Hi Hippo, sorry to hear you are feeling tired, as you have no more races planned for a few weeks it maybe a good idea to take a few easy training weeks and run for enjoyment and do a few miles every day to keep yourself sane, as I know you do enjoy running for its own sake.
Running can be hard when its cold and dark and wet and windy, but I generally feel better when I have been out and done some running even if its been 20 mins here and there.
Hippo, I think you have done really well this year to have run a good few marathons under 5.30 so just pat yourself on the back and smile.
Fantastic 5 mile plod this morning. The Wandle looked very pretty :-)
Mile 1 10.57 mm Mile 2 11.39 mm Mile 3 12.03 mm ( new bit of my run, it was a bit lonely and I was nervous so HR soared!!) Mile 4 11.54 mm Mile 5 11.54 mm
All at 70% WHR
I'm finally getting over my lurgy so 'proper' training can recommence.
Good Luck to Jane for her cross country. I hope it is as nice up there as it is here.
just back from the x-country. it was cold and dry and the sun shone for most of it, prefect weather for running. The start was steep downhill so took it easy and settled into a steady and not too an uncomfortable pace, first mile 9.11, starting to feel it so eased back slightly, second mile 9.59 this included a steady uphill climb, mile 3 9.23 and only another half mile to go all uphill and finished 3.6 miles in 34.54 so not too bad, slowed down a fair bit in the last half mile. It was muddy in places but my trail shoes had good grip so didn't slide about too much. Will be back there to do some training but at a much more sadate pace I think ))
Right - I am no technophobe really but I dont 'understand' them 'puters sometimes ..... I can find where to plug my garmin in!! I am presuming I need another atachment to plug the atachment into the back of my lap top?? I seem to have to ends looking very much the same on 'puter and the extra bit supplied with the garmin ....
Sorry Imelda can't help you with the computer thingy and the Garmin 201 as I haven't tried it myself yet. Maybe you could ask someone else on the Gear forum?
Hi Dawn, BTing is base training, there is a very long thread about this on training, the first few pages of that thread explains it better than I ever could.
I take it this will be your first marathon Dawn, have you run other distances in races?
thanks everyone for your good wishes re:x-country race.
just over 6 miles this morning a bit later than usual due to being out til after midnight last night, sadly no drinking as it was my turn to drive home.
No Jane, I think it is unrelated (probably just as well). I don't know what it is - maybe too many miles too quickly! I did 3 weeks of 6 days running, 30-35 mpw. Maybe it was too much. I'll rest now I think!
jane thanks for the message - will check out thread on base training. i have done a few half-marathons and this will be my first marathon. all seems very daunting at this stage but encouraging to hear there will be others slow but determined all the best Dawnx
Hippo did you do anything to your thigh, or did it just get better? I am hoping mine will do that if I cut back the miles and do some swimming or cycling as well to prevent any more excess pounds!

3 miles in 12.33 minutes - now that would be impressive!
