Friday 31st July 2020 - Nobody on the road

Morning.

Lyrics - Nobody on the road
             Nobody on the beach

You've had some time off when you weren't able to do much at all Els, it's going to take a little while but you're doing really well.

Sounds like a productive day OH.

Summer here today if the forecast is to be believed. I shall melt at physio. Really hoping she can get me back on the road quickly. I don't like missing this lovely weather.

Yesterday's lyrics - Bruises by Train.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

    Ale - nice pics.
Scorcher here already, all doors and windows open so....
    What - midday saunter
    Why - mad dogs
    last rest - 20/06
    last hard - Tuesday
7 steady last night, still quite muggy at 5pm so didn't go too mad pace wise.

    Maybe looking for puffins

    Morning all
Hot day coming and not the day to be blown out by mate for early run!! Never mind new plan made..
lmh glad you have the physio and she can help, sounds positive.   Nicec workon the painting!
Oh and els what busy days you have painting framing, fruit picking swimming running walking! All sounds great.  Looking for puffins sounds lovely too
dustin enjoy your mad dogs saunter!!
alehouse, what lovely running courses you have
hazel and chick re surname I am a W and always near the back (pace and name wise lol)
How I was after shopping and driving - worn out last night.  The mask was a factor, the driving on crazy A10 and A406 another factor.  The thinking I am the strongest woman on earth and picking up lyla to get her in a trolley plus carrying a buggy upstairs has left me with severe left wrist pain.  Just like my mum I forget my age. Oh well it will pass.

What: 5 miles mapped out later to finish at OH's sisters
why: mate dropped out and its sis's  b day
    last hard: yesterday
    last rest: 31/12/16
possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can

    Morning!

    Lyrics: no

Summer today: a one day wonder probably! And first day of lockdown around here. Wonder how many people will take notice.

A year ago today it was son's wedding. Seems longer than a year probably because this year seems a long one!

    Hope physio is helpful, LMH!

You are doing well, Els! And you and OH sound busy!

    And super Wabo!

    What: just under 7k d&d with M75

Why: he wanted to run before it warmed up. And it is warm already (23) but I certainly am not complaining!

July's figures:  no races, no parkruns (I won't be the only one with those stats!), 31 days run, 214.26k in total. (133 miles or so). A couple of kms down on June. Should I go out again later?
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

Great pics yesterday, ale. How many ks down on June? Any chance to beat June's figures ;)  just kidding. Seems a bit pointless, especially as July has an extra day.

Envious of your IT skills, OH

Hope your physio can sort you, LMH

Els: yum to blackberry jam. I need to check my spots and see if I can find some too.

Ouch wabo. Hope you didn't strain your wrist too badly. Sounds quite stressful to me ...

Scorcher here as well and more to come tomorrow.

    Another longish gym session bagged.

Physio yesterday made me do a lot of one-legged stuff on wobbly surfaces. I quite enjoyed that. It won't be detrimental to my running either, so classic win-win :)
  • Your blackberries are early Els - I had a look on my walk this morning and we have the few odd ripe ones but they are mostly still green.

Alehouse - I hope the new restrictions won't affect you much? It certainly does feel like a very long year.

Dusting - enjoy your run in the sun.

Are you running to a party Wabo? Careful with the rehydration if so :-)

Me too chicksta. Typical that we have lovely weather for me and I can't even do good long walks.

Hope the puffins are playing and you can swim OH.

Unfortunately Lola is really lame again this morning despite her meds. I foresee another trip to the vet next week and x-rays :-( Hoping for better news from my physio. It's not usually a good sign when walking makes my niggles feel worse rather than loosening things off and that was the case again this morning.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

Chick: I am down 1.74k compared with June!

Yes, lockdown will affect me, LMH. The last two Fridays I have ventured out to meet a friend for a couple of pints. New regulations mean that is not permitted tonight.
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.
  • Blackcurrants folks...blackberries don't do well here...not warm enough late Aug Sept for them. I have a big bush in garden...problem is what to do with them all. Thinking blackcurrant compote next.
I've been doing as much as I can since leaving hospital and even there got a few walks outside for good? behaviour but hey ho probably seems v little to you guys!
Hope Lola and LMH improve soon.
V hot day forecast 19c....well it probably is but winds of 30 to 40 mph make it feel cooler!
Walk round scapa made soup flapjacks granola and scones coming up. Hoping to get out west to find a puffin or two and have a wee walk before they all fly off to sea. Also H last day here so would be good to do something.
    Have a nice day all.
Lyrics no idea as almost always!
  • Ps regards today's lyrics nobody on the beach but me when I went down. The roads however are busier again!
  • WaboWabo ✭✭✭
alehouse my miles will be a tiny bit over June but best for a July, and almost the same as yours for July
I'll be running  in full heat at about 5
    good physio stuff chick

forgot to say that I know today's lyrics

OMG, if 19 degrees is hot I don't want to think what defines cold for you guys, els :)
Sorry I caused berry confusion :)

Hm ... that's only a little over a mile, ale. But running just to hit some random figure seems a bit daft...

Sorry to hear that about Lola, LMH. That's a bit worrying.

I wonder how long it will take over here for new restrictions ... today the foreign office issued a new travel warning for certein regions in Spain. Now that will affect quite a few returning from their holidays.

  • Els - I don't think there's anyone on here who cares what mileage anyone else does. Whatever you can or want to do is what's right for you. I think you are doing amazingly well. Ah - blackcurrants make more sense, very rare to get them so nice to have a bush that produces so well. If you want to make more jam I'll take a jar or two :-)

Sorry to hear that you are going to have to forgo your socialising Alehouse. I am beginning to wonder if we're going to end up with another generalised lock down if things continue as they are.

    Are cases rising there chicksta?

Not great news from my physio. Apparently there is still quite a lot of swelling in my left ankle and knee, I’ve probably strained the ligament in my ankle and bruised the bone in my knee and in my right hip and that whilst running as it is shouldn’t do any damage it will delay healing. She thinks I should only run as far as I can walk without it hurting which basically isn’t at all at the minute because I’m protecting the left leg and overloading the right hip. She also said that I should limit my walking to speed recovery though I could still walk six  miles but it would be better to do that as two three mile walks with recovery in between. Biking is ok – but as you know I don’t enjoy that really. It may be a case of needs must if the weather is ok though. I really thought it was just a few bruises and scrapes and I was being a bit of a wuss about it :-(
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

HI everyone.  Sorry I've been AWOL, time has run away from me a bit this week.  Combination of busy at work and Lucas not sleeping (though better the past 2 nights).

Did run on Wednesday, and walked yesterday and today.

LMH that's rubbish.  Speedy healing vibes to you both
Ale was thinking of you when they announced lockdown.  Are people sticking to it or is it being ignored?  Can you still run with friends, or is it just house visits that are disallowed?
Els sounds yummy! Your 19C is hot made me laugh :)
    Dustin mad indeed!
Wabo be careful!  I've hurt my wrist crawling around the floor chasing Lucas!
Hazel did I miss your race, or is it this weekend?

    Have a lovely Friday all.

    Afternoon

What would I do for 19 degrees? Hmmm. Currently 34 plus and still rising.

Like the painting OH. I should take some inspiration from you and do more different things to keep my mind occupied.

Hmm blackberry talk - less keen on blackcurrants. Have a lovely last day with H Els, any puffins spotted? How to put it and I guess it is easy for me to say as I can keep churning out the running miles but I try to concentrate on my own progress and stay away from comparisons with others. Certainly I don't look at other's mileage and think bahh that's so little.

Hope you didn't fry too much Dustin.

Ouch Wabo. Are you left or right handed, hopefully the latter.  Good run planning to see the birthday girl, less so with the heat maybe.

Didn't realize you have regional lockdowns now Ale. I wouldn't bother about those couple of km.

Hope the physio helps LMH. Poor Lola.

Better not to venture abroad for sure at the moment Chicksta the restrictions changes may well catch quite a few out.

July stats: 372.5 k, ran every day. 7k more than June.

What: 7.98k (ups) gentle including 6 x strides
    Why: race tomorrow
Last hard: justifying doing said race. The heat is one thing, if this heatwave had already been forecasted I wouldn't have signed up. The rising number of virus cases here are causing a lot of debate about further restrictions and I am asking myself if I should have a bad conscience about taking part in an event.
    Last rest: 30.03

    Lyrics: no

    Afternoon!

No, Chick,  not tempted to do the extra couple of k! Cross trained in daughter's garden instead! (Weeding)

Sorry to hear that, LMH: hope things heal quickly.

Els: 33.5 degrees this afternoon in sunny South Manchester! Has clouded over now of course!

Emz: don't know about lockdown and who will be following it. A couple of my Muslim friends are not happy as their Eid-ul-Adha celebrations are cancelled, as are all wedding receptions. Both with almost no notice.

The local cricket club is having a barbeque tonight and it is still on as they trust families to stay away from one another...

Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

lmh oh thats not good news for you and what a worry with Lola.  hugs to you both xx
I am right handed thankfully, tbh both wrists ache bizarrely but left more so. I did 6 press ups yesterday lol
Alehouse that is a shame about further lockdown though inevitable maybe?  Wonder when it will hit here?
Getting ready to jog with water very slowly to oh's sister. May trim the run to shorter as it is so  hot.  Just no fun!
possunt quia posse videntur - we can because we know we can
  • Hazel - 34C here too - but for one day only unfortunately. If doing the race is going to give more stress than pleasure write it off.

So if I'm reading it correctly Alehouse you could meet your friend in a beer garden or both turn up at the pub at the same time but not sit at the same table?

Glad you've had a couple of better nights emzap.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
  • HazelnutCHHazelnutCH ✭✭✭
Ups diverse x-posts as I took too long writing that. Poking one fingered at a touchscreen is so much slower than a keyboard.

That's a lot of damage for a fall like that LMH. Bone bruises and strained ligaments hurt for sure. Take it easy.

Race is tomorrow Emz. Smiling at the thought of crawling races..

Ouch that is almost as hot as here Ale and a big jump from recent temps or no? Makes it harder to deal with. Difficult for people who had made plans following the initial lifting of restrictions.  In my pessimistic moments (there are many) 2020 seems very long and I don't see 2021 being better.
  • 19 is a v warm day here...but it is too windy! R is complaining about the heat in Zurich though Hazel. Hope your race isn't too tough!
The puffins were all hiding from the wind or left...don't know which but we did find primula scotica so happy about that.
Not such good news LMH hope will soon settle with judicious rest.
As for the jam think needs more practise may have overcooked it and v firm set. Raspberries picked this morning too.

Sorry if came across as grumpy I'm v grateful for what I can do now....could have been left with serious stroke or worse...but not dwelling on that!
Look forward to hearing about this race hazel.

  • Only a few mm big and quite hard to find!
  • That's beautiful Els. You didn't come across as grumpy at all - more as though you didn't feel that you belonged and you very much do.

I thought I was being wussy Hazel but it would seem not. It's a week today - fed up already but not much I can do about it.
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.
