well, I'll be doing the 1000 thing either way I think. I want to raise money for Clatterbridge - for Nicky, me and my friend in the office who lost her Mum yesterday. But don't think they do Gold Bond places - so trying for Ballot first... then will go down other routes afterwards. Like selling soul etc
I wouldn't get too excited Cath - I've applied for 8 years in the last 9 (missed 2001) and not got in!!! Have been rejected for the past 4 years so hopefully guaranteed a place in 2007! By then, I'll probably have given up running and will mostly be wedged in my sofa of an evening eating chocolate. now that sounds like a plan
Had 3 month Oncology appointment last night with Dr. Clark. He was pleased with how fit and healthy I am looking. Explained about the marafun place and intended 04:30:00 time.. and said he was very proud - wouldn't have had me down as a marathon runner 3 years ago. Didn't have to have mammogram or bloods on this occasion and routine phys exam showed no lumps or bumps in the wrong places. Discussed further oncology appointments... he wouldn't hear of me not going back at all - so we compromised and agreed that I can go back in 12 months time instead. So, still not got 100% all clear - but tis looking better and better.
CdK -- you know what... until very recently, I'd learned the last 3 years not to plan anything, not to really look ahead... just in case something happens. Now though... can't seem to help it. So I think you could be right!!
I have only just discovered this forum and was very touched by yout story. A few months ago I was diagnosed with non-hodgkinsons lyphoma, so far I have recieved radiotherapy and am hope that is all I need. Like you the shock of being told I had cancer was devistating.
The first thing I did was I was told was I entered the race for life in Bedford(5k)! AS I was in the middle of treatment and hadn't done much running before it took me 46minutes, but I raised £2300. I am now determined to cointue running although it is going to take a while to build up to running 5k without walking.
Thanks for your posting. I ran a R4L immediately after I finished treatment - it was very hard work for me, both physically and mentally. The friend that I ran it with is now dead also and her prognosis was better than mine. It took me 44 mins and 45 seconds a huge step up from my then usual 26 mins. The shock of cancer IS devastating and it has taken me nearly 3 years to deal with the treatments and aftermath that it wreaked with my family, relationships and friends.
But hard as it seems...
Keep going with what you're doing... it does get easier and the feeling of being able to run again and run well will return. Life won't ever be the same again - but it can be rebuilt and it can be improved upon.
Whenever I see this thread up on the top page, I get a little wiggly worm of anxiety in my tum! But I have to look!
It is so lovely to see your recovery making such progress, I am sure it will be of such help to many people to read through the downs and the ups of your journey. Keep at it Cath ( I have yet to make it under the hour for a 10k!)
So... if you recall March 20th 2003 was the last day of my treatment. This year Liverpool Half Marathon is being held on Sunday March 19th (they couldnt hold it on the Monday they would have had to shut the city, inconsiderate eh!)
Anyway. I clocked up 02:21:22 last year for my first half. I'd like to improve that. More importantly though.. this year, I'm doing it for a reason. Breast cancer charities have had enough sponsorship from me... so now it's time to think around it.
