TR - good to see your niggle easing.
OO - nice run variety there.
Wardi - sounds like a cutback week was a good idea.

I've had a lower mileage but higher intensity week. Wednesday's run with Jr included 8 x 1min on/1min off (road). I averaged 5:16. Thirsday off, Friday was 15 with 12 steady (mp+ ~10%), and Saturday was 10m with a tempo parkrun, 10 x ~10s hillsprints, and 4m on the end inside MP+60s.
A 4m jog a while ago to loosen up after a weekend of building new stud walls for a home gym gave me 55m from 6 singles.
Jr ran well to make the county team for the inter counties despite feeling leggy so a good weekend all around chez TT.

Wardi - Getting rid of the travel testing is welcome!
    TR - Solid 20m.
TT - That's a decent post-race week especially with the quality sessions added.  Congratulations to junior.

17m yesterday @ 7.30 mm, around 15 secs per mile faster than last weeks long run, primarily as running with 3 clubmates who were running not as long, so there were a few 6.45's in there, which were not really wanted. Finished off with a slow slog up the hill to home, a 9.58 miles for the 400 ft or so climb.  67m for the week and no rib pain.

  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
TT.. that's good mileage on singles, congrats to your lad too.

OO.. must be a relief that the rib pain is withering away.  Nice long run yesterday.
Re. travel, yes I'm hoping my trip to Barca in April will be a relatively easy passage.

My first pair of NB Fuel Cell TC have gone to the shoe recycling bin as the uppers are starting to tear in 3 places.  I got about 10 months of regular use out of them.  Unboxed my new pair and got out for 10k this morning, cold but dry.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
TT - decent week, well done to young TT. Nice.

Wardi - how many miles did you get out of those?

Managed to cause a tight spot in my bacll my stretching etc which ruined my planned mlr home last night, but i did the 10m minimum to get home. Had a real "WTFP with running lately" moment last night, but i managed to èase it out and did a much better 10m back in this morning.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
TR.. not sure really, I would guess 700-900m as I wore them regularly from March to this Jan.  The new pair I wore yesterday definitely had more spring so I reckon the old ones were wearing out anyway.  Good recovery and miles this morning.

10.5m today, cold & raw but dry - needed 2 pairs of gloves at times.

Wardi - Looks like you got good use out of those.
TR - WTFP, c'mon TR thats not like you - we all know the answer, its for the acclaim and the glamour, nothing more attractive than a sweaty, smelly, limping. bloodied, mouth-frothing runner to my mind, at the end of a marathon. Saying that you do seem to be running in a degree of pain, and that's not good.

2X double days,  yesterday 5m with the pooch, then a 10k in 39.53. Today 3m with the pooch pre-work, 5.5m easy lunchtime and possibly another 5m later.  Reasonably happy with the 10k time, and the plan now is to nibble away at this time in the next 8/9 weeks of training leading to the Manchester mara.

  • JoolskaJoolska ✭✭✭
My court hearing this week is old-skool in person, which is interfering with internet usage (we've finished early today so back at my desk :)).  Rest on Monday then 5 yesterday and 5 today.  It's a lot milder here, so only single merino gloves needed.
  • TR - seems you're having a few pesky niggles but still managing to get out there which is good.
Wardi - 10 months of use is good going. Fingers crossed for barca. Definitely looks more promising at the moment.
OO - Sounds good that you had no rib pain and could crack on with a big week. Some nice quicker miles there won't do any harm long term.
TT - Congratulation to Jr. I represented my county in my teens but remember very little of it. I've since searched out of curiosity for the results but haven't managed to find them. Oh well. Hope he enjoys (and remembers) the run out.

The injury is stubborn and really not improving. Hoping a video call with an online GP tomorrow might lead to a referral or some thoughts about reducing pain short term, and obviously getting back to running longer term.

Heading back from London as I write this. Stayed at Tower Hotel this week, which I believe is where the athletes in the marathon have stayed in the past or at least done some photo ops. In need of modernisation.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Joe.. best of luck with the GP conflab tomorrow, hope you get some encouraging news.

OO.. you're getting some good miles & pace done, hope the Manchester build up continues well for you.

Jools.. after yesterday's raw coldness it was much milder here today, I actually took my gloves off for a while!

'I don't believe it' Part 5.  Text from Jet 2 today, they have cancelled my early April Barca flights from Leeds so unless I go to Manchester the trip is off.  I chose it for ease of passage so in the end I asked for a refund which they accepted.  I hadn't entered the race yet so no monies lost.  So ATM I seem to be training for nothing in particular. :/  2022 race lists will now be browsed to get a bit of focus back.
13.6m today, nice conditions this morning ahead of a windy afternoon.  Very quiet & peaceful down the Sustrans cycle track.
  • Good to hear from you Joe, sending positive vibes.
Wardi - Good miles for you and glad you had decent conditions to run in.  Thats a real bugger with Jet2 - but could Manchester, I mean its marathon be an option, April 3?
Jools - re:  gloves, normally I get too hot when running in gloves, but found a solution, 1 glove on, 1 glove off.  Works every time.

Treble for today as finished off with a lovely 6m @ 5pm when just enough light, got back at 5.50 just when dusk had settled.  So thats an unlikely 14.5 for the day.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Wardi - thats decent miles then. I got over 800 on my fly flyknits, i retired them after vlm. Got another unused pair to open sometime........plenty of uk options for spring.

OO - sharp 10k that........frustration at my body not letting me do what id like to do.

Joe - you need to go see a more run friendly physio? Some things wont heal with just rest and stretches.

12m home tonight, hopefuly im on the upward curve.
  • Hi guys ..... thought I would pop in after 5 yrs to say hello. Last marathon was 2017, feels a long time ago. Great to see some names of old still running well :) Just need to catch-up on about 45,000 posts.

Life took some unexpected turns for me (some tough ones and some better ones) .... haven't run seriously for years, mainly injuries...started cycling instead (can spend a lot of money quickly). In the last couple of weeks have started to do a few runs again and finally pain free, it is hard to beat! I hope life is treating you all well and there are some people of the thread that have that sub-3 goal. Best wishes to you all
  • JoolskaJoolska ✭✭✭
Hi, Coro.  Lovely to see you back here again!  I'm now a fun runner, after a fairly fruitless 4 years trying to get back to decent level of fitness (that should save you at least 2,000 of the posts...)

No running for me this morning as I overslept.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Good to see you Coro, no more lunch time 10m blasts!

10m inc 12x3min today, which was a surprise that the body was willing. Hope to crack on a bit now.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Great to see you dropping in Coro, sounds like you've had your fair share of niggles and life getting in the way.  Good news that you are running again.

OO.. I'm not sure I will be able to fit in the required training for a spring marathon (a lot of work being done with the house).
ATM I was thinking of a half for Spring and a full for autumn.  I reserve the right to change my mind though 😌
I did look at the Valencia marathon but the current entry price is 128 euros, blimey!

A breezy but sunny 5m this morning.  That was going to be it but Mrs Wardi wanted a run this evening so chaperone duties added another 4m.
  • JoolskaJoolska ✭✭✭
7 miles this morning in very thick fog.  Running over the Clifton Suspension Bridge you couldn't see the far side, nor the river below.  It really was a feet in the clouds moment - quite discombobulating!
  • Wardi - crap news on barca. sorry to hear that. I too looked at valencia as the longer term target if I can get back running but baulked at the price. not quite as bad as the US marathons but looks like you need to get in early (earlier than 10 months before it it seems) to get a reasonable entry fee.
Joolska - it's a lovely run around there. I'm in Bristol for a Stag Do late Feb. I may at least try to squeeze in a brisk walk down the river. Nice you don't have to worry about oversleeping from a running perspective.
TR - good to see the body handling some quicker stuff.
OO - trebling? blimey. Marathon talk podcast had its last episode last week. They spoke to Dave Bedford and he seemed to trial running 3/4/5 times a day way back when. But then again he was running some 200 mile weeks.

Good news of sorts. Spoke to GP yday and got a referral to see a knee specialist next week. private medical and online GPs are a real godsend. I should have started this process much earlier but fingers crossed we can identify the causes.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
Joe.. I thought Valencia doubling the price from the early bird 60 euros was a bit cheeky.  By way of a comparison Barca goes from 65 to 89 euros.  Good news on your knee referral, hope it proves fruitful.

Jools.. sounds very picturesque, too breezy for mist here.

The sun was out this morning so got 5.3m done.  I might well go to Parkrun tomorrow though the forecast is for 20+mph winds.  Not great on a very exposed course!

It was super icey and frosty here jools

Wardi - hope the parkrun goes well.

Joe - hopefully you'll get some better news.

6m easy here, legs were a bit heavy after ydays efforts and with a long run plnned for tomorrow.  Will have a few frothies in preparation later.
  • Hello thread!

Great to see Coro popping in. Hopefully life has settled down a little and you can get back at it. My mate recently spent £4k on a bike! Yikes.

Joe - hope the referral next week yields some positive info and even better - a plan of action.

TR - a model of consistency as ever. I especially like your dedication to those 12x3 min sessions. They are so good for getting that faster volume in. I really used to enjoy those kind of sessions I have to say. You seem to be managing the body well too considering the miles you bank. Enjoy those beers later.

Wardi - annoying re travel disruption forcin Barca to be a non starter. Your home fixture in York not appealing to you?

CC2 - nice one on finally getting the missing piece to the matching kitchen. Living the dream. I think I recall another podium at XC recently from you too? You're going very well indeed.

Jools - sounds like you have a nice balance atm. Running with no pressure might be exactly what you need at this moment in time. The run along the suspension bridge sounded epic with the clouds and fog.

OO - going along nicely too with that 10k time to improve on as fitness is gained.I assume ribs have sorted themselves out now? I save  the trebles for the dart board

TT - solid week's work including the diy for the home gym. Props to Jnr on county selection. Must be great having your own training partner. My lad prefers to lift weights and jump on the treadie. On the occasions we have run together it's been enjoyable but he's not committed to it.

My absence from the thread recently has coincided with a slightly improved situation regarding my ankle. Some green shoots over Christmas meant I started back gently jogging.

Started off with some easy 20 min jogs on the treadie a couple of times a week which was ok. Then introduced on outside run of slightly longer at the weekend which is now up to 60 mins.

Still running 3 times a week as it's only been 4 weeks. Have stopped the indoor cycling as it was aggravating my back too much. It must be the bike setup I guess. Thanks TR for session suggestions btw.

I have my  mri scan on tuesday so hopefully some definitive info back from that soon. I'd say it feels better but I can still feel the impingement. It feels a lot like my laces are too tight across the top of my ankle. However, plodding along at 8-9min/mile seems ok. Of course I have tested it a little :smile:and whilst it didn't stop me in my tracks, it did feel sore the next day for the loading I applied.  So, fingers crossed, an improving situation at this end albeit tempered with caution as I don't think I could run fast on it, relatively speaking.

SJ - good to see you, great to see some progress, hope it continues. Probably need to adjust saddle height etc on the bike. Hope the scan helps with the path back.

Targetted a long run including effort today, seeing as things have improved a bit in the last week.
5.5m out (which gets me to the flatter lanes), 10m effort, 5.5m back. As it was the first session like this since September, id done 3min reps Thurs and  it was a wimdy day, i tergetted +10% rather than mp, but got rolling a bit after a few miles and ended up 10m av 6.59, but the effort and HR were both more mp than +10%, ive done av 6.40 at similar HR before. So probably lost a bit of fitness since vlm and im also blaming the wind......the 5.5m home was as horrific as it ever is.......10 weeks to go, onwards and upwards.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
SJ.. encouraging progress and good to see you again.  Fingers crossed for the MRI scan.
I have considered York for an autumn marathon (cheap day out!). A few of my clubmates are doing Chester though I do like my overseas adventures. 🙂

TR.. kudos due for getting that done, great long run.  I can only assume the winds were as severe as we had up North.

6m Inc the Parkrun today.  When I was woken by the winds whistling around the house at 4am I nearly sacked it but another awakening at 7am dragged me out of bed.  45mph gusts on part of the course were most entertaining.
8m club run tomorrow with a few miles added on.

  • JoolskaJoolska ✭✭✭
That's encouraging, SJ.  Fingers crossed you can continue with your plodding, and get some clearer info from the MRI.

Wardi: 45mph gusts don't sound very entertaining to me!  I did a short cycle ride to and from the shops and the cross-winds were a little too exciting for my tastes...

11 miles this morning.  A lovely morning for it; bit of frost, bright blue skies, and a bit of a breeze but nothing like yesterday.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Wardi - we never had any of those strong winds that were bringing trees down.

Nice jools, top running weather today (no doubt cos it was turbo day for me).

5m wu, 20x2m30s/30s, 5min wd on the turbo. Managed to meet the commitment of turbo sunday through January, got some running fixtures the next couple of sundays though.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
TR.. nice work on the Turbo.  Yes quite vicious winds here yesterday - our heftily built 6ft bird table ended up half way into our neighbour's garden/ :o

Jools.. our Parkrun is very open & exposed to strong winds but as a result there is next to no chance of being struck by anything.  One 500m section of the course was straight into the teeth of the gale and it was quite a challenge to prevent coming to a standstill.  BTW that sounds like a nice run, this morning was the best part of the day here too.

Just over 11m here too.  This included our club 8m race which I ran at tempo pace with a clubmate (av 7:37).  Very clear & sunny so nice views to be had on the country lanes.  62m for the week.

Joe - That is good news, hopefully you will have a clear diagnosis of the problem and then can kick on from that.
SJ - Great to hear your news on your comeback and back to 60 minutes running is fantastic.
Coro - Good to see you pop-in.  If I remember London-based, worked on satellites and a 2.30 or thereabouts marathoner.  Be good to see your return to running.
TR - Good to see you too bounce-back strongly with some strong runs over the past few days and that looks a really strong 20m.
Joolska - Sounds a lovely run.
Wardi - Some good numbers there and sounds you had a good day out on the roads too.  Yes, Valencia is very pricey now, which has not stopped 5 of our clubs runners going.  But since I've/ we've been no great desire to run it again though it is a very good and fast marathon and very attractive city.

An unplanned 27m, 10m before my sons rugby game, and another 10m after was the plan, but just felt really good and kept on until I had to turn at 8.5m and kept the same pace (7.50's) on the way back, to make it my first and probably only training marathon. Feel OK.  Its done wonders for my weekly total 86m for the week which is my highest weekly total for 15 or so years and really too high considering a few weeks ago I hadn't run for 3 weeks, so a cut-back week is on the cards.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
    You're ticking over well Wardi

10m run comuute in this morning.
  • WardiWardi ✭✭✭
OO.. a fine long run even if it was a bit 'on the hoof'.  Fab weekly total too!

Nice commuting run TR, I guess that needs quite an early start?

Easier day of 5.2m, done on the treadie as a parcel delivery was due.
  • TRTR ✭✭✭
Wardi - i dont run too early. I take the doggy out first and aim to be running by 7. I only do 10m max in the morning nowadays.

    12m tonight.
