My partner is doing a tri in May and we would like advice on the best way to fuel during training. Gels, isotonic drinks etc ?. What do people recommend? Are there any books that I can get that would help. Thanks in advance. X
Training is the time to find out what works for you. To save having to carry a load of stuff with you on the bike it's a good idea to find out what brand is provided at feed stations and try those during training to make sure they don't cause stomach issues.
For me, a gel or iso drink every 20-25mins on the bike with regular sips of water to cleanse palate. Then perhaps one gel just before the end of bike or shortly after the start of the run.
We're all different though. Some people prefer 'real' food to gels so use flapjack, savoury snacks (nuts/pretzels/twiglets), jelly babies, wine gums etc.
