Hey Jo...the men all went out running when you mentioned Romance!!
Trust SJ to come in and set us all to rights!! Feel free to use the one liners SJ!!
Hmmm...romance...probably being whisked away to New York for my birthday last year...being wined and dined in the most beautiful resturants and staying in the most lovely 5 star hotel!
I've obviously gone down in the estimations since I turned 40!! Last year romance, flowers and champaigne,...this year I had to run 26.2 miles!!
A Potential Christmas present....Garmin Forerunner 301 GPS...Nobody's raved about the software yet.
I programmed SJ's workout as "SJ's Workout and sent it to my Garmin -it then tells me what speed to do and beeps at me if I don't go fast enough. It monitors my heart and I can study and analyse my run on my PC when I get home..... £160 from Amazon.
Mr Sluggie would be the first to admit he's not the romantic type - and we have been together for 30 years (I suppose that in itself is quite romantic!). But some nice things nonetheless - materializing unexpectedly a mile from the finish of my first marathon and running it with me (despite the fact that he was wearing a fleece, trousers and lace-up shoes). And just before Dublin, he surprised me by downloading dozens of running-related songs for me to put on my MP3.
Not quite a romantic gesture but the very same lady also put a rather personal photo tag against her number in my mobile when it was unattended. (don't tell her I told you)
Suffice to say I now look forward to receiving her calls.
I had to split my intervals into two half sesions on Saturday. Really surprised to find second phase a lot easier and faster but on reflection it's proabably just my body getting used to running quickly again.
Just goes to support what I said last week - If you run at the same pace all the time all you're doing is training to run at that pace!
for everyone else , just to clarify, it's on quasi-BF's phone not SJ's.... Although AB12 has been known to have a very funny expression when Dolly Parton rings him about Bagels!
I personally think romance is over rated! What is special is fidelity, friendship, support and laughter.
Mr GFB has the above in spades!!
We'll be married 19 years coming up and we only knew each other 8 months when we got married...don't let my kids know, when they ask, "how long we're you going out with dad when you got married mum?" I always say..."Oh AGES!"
I only found out from my Mum a few months ago that she and my dad had known each other just six weeks when they got married (it was during the war and he was about to be sent overseas)! And she always told me to 'Have a good look round before you settle down'!
Hi SJ its good to mix up the pace. I found that it took a while to blow away the cobwebs and find my stride.
I must admit that I find it much harder to get out for a run in the cold and the dark though and have missed going for a run twice in the last week. (yesterday evening ended up with a glass of Cava in my hand instead - Demon drink!) I think I'll have to make the effort to go out at lunchtime and/ or use treadmills at night. Oh and running in the freezing rain doesn't work too well for me. Persuade me that all I need is the right gear?
Mr Happy, you get so much out of running and I'm guessing at least part of that is being out in the freshair and daylight. I know that I have to force myself out of the office for a couple of mins at lunchtime (I start and finish work in the dark) just to see daylight. It makes such a difference to my mood.
Mr Happy the Norwegians say 'There is no bad weather, only bad clothing' (but then they don't have much sense of humour). Time for a new jacket/gloves/hat/ etc? The garmin will surely give you lots of excuses to get outside anyway!
My last bf forgot my birthday completely. He was away on the day and was, as you do, sending soppy text messages at about 11:30pm. Finishing up with the usual "I love you"... there was a deadly silence when he got the reply "apparently not enough to wish me a happy birthday".

She got a chinese burn for her trouble.
SJ
SJ: Ouch, ok lets drop the romance talk. back to speedwork and long runs...
C'mon Jo...you've obviously had a wee romance story you want to share with the group!!

How did you get on with 10/15/10?

Can't think of anything romantic but have lots of examples at the other end of the scale!

I knew a guy that bought his wife 20 pairs of fawn coloured tights for Christmas...and wrapped them all indivually!! :-O
A BIG, BIG mistake.
Ever seen the scene in White Palace* with the very foxy Susan Sarandon and James Spader when he buys her a dust buster?
Hell hath no fury.
SJ
* Great flick for the girls. Guys will probably fast forward to the bit where Susan gets her kit off. The rest is err...romantic?
