  • Hi

This will be the first running of the London Marathon for me, after three attempts I finally got a place with my club.

Ive decided to raise money for NSPCC which needs all the help we can give it. Too many children are still being abused, bullied or ignored and hopefully raising funds by running the marathon will help make a difference.

    Please give all you can.

    Thank you

  • I'm running the London marathon for the first time in 2006, raising money for Guide Dogs.

I chose Guide Dogs, as my mom lost her sight 7 years ago, at the age of 61, and was eventrually partnered with her guide dog "Unity". After my mom being limited to where she could go on her own and what she could do, Unity has given her a new lease of life. They now both do voluntary work two or three times a week, helping other people who have lost their sight.

If you would like to donate my website is

    Thanks for your support.

  • The FLM 2006 will be my first ever Marathon, and I'm running for the Down's Syndrome Association. It's a great charity which helps people with Down's Syndrome live full and rewarding lives - something we all deserve. I have a one year old niece, Katie, and I want her to achieve the very best that she is capable of.

    Hi

This is my first marathon and I've been lucky to get a place with CLIC Sargent. CLIC Sargent's role is to try and help children that are diagnosed as suffering from Cancer or Leukaemia and their families cope and keep life as normal as possible.

I'm sure you'll agree that it is a worthwhile cause and if you can spare some cash you know it would go to a good cause.

    Thanks for reading

  • HI. I'll be running my first marathon ever (the FLM) and I'll be raising money for Life Education Centres.

Life Educational Centres is a national charity that works with schools and whose mission is to educate children about the effects of drugs, including alcohol and tobacco. They do a fantastic job, but they also need as much support as possible to keep working on their projects. This is why I have decided to run for them.

If you are so kind and would like to sponsor me you can donate online at the following address:

    Thanks for reading this!
  • Hello,

I am running the FLM for the first time, for the Leukaemia Research Fund. Ever since my Mum was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukaemia, four years ago, I've been drawn to the amazing work that the Leukaemia Research Fund do.

If anyone was interested in sponsoring me, or know anyone that might, please donate at the following address:

    www.justgiving.com/matthewgarman

Thank you for reading this and good luck to all those running!
  • I am running the FLM for Arthritis care. I chose this charity as several of my family members suffer from the crippling effects of the disease. It seems fitting to use running to raise the money as I am so lucky to be able to run when so many, both old and young, struggle with walking.

Fund raising is as much of a challenge as training so I hope some of you out there respond to my plea for sponsorship. My web page is www.justgiving.com/lesleykennedy
    Thankyou in anticipation

I am taking part in the Flora London Marathon 2006 in aid of Oxfam.

I have spent all my working life in education and I know that education can make a real difference to a child's future. It is Oxfam’s aim that all children living in poverty will achieve their right to a good quality basic education and adults will have access to sufficient educational opportunities to help overcome their poverty. Oxfam's new project to rebuild and support schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo will make a real difference to many children's lives. Please help me raise £1000 to contribute to those children's futures. Thank you.

  • From the wheezy boy at school least likely to complete the 100m I will be running the 2006 FLM for DebRA. If you saw the C4 documentary 'The boy who's skin fell off' about the life of Jonny Kennedy, you will not need to read any further to be convinced why DebRA is such a great cause. If you didn't (or if you still need convincing) read on…

DebRA is the only charity conducting research into and offering support to sufferers of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). EB is a very rare genetic condition in which the skin and internal body linings blister at the slightest knock or rub, causing painful, open wounds. If you think about how many things touch your skin on a daily basis, including your clothes, and then imagine that that contact will turn into a painful blister you can begin to imagine the suffering that EB causes. There is no treatment and there is no cure.

My nephew was born with EB and he is now 5 years old. I have never given him a cuddle, and he will never be able to enjoy the running that we take for granted. It’s not easy looking on as he watches the other children do all the things that children do.

DebRA relies on donations and their annual budget is less than some charities will spend in a day, but they work hard. Every £5 will fund 15 minutes of vital research, £75 will provide an EB Health Care Specialist for a day and £150 funds a researcher bringing the reality of a cure one day nearer. I am one of only 10 runners with Golden Bond places and I have pledged to raise £2000. You can see the difference that this will make to DebRA.

So…please donate anything you can and help me to help DebRA make a difference. Visit my web-page at www.justgiving.com/darren4debra

    Many thanks
  • I am running for Children With Leukaemia for the third year now. My reasons for choosing them: A rew years ago my youngest son was very ill. He ached everywhere and had no energy to be a normal teenager and was living on painkillers. He underwent many blood tests over several weeks all of which seemed to be getting worse. Leukaemia was a possibility and so he needed to have one more blood test before a bone marrow sample was going to be taken. He was taken off his medication for the week before the blood test. The results of the last test showed improvement so luckily it wasn't Leukaemia.

Those few weeks were the worst of my life and how families cope with the diagnosis has my full respect.

The charity was set up by the Gorman family who lost their two children to Leukaemia and the money raised goes into researching new treatments as well as supporting the families of sufferers. They recieve no other funding than charitable donations,

Please, please donate whatever you can as every penny counts and will make a difference
You can support me at www.bmycharity.com/riofair
    and thank you
  • Hey all, I was ment to run the FLM last year for a charity called the Rainbow Centre. They are based in the Fareham/Hampshire area and have helped over 400 children learn to overcome the problems caused by conditions such as cerebral palsy and other types of motor impairment by using a special system of learning known as Conductive Education.

After all my hard training for months and looking at a 3.30ish time I was in a motorcycle accident (not my fault), shattering my left ankle and fracturing my right arm, after i had surgery to have a metal plate and pins fitted to my ankle.

After months and months of physio i am now looking at about a sub 4hour time, running for the same charity!

So if you would like to help me help the children www.justgiving.com/andydavis

Every little helps so thanks very much in advance!!
  • Hi all,

This is my first FLM. On the 4th March 2005 my best friend and housemate was stabbed to death outside our flat in Birmingham. He was unarmed and did not offer any resistance.

Running the FLM is my attempt to make a stance against such a heinos crime, to honour the memory of my friend and to raise money for the extremely worthwhile cause of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

For anyone interested in sponsoring me or requiring more information please visit my website at

  • Hello everyone,

I am raising money for Diabetes UK, after my aunt underwent a 10 month hospital ordeal last year.
Simply stubbing her toe on a supermarket trolley, led to a stay in intensive care for 3 months. After 3 heart attacks and 2 leg amputations, I am very glad to say she has now recovered and back at home. I attribute this miraculous recovery to the excellent care that was available on the Diabetic ward. I have now pledged to run the Flora London Marathon to raise money for Diabetes UK.

To see more about me, my training and Diabetes, please visit:
    http://claireslondonmarathon.blogspot.com/

Or, if you very kindly just want to donate some money, please go straight to:

Of course, all donations / pledges will be very gratefully received.

    Thank you,
    Claire

  • ST JOHN AMBULANCE NEEDs YOUR HELP

    www.justgiving.com/FO2006

Everyone has seen the familiar Black and white uniforms of the St John Ambulance team proving First Aid care at the FLM, football matches and other races around the country. They also provided 100 volunteers and 37 Ambulances in the July 7th bombings in London, working alongside the London Ambulance Service.

What is less well known is their work in respite care, support groups and library services. All this is provided by volunteers and by charitable donations. Please help to support this work by sponsoring my London Marathon run. Thanks.

  • Hi All,

I will be running my first marathon for Seafarers UK.

    www.justgiving.com/runrunpete

Britain has always been a seafaring country. It was our sailors who made us great and kept us free, and we still rely on their courage and fortitude every day. They need our support too.

Seafarers UK works for all seafarers: veterans and serving members of the Naval Services, the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets, their families and communities. Over the last ten years they have given over £26 million in grants to help sailors and their families, retired seafarers, veterans, Sea Cadets and the whole maritime community.

Please help me to give something back.

    Many thanks in advance
    Pete
