Aaah - but surely that is in an ideal world ? When I ran my first Half this year I'd done one 12 miler, one 15 miler, and one 8 miler. And the rest were 6 miles or less. Probably about 3 runs per week on average ? Is that bad according to the schedule ?
When I did my first half of the year in June, I had run no further then a 10km race for over 8 months, and was only going out 2 times a week, but it was still ok.
Blummin 'eck - a regular 40 miles a week ? I'd be way too tired for anything if I was doing those kinda distances.
I think my highest mileage this year was 30 miles and that included running the darn Marathon. Most weeks would have been 18 miles or so, except when building for FLM, when I did get a few 30 mile weeks.
In fact before my 1.26 PB for the Chester Half I'd only done 26 miles spread over 4 weeks, but with about 110 miles of cycling and a very few runs on the treadmill.
I really think I'd go worse if I ran as much as I was expected to.
So doing a 10 mile interval session tonight then ?
I did a ten miler last night. It was tough, but I got through it ok! For my faster runs I was, and still am to a certain extent, doing 5 milers. I plan on upping my mileage, then tapering down a couple of weeks before.
I did my best half marathon time (and incidentally, best 10k time) while I was building up to FLM2002. I think the regular training running over the distance helped a lot, and definitely imporved the finishing time. It was the difference between running strongly to the end and slowing in the last few miles.
JFTR my best times are 41:01 for the 10k and 1:33:03 for a half, so your 1:40 certainly looks possible, although I suspect more long runs closer to the distance would imporve your chances )

If it was you'te mistaken, I regularly do about 32-35 now, but thats it! I'd be running on stubs otherwise!
