Running partners??

Any hints and tips on how to find running partners? No one else I know, that lives near me, would dream of running anywhere!

Also, the local club members I have seen out and about are very fast, whippet like chaps, and I am a super plodder.. So, very hesitant about joining them at the moment....

I am in the bradford area, and need like minded ladies to help me up the hills :-) I enjoy running and am just concerned that the dark nights / mornings are impeding on the hours I have to run - I don't want to go out alone in the dark. (Call me a whimp but..)

I just did the Kirkstall 10k in 67:16, so that's an idea of my speed (!). I also am aiming for a half marathon January time, and FLM in April.

Anyone around or who knows someone who wants a partner or is in a local group, drop me an email :-)

Thank you

    Go-Slow,
Just wishing you good luck in your plight to find a running partner. I was in the same position as you until recently and met a running partner (and friend) on this forum who lives half a mile away from me... so don't give up hope - just get yourself about on the forum and you never know who you'll meet.

or somerset! i like running alone a lot of the time, but it would be good to have someone who isn't 10 x quicker to start doing speedwork with.

    good luck all! :-)

If anyone wants a very slow running partner (12 minute miles) around the Bromsgrove/Redditch area, then let me know.
I enjoy running on my own, and one of the reasons that I run is that you can do it when and where you want without too much forward planning, but there are occasions when it would help to have someone else to chat with and encourage me to do something when I don't feel like it.
I have tried joining my local club, but while they were helpful they are all like greyhounds and leave me for dead in seconds!

    Hi Go-Slow

I think you probably have the wrong impression about your local running clubs, I'm about to join a club I've been along a few times to join them on training runs as a guest ( my wife has been a member for a while ) . I'm sure like me you'll find that there is a wide range of abilities and speeds and will easily find someone about your level to run with. Perhaps a road runners club moreso than a strictly athletic club. check it out, what can you lose.

I live near bexleyheath and was wondering if anyone knew of any beginner friendly running clubs in the area as I am a bit of a plodder!

I am based in Chiswick West London and keep dabbling around on this website in search of inspiration/motivation to start running again. I used to run/plod with the Serpies but I started a new job back in April which means I cannot make it too the club nights and consequently I have stopped running. Are the there any runners in W12,W4 or W6 out there?

I too am a plodder - I however want to become a faster plodder so took the bull by the horns and went to my local running clubs beginner evening - I have since been back and intend to keep going - I am the slowest one there - I do a shorter route than everyone else with the exception of Wendy who runs with me - she is very patient and encouraging - This week they were pleased to see me back and i felt part of the group - I now have something to aim for - the back of the pack!!!! However we all have to start somewhere - Sandhurst Joggers have made me feel welcome regardless of my speed so for all of you thinking about joining a running club - go on take the plunge its worth it

I was recently in the same position of trying to find a running partner and a running club.

I have recently joined Dudley Ladies (West Mids) which as the title suggests is for ladies only.

What I like about the club is that they cater for everyone and ensure that no one runs on their own and if that means a fast runner running slow for a while then so be it.

The club is well organised, very friendly and very supportive. They have given me the confidence and motivation to carry on with my running.

I too am looking for a running partner - Tunbridge Wells area. I am about to re-join a running club (had to stop due to injury) but they are a lot faster than I am so I have to do shorter routes - fun but not as rewarding as being able to keep going with somebody else for the entire run.

If anybody lives nearby let me know.

I would love a running partner (10k in 73 mins), but there doesn't seem to be any forumites from Norfolk. Let me know if I'm wrong!

I am going along to my local running club tomorrow night. I am quite nervous about it.. but I have emailed them my times and they assure me that I will not be the slowest - but even if I were, they said that I would still be welcome! So, I'll let you all know how I get on.

Looks like youve been inspired by wine already

Best thing to do is go along to your local clubs as a guest member for one night only and see which one suits you. We have lady runners from 12 minute milers to 3 hour marathoners and everyone is welcomed. It doesn't matter how fast you run when socialising in the bar afterwards!

    Hi Nicola in Richmond/Twickenham

I live in Raynes Park near Wimbledon but I am looking for some one around the 11 min mile mark to do some long runs with in Richmond Park. I'm a bit nervous running in parks at the minute as we've had a couple of rapes around here recently. If any one lives near Raynes Park I'm also looking for a marathon training buddie for the dark nights.

    Go Slow,

I live in Brighouse - not too far from Bradford and go out with a small informal group on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7.30pm, we are of various standards and ages and normally do 4-5 miles with stops if people need them! We meet at Lawson Rd (outside the council offices), Brighouse. You're welcome to join us

Does anyone live in or near Witham, Essex.

They do have a running club, which I tried, but as I'm not very fast yet, they very kindly adjusted their run for me, and I felt a bit guilty, so would like some-one to run with to improve on speed and for a bit of company.
