I am running the Balmoral Tartan 10k again this year - superb event. I am also thinking about running in a kilt as suggested. Trouble is I want to run a competitive time. How much does a kilt slow you down? Should I try training in it a little (in my house on a treadmill!). Any other skills required?

(That means wearing running shorts underneath - if it's a windy day you don't want to be revealing your tackle!)
Maybe vaseline on your bare legs where you think the kilt may rub.
As for wearing shorts under it...
Nah, do it properly. Just be careful at the sprint finish

I think the English equivalent would be running in Evening dress (full DJ etc).
As pointed out it will be heavy. Do you have aspirations of a quick time? If so I'd go with Cougie for the racing version.

If you do decide to take a sporran, use a day one (leather, no metal or fur), and wear it to the side on the hip.
