Thursday 30th July 2020 - Haven't seen you since high school

Morning.

Lyrics - Haven't seen you since high school

Good to see you're still beautiful

Frustrating OH but some nice positives. I do hope that your dates coincide next time - and that your procedures actually happen as scheduled and are successful.

Nice pre-work running Hazel. I can't see races getting back to anywhere near normal until next autumn really, this small wave start, no water stations, no gathering afterwards stuff isn't racing to me. Cases seem to be rising just about everywhere again :-(

The Metacam seems to be effective for Lola which is good, short walks only for another few days and hope that she's sound at the end of it.

I did a short (thirty minute) run yesterday afternoon. Felt very strange, left leg in particular just doesn't feel stable and trustworthy. I found I was concentrating very hard on how and where I placed my foot. I think it's mostly the ankle which is still slightly swollen though the knee doesn't feel 100% either. Some additional swelling in both ankle and knee post run but it has gone back down to previous levels this morning. If things loosen off when I walk this morning I will probably try another run, if not I may be desperate enough to resort to the bike.

What:            hopefully an easy run
Why:             I'd like to get back to it
Last hard:     recovering from my fall
Last rest:      28/7

Yesterday's lyrics - All By Myself by Celine Dion.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning
LMH - Pleased to hear that the meds seem to be working for Lola.
Be careful if you do run, still sounds like there is a bit of repair work going on, so resisting the urge to run for a couple of days would be the sensible idea.
I know only too well that us runners rarely do "sensible"...
Ale - did you go your LSR?
OH/Els - annoying news I imagine but a longer list of positives than egatives is a good thing, right?
    Good set Hazel!

What - probably some short strides/200s
Why - turn the legs over
    last rest - 20/06
    last hard - Tuesday
Yesterday was an odd run. Legs felt jaded all day after Tuesday's double hills, so set off for an easy 10k plod round the woods. Slowish first mile, but legs felt better than they have done for months going through the trees. Last couple of miles back are on decent track and then road, and seemed to be cruising along comfortably at around 8min miling....
    I'll probably blow up today!
lyric - not sure I do

  • That sounds like an enjoyable run yesterday Dustin. Unfortunately you are right, I'm not walking as well this morning as I was yesterday so obviously running would be stupid. Unfortunately Lola is on such short walks that it's not enough for me to see if things improve as I go or get worse so I shall probably set out for another walk and then maybe resort to the bike :-(
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Morning!

    Lyrics: no

Hope the legs are as good today as they were yesterday, Dustin

And hope you manage a run, LMH, but as Dustin says, sensible head please!

What: easy run, stretches, gardening at daughter's

Why: did 81 minutes yesterday so sensible head; physio said to up the glute work; daughter away in the Lake District. I note that Hazel's MLR is longer than my LSR!

Currently raining but due to warm up later.

Brief visit to The Oak last night to meet two friends that I haven't spoken to since before lockdown.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

    morning all
been awol, no real reason! Just life stuff
LMH sorry to hear your aches are stopping you, hope you bounce back soon.  Glad Lola doing well.
Alehouse, nice to visit a pub and mates I bet! Your lsr sounds good, and it would be an LSR for me too!
Dustin that sounds like a great run, it's the trees I tell you!
Hope everyone else is ok, I will try catch up.

What: freedom run round local park run course with a couple of others at 10
why: they do this every week
last hard: last night small group run in forest
    last rest: 31/12/16

I am now finding it more and more difficult to run alone since being able to meet others.  So far this week I ran with a friend monday, oh tuesday and group last night! OH got badly stung by a wasp (we guess) on tuesday and his leg has ballooned, but it is on the way down now.  He has had a bad streak of luck recently bless him.
Anyway, off shopping (groan) to take Cleo to get birthday clothes - 9 next week!! Masks at the ready....

OH so sorry to hear about your op.

Good to see you, Wabo! Can't imagine clothes shopping at the moment...or that Cleo is nearly 9!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Didn't think I'd be starting today with no restrictions. Possibly run this morning and swim this afternoon.
A few jobs and activities in house and garden had been planned over next couple of weeks.
Should be thinking about starting up Monday evening run again although I'm not really up to anyone's speed of running just now.
Also have volunteered to compile this week's eChurch.
Looking forward to friends arriving on Monday evening.
Still overcast and cool this morning although weather forecast to pick up from tomorrow.
Lyrics no idea (some things are unchanged! LOL)

OH: I like it that the pros by far outweight the cons. Keeping my fingers crossed that your pain stays on the bearable side. Enjoy your run and swim.

Wabo: Oh dear, clothes shopping would seriously freak me out I think. Hope the shops are empty. I bought a few things online but with so much time in my home office and not socialising it seems like a moot point to invest in new clothes :)  Different for kids of course, especially as the outgrow their clothes so quickly.

Wow, Dustin, that sounds like a wonderful run. Wish I was ever cruising at 8mm ...

    Don't get hurt gardening, ale

LMH: Sorry to hear you are still struggling. But at least Lola seems on the mend, so one less thing to worry about.

Hazel:  Great pre-work run there. Agree with LMH on the future of events and why they don't appeal right now. Funny we should talk about this as I browsed the website of that trail race I did last year in August excpecting to find it cancelled but no. It's on. And they start runners in alphabetical order, one by one. My surname starts with an "S", so I'd be very far at the back! TBH, with such a faff I'd rather run on my own, especially as there's no food and drinks either and no showers at the finish.

I finally plulcked up some courage again and went to the gym for an hour on the elliptical and 30 mins of weights. Oh my, but I have no cv fitness left. My heart rate was sky high! Quite amazing how quickly that vanishes. I only hope it comes back equally fast ;)

Just back from a pleasant outing on the river banks and surrounding area. 49 mins.
And well done Wabo! Always easier with others, I find.

Well done in the gym, Chick. Be patient!

    Afternoon

Good news regarding Lola LMH.  Agree with the others regarding the sensible head.

Nice you were able to meet your friends Ale.  River running sounds very relaxing and could offer some (for me) welcome shade?

Hopefully no blowing up today Dustin. Nice run yesterday.  Surprising sometimes how the body works that you set out with tired legs and then everything clicks.

Ouch for your OH Wabo.  Hope you survive the shopping and well done on the freedom park run with company.

You do sound positive OH despite the cancelled op.  Plenty to keep you occupied.  Fingers crossed the stone lets you get on with it all.

CV fitness will come back Chicksta.  I would be behind you as my surname starts with T..

The race I'm doing on Saturday is a tester if I want to race under such circumstances (a few races are available).  What is missing is the prize giving ceremony (unlikely to be participating in that anyway) and showers on-site (hence the planned dip in the lake)  Other elements of a standard hill race are available - drinks, baggage transport to the top etc.   It isn't a big event with an expo etc. anyway.

What: recovery between reading my mails and a telco about exciting things involving SAP.
Why: heat acclimatisation / mini race taper
    Last hard: sleeping
    Last rest:  30.03.

The "lane" at the end of my road, then Poplar Avenue which leads down to the river and is the start of my nearest parkrun. But I turn left through the woods before heading down to the river, so yes, Hazel, shade can be found, but rarely needed.

  • Glad you're ok Wabo - hope the same can be said after the shopping trip.

It will come back quickly chicksta. Consistent low intensity work will get you there.

I could definitely manage without the ceremony and showers too Hazel.

Hope you can make the most of and enjoy the unexpected freedom OH.

Unfortunately my knees were worse on my long walk to the extent that I decided that riding the bike probably wasn't going to do them and the ankle any good so I have painted the front garden fence as you do. Physio tomorrow as she thinks she can help me.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

Hmm nice pics Ale. Especially that muddy puddle. Haven't seen one for a while. So did you tip-toe around it or straight through the middle? :p

Painting = cross training LMH. Hope your visit to the physio helps tomorrow.
  • alehousealehouse ✭✭✭
Straight through the middle of course, Hazel. Taken Monday. The height of summer.

Painting does indeed equal cross training.

  • Recognise location of those photos 😀
Run up the hill (6.3 miles), swim around the wreck, put a painting in a frame and learnt to use the (Windows 10 included) video editing software for eChurch.
    "Moonlit figures"
    Another learning curve!
  • Looks a wee bit damp Ale.
Even our usually muddy inganess trail dry today or at least you could step over the mud!
Hazel sounds like a fun race.
    LMH hope soon better.
Chick tbh he really could do with getting procedure done...at least half days are sore ones! However we were feeling bad about not being able to see/offer hospitality to our v old friend who had arranged to come up next week and couldn't change his holiday plans.
For me a walk with friend picking blackcurrants with her and making jam. Afternoon hitched a lift to Inganess with Peter who was swimming there and ran home on the trails...lovely day for it but running still harder going than normal.
Meant to be a nice day tomorrow too!
