www.humanrace.co.uk should get you there. I've done several of these as it's close enough to walk there and back as well as do the run itself, and am doing the 16 this time round. However, I'm tending to agree with fellow club people that they are too expensive for minimal marshalling and a ridiculously early start. And those bl**dy cheap white mugs......
Caz, I really like these races, because there is a really good atmosphere, especially when you get to the finish area in Kingston Town Centre. Also it (the 8M) is one of my regular training runs now because it is mostly flat and a really scenic route for the bit along the river (about 3 miles)As for the road bits of the route, well its dead straight up one road and then up another long straight road, which is a bit of a killer when you are thinking "how far to go", but I think it is worth it.
Caz, Im doing the 16 mile as part of my NY training , do it last year , as per other posts , nice and flat couple of inclines when u go over the bridge.
huh? BTA stands for British Triathlon Association. I hadn't noticed that on the form when i filled it in but maybe they have reused the entry form for the Triathlon that they organise, and forgotten to take the BTA bit out. You might want to make sure that you have the right form, because I nearly took the wrong one, they look very similar.
You should have no problem getting in as long as you apply in time. There won't be entries on the day though, I reckon, as it nearly always fills up about the week or so before the race.
I like the way they build it up in the local paper - 16 miles/marathon as the serious option, 8 miles as a 'fun run' for the 'novice runner' - blimey I would maybe consider 2 or 3 miles as a funrun, but I wonder how many people have tried the 8 miler after reading the paper's reviews, without realising just how much of a long way 8 miles really is to a novice runner!
Cheers RR. Just called the number and they said they were still taking entries. So the cheque's in the post and fingers crossed! This will be my warm up for The Cabbage Patch 10 the following week (if I get in there too!).
Just paid £42 quid for two entries into this race and two entries into Cabbage patch - ouch! But then I suppose I don't always pay this much for a race, I like the runs, free mug (mug would be right) blah blah blah.
Still, when I think that I am paying less to enter the 3-race LARA series of 10ks than for the 8 miler...
Hi all, I got my number and race details last night, 1991 blue number for the 8 miler. I now can't decide if I should run in Serpentine colours or URWFRC. I put done Serpentine as my club on the form.
No number yet, but it has to be the forum vest for neutral venues like this, then it's easier to spot during the run - keep the club vest for club/Grand Prix events etc.
Hi Keith I don't know what the closing date is, I couldn't find one, but the query line is
078 85 964664 (11am-6pm)
They would be able to tell you
Snoop/BK, yeah I've decided to wear the URWFRC vest for this one, the Serpie one for The Cabbage Patch, URWFRC for Deal 5 and I think I have to wear the Serpie one for Brighton as it says to wear first claim club vests.
I've sent off for my form but have just noticed you all talking about URWFRC vests etc. Do you have to be a member of a club for this one?. I'm in the process of joining the Dartford Road runners, but just haven't got round to it. Any ideas?.
Bootie, I've pasted this message in from The Dog Walker as it explains all you need to know about URWFRC.
I am posting this on all fora as I believe there are many who are unaware of what the UNOFFICIAL RUNNERS WORLD FORUM RUNNING CLUB (URWFRC) is and does.
The URWFRC was formed shortly after the London Marathon this year by the forumites who were around at the time. Over the months, the club has grown significantly and there are now well over 300 registered users.
The original aim of the club was primarily to allow users to post races that they are running in on the web site and then arrange to meet up with other forumites at these events. This has been very successful. These days, the site boasts training logs, running profiles and all manner of other things. We even have our own kit as well.
If you are interested in joining the club, then goto...
...and register. It is totally free to join and everyone is welcome. From here you will be able to find out all you need about ordering kit. We currently offer vests and T-shirts, but will shortly be doing short sleeved and long sleeved running tops too. It is worth remembering that we exist as an ‘unofficial’ club which means we are not affiliated to any athletics bodies and subsequently cannot be used to obtain discounts at races.
And if you have never visited the URWFRC forum before, come and join us. It’s a good laugh and you’re assured a warm welcome whoever you are.

and it's flat!
I do this race every time, as its my local race, even though they seem to put the price up every time it is run!

This is probably a dumb question (I apologise for my ignorance), but what does BTA number mean on the entry form?

I called about 2 weeks ago they had around 1000 applicants , there is a number on the website if your worried about not getting in.
