Whatever you do, do not attempt to do speedwork on the roads. Playing fields. or a track or allright though. Oh and in extremely icy conditions, I've run in cross-country spikes in the past (but there was a hell of a lot more ice and snow than there is at the moment). There's an interesting pair of trainers specifically designed for running on ice in this month's RW (icebug multirun; www.icebug.se), but I'm not sure you's need them often enough to justify the £70 they cost
