Should add that road bikes are infinitely more fun to ride, go faster and are a lot easier to carry up and down steps when you live in a second floor apartment.
Lizzy B I have a question. We're about to buy our first home and won't be able to afford somewhere with a garage. Do you store your bike in your 2nd floor flat? Is it convenient (apart from carrying it up three flights of stairs?
Banana Boy - we have three road bikes in the dining room, not really a problem, carrying them downstairs is fine as well, but the final flight of steps is stone, a bit of a 'mare in cleats, I sometimes wait until I'm outside before putting my shoes on.
OK, ta for the views so, and take it I'm outnumbered here.
Is it really that much more fun to be riding on roads with CARS/LORRIES/COACHES or through beautiful wooded trails with jumps and trees and the only traffic be horses, dogs, and cows (and RAMBLERS, grrr)?
Sadly, the only advantage I see with roadie's at the mo is the girls having a pref for lycra. Lizzy, your view about sexier bikes is taken on board but I think the new Spesh full-susser's are drop down gorgeous (no competition there).
[Thinking about GI Buney in Lycra and purple helmet]
You go girl!
GaryT, you run in the stuff, well 'er a few of us run round Richmond Park and we often lack motivation on the second lap. You are VERY welcome to join us.

Sexier bikes, sexier clothes, sexier men*.
I rest my case
*I can get away with this cos hubby is a road bike person
I'm with LizzyB! Not in the biblical sense of course, though I could be persuaded!
Men in colourful lycra on those tight muscular bodies, [shudder]is just so sexy!

I've got a mountain bike but the back wheel was nicked while I was swimming.
Some good points, but "road bikes are infinitely more fun to ride" .....only on the road though, and there's no dirt, jumps, trees on the road.
Keep them coming.
<<Will'll be in soon, I 'spec. He's definitely bi.>>>
Have to agree with you Jj I think WW swings both ways.
sorry, got carried away there.
Mr Fraggle has road and mtb - and wears tight lycra for both....lucky me ;-)
[Stands up suddenly and shouts]
Bring it on Rhino!

and an offroader that ive never warmed to because its so slow and heavy
what id really like is a hybrid - fast enough but tuff enough for ruff roads
is that a bit bi ?
oh and ive got loads of lycra not that anyone here would want to know - and some chamois shorts too
and a purple helmet!!
I have to confess to wearing lycra when running.
You can't tell the ladies to wear it and don't wear it yourself. It's not polite. o)
