popular!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Evening.

    Busy today - that's nice.

Travel well tomorrow LMH.  Hope your bags arrive better than OH's friend's.

Good luck for your race OH.

Busy day emzap.  Amazing Lucas is 7 weeks already.  Hope the temporary fix of the heating holds out until you get help from outside.

Ale TomTom isn't making the watches anymore unfortunately.   Might be some around still though to buy.  I like them as not too many fancy features.  I had the original Runner which I broke dropping it on a tile floor (wrecked the screen) and now the Runner Cardio + Music  I think - I don't use the music function.  Bastard driver for soaking you.

Chamolk your interpretation of Halloween sounds much better.  No visits here yesterday - I will have to eat the treats myself.  (helped by my OH).  I like the idea of the decorations code.  Nice mara plans.

Great news regarding your daughter Dustin.  Watching those fast runners must have been impressive.  I did have qualms about doing my pre-HM strides under the eyes of the Ethiopians but they didn't giggle - someone wearing a back start block number did - don't care.

Hope you get some better sleep soon Wabo.

Good to see you out WP.  Hope you have a much better November illness wise

That looks fun Chicksta - enjoy!

October miles: 154 - down by around 50 compared to the last months but due to holidays and HM.  1 race with PB.

What: 8 and a half miles along the river Aare - a stretch I haven't done before involving public transport but that went smoothly.  Also joined in breakfast telegym for a laugh - could do that more often.
Why: day off - public holiday in Southern Germany (where I am employed)
    Last rest: 30.10.

    Lyrics: no
  • Yes, I saw that TomTom no longer make watches, Hazel. I had Cardio2 with music, which I never used; son used the music but nothing else! Sounds a decent bus run today!

No parkrun tomorrow; will be watching the rugby. Think the parkruns will be quieter than usual tomorrow.
