Might join in on some of your sessions Skinny, but not at they paces.

Rich had entered to do Manchester marathon.

7mls today easy pace which was 9.50m/m, hopefully can get some faster some stuff in commencing June as currently building on base miles april/may.

Week 1 32.7 miles incl 6m at HMP, 13m LSR

Hi Mace (and Kevin) - I've just realised that week 1 contains a pretty crucial typo - it should read 6m at MP which is more bearable - particularly if I use the MP from 2012 of 7:30 (still sounds like a fairly fierce pace for a training run these days but if I could race a hilly 11.7 in about 7s in March then should be doable.

Managed my 8 home in El Scorchio last night - was a bit of a trudge last few miles but still surviving - 4,1.5,8,1.5 - only a couple of little runs and then 12 on Sunday to reach cutback week.

    6MP may be?

I think you have maybe failed to read the post above the one you have just written?

And would be a tough finish never mind a tough start!

Oops, I didn't get round to running yesterday and now it's really windy, so sod that. Lucky there are no races to train for! In other news, we have run out of strawberries but I'm also concerned that the 24 apples I bought are clearly not enough for two people over a whole week, representing fewer than 2 apples per person per day.
  • SkinnyPart2SkinnyPart2 ✭✭✭
It's a problem when you don't eat the devil's fruit - one of those nicely sandwiched between a couple of apples and that's plenty of fruit for one day.

Hmmm the weather - I'm planning my first lunchtime run from work and back to work - just 3 miles but as you say it's a bit windy. I'm on a 20 day running sequence though and tomorrow looks equally windy so think I will be able to steel myself to go for it.

Online poker for me tonight with friends so waking up with a bad head almost guaranteed.

50mph gusts here already. Feeling a bit smug about my rest day today. Everyone in my house except me has a high temp and feeling pretty awful 😷 Pretty sure it's not the virus that's been in the news a bit recently, but keeping an eye on it.

3.5 miles done - got a bit lost in the woods.

Hope the Clark family are all virus free - you can get tested now?

Wife and mini Clark have been referred for testing tomorrow morning. I was due to start a new job on Monday. Not looking likely now. I'm convinced it's not covid, as there have been near zero local cases and we've not been anywhere! Can't be too careful though I suppose.

Well if they haven't got it must have a good chance of catching it in the Covid Test queue! ;-)

i should log a full 13m this week so all being well should push 20 next week.

Went out Wednesday for 5 x 6 mins off 1 min. Best ive felt in ages. Today was a continuous block of 15 minutes.

Stiffened up a bit towards end but ive not helped myself last 2 days as work been busy so been sat a lot and not  had time to stay on top of exercises.

    Sunday is 4 x 1 mile off 1 minute.
  • Well done on getting the runs in Skinny and Mace. Hope all is well Rich. Did you humble brag that you can afford a Prem. League quality physio back there DT ?  :)

I had a nice 6.5m (45 mins) hilly run in the wind at lunch.

Lots of positives - no knee pain, foot only mildly sore on a moderate effort that brought me in under 7 min/mile. I think that makes 23 miles since Monday and aiming for 40+ by the end of the week. v02max is now at 63 from a low of 58 on the return to training a month ago.

I'm doing a comedy night with friends (and beer) tonight. Tomorrow will be 400s and hill sprints - again all about the form and stride and not about pulverising myself, especially after the beer.

11 miles this morning in the pissing rain  :(
  • Rich Clark2Rich Clark2 ✭✭✭
Thanks Kevin, I'm sure it's just precaution.

11 miles in the rain is still 11 miles, probably counts a bit more. I'm sure all those cold dark wet and windy winter runs are making running much more pleasurable now.

  • SkinnyPart2SkinnyPart2 ✭✭✭
11.5 miles in drizzle and wind for me - 32 for week - cut back next week.

How many miles are you doing a week Kevin?
  • Rich Clark2Rich Clark2 ✭✭✭
Hot and hilly 14 today. Tested out some new gels for taste, and surprisingly the High5 devils fruit flavour is a hit. 41 for the week and still in one piece which is more than can be said for my trainers which have pretty much exploded after 250 miles. Slightly disappointing.
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭
what make are they, Rich? I know asics and nike are very good with stuff like that.

Hood hoing, Skinny. It's smazing the problem seems to have just vanished.

4 x 1m for me off 1 min. A reasonably big step  up. Glute and lower back area did stiffen a bit but fine again now snd rest day tomorrow.

  • macemace ✭✭✭
    Good work folks

My week turned into a cut back with 17M from 3 runs, 3-9-5. The 5 on Thursday, like the 3 and 9, didn’t feel great so no run since but I willl go out tomorrow and hopefully be full of beans

  • kevin70kevin70 ✭✭✭
Skinny, i have managed to average just over 40 miles per week over the last 3 weeks. Looking for low 30's this week.

Good mileage Rich not so good with the trainers, i go through quite a few pairs of trainers as my right foot rolls out causing the heel to wear out but not as quickly as yours.

On trainers does anyone use racers outwith races, looking to by pair within budget so Nike vaporfly will have to wait.

    Progress again DT  :)
  • Rich Clark2Rich Clark2 ✭✭✭
Reebok, they were by far the best everyday trainer I've had. But then the upper gave up. To be honest I got them in a sale for €45 so they didn't owe me anything. New pair of Saucony on the way.
  • Well done all, I just scraped over 40 miles for the week, 17 miles over the weekend in two runs was a bit too much, and I was struggling a fair bit at the end of my long run (9.75m). Next week will try a double day or two to bump mileage.
  • macemace ✭✭✭
I know that feeling muddy, 10M today was a bit tough towards the end but I did have a few decent climbs in the last 2M

Not pulling up any trees but I reckon I could be one of the fastest fatties at parkrun when it starts again
  • SkinnyPart2SkinnyPart2 ✭✭✭
By time parkrun starts again you might not even be fat.

10m is a good effort though Mace - what's the goal for this week - last week's 28?

I'm just aiming for 20 miles this week in the search for rediscovering some bounciness in my legs - last few runs have been a bit heavy legged.

PS DT - unfortunately the problem hasn't vanished just diminished to the point where it is allowing me to run - the sharp shooting pain has become an occasional event that goes away rather than stays with me. I don't know when or if that will change and I've developed a few coping strategies that seem to help me get moving again when it happens.
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭
Skinny, ok, still it's  allowing a decent amount.

This is the physio I'm lining up for after my MRI and injection. Lewis hasxworked with him and says he's a genius.

Might be worth another shot for you? He does zoom consultations.

  • SkinnyPart2SkinnyPart2 ✭✭✭
Thanks DT - he sounds great but I'm exhausted with Physios from a long way away - remember I've trailed down to Man City's training facility 3 times - so whilst I can run I'll just keeping plodding on best I can - Northampton is a long way from Carlisle.

I can see from the soft porn (which I greatly enjoyed) on his home page that he really likes getting his hands on a patient to get a diagnosis so I'm not sure zoom would work but something I'll consider if I get stuck again.

    Cheers

On a different note it's my birthday on Sunday and if I'm going to start doing the plan from page 1 I need to get a garmin - has anyone got a cheap end model they can recommend.

I want distance, speed and pace and fast satellite finding.

    I don't want:-
    HRM
    Blue Tooth
    Cycling or swimming options

It seems that the Forerunner 15 is what I'm after but Amazon only seems to be selling refurbished as new models and I'd rather have a new one. Perhaps they've been superseded in which case which is the current base end model?

  • alehousealehouse ✭✭✭
DT: just popping in! I know of people who have been treated by Mark Buckingham...and they rate him highly. Unfortunately as Skinny notes, he is too far away, otherwise I may well have used him.

And on a different note, you seem to be progressing well, Skinny; I guess the niggles are at least under control. Remember, progressive consistent consistency is the key. Gentle increases, which you seem to be doing. Nothing to rush for at present!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • DT19DT19 ✭✭✭
Skinny, I'd say as alternative the 35 model.

Alehouse, thanks, he seens impressive. im hoping by the time i get to see him I'll be able to see him in person. Northampton isn't much over an hour away so close enough. Meanwhile i cantinue to slowly increase what i can do, which still incredibly is improving my fitness.
