I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand

What: hopefully Pilates and a walk
Why: need to do some classes I'm paying for
Last hard: progressive run yesterday

Have a good day all

  • Morning.

Anti-runner press Hazel? Jacket was more for the rain than warmth but you are right, I prefer to be warm.

I usually feel better for getting out emzap but doing so can be difficult. It's usually the worry about how many people I'm going to meet and how good they'll be about distancing that causes me stress. Is it Lucas keeping you up? Lack of sleep makes everything seem worse.

    What:           an easy run
Why:            want to see if the knees will tolerate two days in a row
    Last hard:    staying sane
    Last rest:     17/4

    Lyrics - no.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning!

    Lyrics: no

Yesterday's were Carole King, You got a friend.

    What: short run, stretches

Why: trying not to increase the weekly volume by too much

    Hope your knees cope, LMH!

How is Lucas doing, Emz? Is he crawling yet?

Not a good night's sleep here: just before bedtime discovered that one of my friends had been hit by a lorry whilst out riding near his home in Sydney. He died at the scene, I understand. He used to be a decent runner (14:36 5k, 2:2x marathon) and I used to share a house with him in the early eighties. We kept in touch and exchanged emails only a few days ago. He was 71 but still teaching and couldn't wait for schools and colleges to re-open. Tragic.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

Oh Ale how awful and what a shock.  Hope you're ok.

Lucas did sleep last night, first good night since I've been back at work (though not all the way through, I miss those days!).  He's not crawling though he is very proficient at getting to all corners of the room he shouldn't by rolling around...

Hope your knees cope with the 2 days in a row LMH.  Are you getting out to walk Sammy or is Mark doing that?
  • That must have been a shock Alehouse. Sorry for your loss.

Good to hear that you managed a better night's sleep emzap.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning all
Yesterday was better. Outdoors run and I dropped brownies off to both my kids families. See them all at a distance, not strictly in the guidelines because it meant I went out twice but for the sake of mine and their mental health I take that chance.
Emzap hugs to you. Times are tough xx
Oh wow I wish I could find some instrument to play on the doorstep! Amazing
    Keep keeping on everyone
    What 4 miles ish soon
Why highest miles since this started this week
    Last hard Friday
    Last rest 31/12/16
    Keep smiling indeed alehouse! 👍🏼👍🏼

Tragic indeed, ale. Really sorry for your loss.

You do sound a bit perkier today, em. Hopefully things brighten up for you.

Hazel: Also intrigued by anti running press.

How did running two days in a row feel, LMH?

Nice miles, wabo. I think some of the restrictions go too far. If it were similar here I'd probably take chances too. As long as we stick to safe distancing what's the problem?

Bright and breezy here. To breezy for the garden but I managed a little over 5 miles earlier. Slow against the wind and a lot quicker with the wind from behind :)

    40 miles for the week.
  • Sorry to hear about your friend AH

What: a bit more woodwork, eChurch.
    Gardening and run this afternoon.
    Why: being productive during lockdown
    Lots of hards
Last rest: a good sleep last night
    Lyrics: no

Yesterday, I decided to run as far as I could up the hill within 40 minutes then turn. (Govt advice in Scotland is that exercise should be from home and no longer than an hour).
Managed most of the way up, turned at 36m30s wasn't too far over the hour getting back (longer route down)
Great weather here just now ...
  • Oh shit, sorry Ale.

Like the idea of the rolly-pollying emzap. Having to pay for things certainly motivates me to do them.

Hope the knees were co-operative LMH.

Wouldn't worry about the 2 outings Wabo. One was your exercice, the other delivering supplies to someone. Glad you are feeling better. Maybe try learning an instrument some time?

Good mileage chicksta.  I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the wind today then.

Maybe I read too much into that article. It was again about runners and cyclists apparently being a danger to others as they spread whole clouds of virus particles as they pant and puff their way along. It was in particular the rather sensationalist style (+no mention of sources to back up "theories") and the fact it was in the main headlines again that pissed me off.  There might have been a couple of people looking at /simulating scenarios but the rules are as they are (i.e. running is not forbidden, standard distancing). Too many walkers make it difficult enough as it is to keep your distance at the 2m, I am not going to jump into the road or ploughed fields to do 10m+.   As for puffing and panting, on occasion maybe but it certainly doesn't feature all the time in my running and I pick my spots for such.

What:  earlyish 15 miles meeting few people fortunately
    Why: this week's long run
Last hard: overcoming running social anxiety (again)
Last relieved: not having to cook lunch post-run, takeaway from village pub-restaurant. Hope it survives the crisis as it is the last one
    Last rest: 30.03.

    Lyrics: no.
  • Hazel - I often find myself not wanting to go out and run because I'm worried about who I'll meet. Most of today's run was fine but there were groups of cyclists (who definitely did not look as though they all lived together) that seemed to feel that as long as they maintained distance from each other by riding two abreast on the road they were following the guidelines - obviously the fact that this meant that I couldn't possibly keep my distance from both of them didn't occur to them............I rarely puff and pant on runs (being lazy) and can't say that I see many cyclists working that hard! I hope you enjoyed your lunch.

Wabo - you are allowed out more than once, there is no law against it, looking after your mental health is as important as looking after your physical health. The guidelines say it must be 'reasonable' and I definitely think that seeing your family at a safe distance is reasonable. Glad to hear that you're feeling a little brighter.

You sound as though you are keeping very busy OH! I wish I could sleep well.

chicksta - much harder than I'd have liked at the start! Haven't run two days in a row since 27th March. Hard to believe the miles I used to do and I'm not at all sure I'll get back to where I was but as long as I can enjoy my running I'll take that over not being able to run. Breezy here today too. That's a good week's mileage.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Afternoon All
Ale - gutted to hear about your friend, really sorry for your loss, hope you're not too shaken up.
Re shopping, flour is scarce here too (although the brewery do deliver plain if we want some...)
LmH - decent work getting the bike out!
    Hazel - decent miles
Wabo - you sound a bit perkier which is good to hear
Hazel - been a few articles about runners v walkers v cyclists
I read one about the distance for runners should be greater (sweat spray) and more so for cyclists. I've seen whole gangs of riders, and unless they live on a commune, probably don't share the same address.
Walkers (including those with dogs) are everywhere at the moment. I'm pretty sure we won't see whole families of 5 or 6 taking pooch out in a few months time.
I tend to pick lesser used paths for running. Avoid all this nonsense.

    What - 3 mile walk
Why - ribs still causing an issue
last rest - not run since Wednesday, walked the past 3 days
last hard - take a guess....

Enjoy the rest of the weekend

    Hi all

I had MS specialist ring me this week to confirm my latest scan results, MS is active and progressing.... however they cannot get me on the medication plan till COVID-19 is clear. But they are going to prep me ready as need to have some more tests including extra bloods and chest xray so that when the lockdown is lifted they can get me on to the DMTs (Disease Modifying Treatment).

Running going well till today - got flattened by a dog off the lead on a path (few choice word with the owner not being responsible)... not happy, hoping no major damage, but knee is a bit mashed swollen and bruised.... will see how it is overnight.... 27.5m for the week which is high for me....

    Hope all are well

    Take care
