Well I'm glad Google found this thread for me. I thought I was going bonkers not being able to work out how to post a new thread. This information ought to be on one of the sign-up emails that is received. I understand why it done, but it's terrribly frustrating as a beginner when what you've signed up to do is to write a new thread. After-all to make it that a beginner has to comment on a thread, when they've not introduced themselves to a forum or to assume that a beginner is confident/knowledgeable enough to contribute to an existing thread when they are not familiar with the standing of those who may have started it, does seem a bit OTT and not altogether presenting of a helpful friendly forum.
It's just told me I have posted 5 times in 60 seconds and now a 120s block is in effect due to posting spam. No-one likes posting spam, but everyone else on this thread seems to have done so to get around the 10 posts rule, it feels so wrong that a rule designed to stop spambots seems to encourage it. This def. does not feel like a welcoming place to post - I don't think I'm going to bother further
Just spent 20 minutes trying to find out how to post a new thread. Good stuff, its 2021 not 2010. Might be time to remove this needless feature. At the very least tell users theyre not able to post new threads! Here it goes, the first of a few pointless posts in order to start a new thread.
Haha - Im having to do exactly the same thing. Admins: Disable this functionality. It takes just a minute to do. Its a massive own goal because youre forcing new users to post pointless comments.
Wow, Ive just received yet another email from these forums saying Ive been "promoted to Level 2". What is this? Why fill up *my* inbox with pointless emails!?
Admins: Heres an idea, make this thread sticky so newbies can see it. Or at least tell users that they have to spam the forum 10 times before they can create a post. Also, Ive received 4 emails from this forum and I havnt even been able to create a thread! In 2021 I expect 1 email - to confirm my email address. No more.
Thank god I found this thread, I thought I was going mad looking for the 'start new thread' button. I've been lurking on the site for a while but never needed to ask anything before so never created a profile. But now I do..... :s How frustrating!
