Mizuno Wave Strada II

Hi,

I recently bought some Mizuno Wave Strada II's for £40 as my first pair of running shoes. I am 70kg. Does anyone know about this shoe or similar shoes? Do you think they'll provide enough cushioning for on and off road running?

The Wave Strada is aimed, profile wise, at a runner like yourself. It is a no nonsense training shoe at an affordable price. You are not exactly heavy so the EVA misole along with the Wave Plate in the heel will give you more than adequate cushioning for a beginer.

Although the shoe is more robust than other shoes within our range and it will with stand a reasonable amount of mild off road use it was not designed for this type of work.

If you like the feel and fit of the Wave Strada and you want your footwear to progress with your running and mileage, you should look at the Wave Mustang as your next purchase. This will provide you with full length cushioning and comes with a slightly more rugged outsole to cater for more off road runs.

    Hope this helps. Happy running!

  • I bought them the other day and I thought they were fine till I tried to run in them. They didn't feel to be enough stability and my feet were moving outwards slightly. I checked my foot type and my previous trainers and found Im not a pronator or supinator. I am going to attempt to take the shoes back and try and change them for the wave ignite's which look a better choice.

unfortunately this is the nature of the beast. You can't really get the feel of any shoe unless you run in it and then it's sometimes too late.

If you are going through a stage of finding the correct shoe, (especially beginers) what I would suggest is if your local retailer doesn't have a treadmill then buy the shoes and try them out in a gym (or where ever you can get access to a treadmill.

As for the Ignites, they are certainly more stable than the Wave Strada and are our entry level stability shoe.

Hope you don't have trouble changing them!

  • Hey,

I will try tomorrow. My mum seems to think I've got no chance now I've worn them. They have only had a few minutes of running in them then I decided to stop because of unusual pains in different parts of my legs which i don't get normally and I realised they wasn't stable enough. They still look brand new.
  • Hi. I am also having a rough time with a pair of Mizuna shoes recently bought. These are the women's Wavr Maverick. My feet feel so heavy and the running hard. these were recommended by a specialist running shop. Perhaps they offer too much stability. Any alternative suggestion?

  • Hi Angel

    (Great name by the way!)
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time with the ladies Wave Maverick. Again, without actually seeing the way that you run and asking a few questions face to face I cannot say if they are too stable for you.

They are indeed a stability shoe but a lightweight one at that. I don't over pronate but can quite comfortably run in the Mavericks but again without knowing more I cannot judge.

If you are after a neutral shoe (if you weren't aware that the Mavericks had more stability than you were after) then I would suggest the Wave Precision for a lightweight neutral shoe or the Wave Rider, which has awesome cushioning but still remains light for it's category.

Going back to your problem, I can't see that the shoes are actually making your feet feel heavy as they are very light for a stability shoe. They may indeed however feel cumbersome if you do not require the support.

I hope this helps, and if not, let me know.

  • Greg thanks for the reply. Yes indeed there was a feeling of cumbersomeness,if that is grammatically correct, but in spite of this the cushioning is great. My feet hate any restriction to the arches and these shoes were the only I have worn which allow my arches some flexibility. However every run in them feels hard in away that my running has never felt before. I am off to sweatshop to try out the wave rider. I will let you know how things work out.
