  • No problem LI. Post your 10k pb asap. You can't fail.

  • Thanks for the info JJ. Have printed it and will calculate my lost youth! I can't stop - things to do. But I needed to dip in just to make sure that you are all okay. The beauty of this system of communication is that you can't talk about me behind my back!Good luck on Sunday LI. Hey JJ. Don't you have a long run on Sunday? I have a 15 miler- or have you done your final one? Are you starting at the Green Start. If so, I'll see you there. I am running for the Alzheimer's Research Trust. I'll be back to check on you Ceal - and try to persuade you to go the extra miles and do a marathon. It is worth doing it just to get to start with the footballers at the Green Start. You do a PB over the first mile just trying to keep up with those lovely bums!

    See ya.
  • P.
Too late for any more long runs. We'll get no fitter between now and the FLM and only increase the risk of injury. I'm just maintainig my fitness level. Look for me at the Green start. Grey long sleeve running top with JJ on front rhs in 4" letters. Who's the lost youth? Anything you want to tell us?

Hi everybody, I feel really out of things having been away for 3/4 days. Not much time to chat, loads to catch up on. Then grandchildren coming here next week for 3 plus days. Hopless training, feel pressured now to fit in some runs between now and then. I have done some 4 hour hours heavy pushchair walking around the streets of S London. Does that count I wonder. It felt harder than running! I will never be able to consistently train for a marathon with all these magic interruptions. Magic is referring to the grandchildren 1 nd 3 years. Not to the lack of training time.

Will look at other photo of you JJ later.

All the very best for you 10 k at w/e LI.

You still sound as you are training hard Pussy.

All I have time for right now.
  • LI
Good luck for tomorrow. I've been reading the tea leaves and there's a definite pb coming up.

JJ what are you doing with your 'spare time', now that you are not running so many miles? I guess lots of jobs must have accumulated whilst you had your heavy training schedule!
  • cealceal ✭✭✭
JJ and Pussy, do you have a web-site for your sponsorship money. I would like to send you both a modest sum.

I knuckled down to some serious training over the last two days, having only run 13 miles on Sunday and nothing since. I managed 7 miles on Thursday, followed by 10 or even 11 on Friday. Not too sure of the exact distance. I ran two 10 minute sprints in the middle section. I found that hard! I have really taken to hosing my legs down with cold water after my shower. I must admit that the shower is not as cold as it could be for some tecnical reason. I tried a bath a quarter full of very cold water on Friday and then sat in it. I managed only about a minute before I shot out of it up becasue of the pain!!!

I have tried some fruit pastilles on my longer run and think that it helped, I will try again tomorrow. I will aime for 15 miles tomorrow, which is two and a half laps of a circuit. The first circuit I am running with someone a lot slower, about 11 minute miles. However, I enjoy the conversation and when I have run with her before I start the second lap very refreshed and warmed up.

Has anybody heard anything about 'Power Breathe' The leaflet keeps popping out of my Runner's World Magazine. It sounds impressive, but maybe it is a bit gimmicky. I would be pleased to receive ny information anybody may have. It retails at about £50 I think.
  • Hello Ceal.
My main hobby is gardening and all things horticultural (flowers not veg.) so I've masses of work outstanding that easily eats up the spare time. I specialise in daffodils and grow them for showing. Today is the local spring flower show. I have entries in about 20 daffodil classes and 10 or 12 other classes.
Sounds like a tough training schedule but do, please, make sure that you get rest days. You will actually run much faster if you recover properly. You're welcome to the cold water treatment; I won't even swim in the Med. in mid-summer. Go for the jelly babies, they have a greater sugar content and dissolve quicker. Anyway, enjoy the sunshine. I'm off to the flower show.

I'm impressed with your horticultural skills. I hope you win a prize or two or three today.

I'm having a good rest today you will be pleased to hear.

    I. also. will only swim in places like Fiji or Jamaica. So you have to be very impressed at my bravery with the cold water treatment.

I went to my local garage to buy jelly babies, only they did not have any, so pastilles had to do. When they have gone I will purchase the babies.

I forgot to address the last memo to JJ, although it is obvious. Alos thankyou again the the age charts, very interesting.
  • Ceal.
    Bravery? Sheer madness woman.
Won 8 first prizes, 7 seconds and some odds and ends. This is a 'sport' where age is a definite advantage.
    JJ
  • Ceal and Pussy.
Thanks for your good wishes for my 10k tomorrow.
Likewise to JJ for stirring the tealeaves into brewing up a PB(Perfect Blend?).
Last run was on Wed. Then a gym sesh on Thurs. Rest day Fri. Browse round Swinderby big Antiques Fair today. One antique amongst others!
Hope your flower power showed through Ok JJ.
This time tomorrow will show my awful or awesome result.........
  • LI
What's the interest in antiques? Do you collect anthing or are you just looking for that Faberge egg for a fiver?
    JJ
  • Just got back from Lincoln. Pleased to say managed to beat last years 10k time of 60m.50s. Today I looked at the finishing line clock as I gratefully slowed down and it read 55m.54s.

    JJ
Antique answer later, I've left the bath water running.
    Impey.
  • LI
That's outstanding. 5 mins. better is a brilliant run whatever the circumstances. I can see I'm going to have to start training seriously for my next 10k season in the autumn.
If you keep improving like this you're going to be very competitive in the V65 group. Next year isn't it?
    JJ

A Briliant run. 5 minutes off a 6 mile run is nearly a minute faster each mile. Wow. Well done, obviously you have got the training right.
  • cealceal ✭✭✭
Johnny, Well done with the daffs. What is your next flower to exhibit? Where do you find the time to work train for marathon and garden to the level that you do?

Have you got lots of energy, now that you are decreasing your miles by masses?
  • cealceal ✭✭✭
I have the grandchildren all week so it will be a week without running, unless I manage to get the odd mile in when my husband gets home from work in the evening. However, he is often late! Also, I find I cannot sleep if I run in the evening. So the most I would run would be a gentle 3 miles.

I managed about 15 yesterday, but found it very cold the wind was very uncomforable.

I expect JJ you are hoping for cool weather at the w/e but I think you could do without the wind.

Where are you Pussy, how is your pre training going?
  • JJ.

Sorry I'm late on parade. You asked about antiques. Wifey Margaret is into Royal Doulton figurines,Spode plates, etc. I collect vinyl records,LPs,45s even vinyl 78s. Preferably vintage rocknroll/1950s as that is where the rarity is and therefore higher value. One LP I have(Chuck Berry) goes for around £400. We are not into old furniture, even if we were theres no room for it!!
  • JJ.
Aye. Next year qualifies me for V65. But not sure if there are many 10ks that do this, they seem to cater for V60 or V70.Unless I'm missing something.
    FLM..are you wanting any sponsers?

    Ceal.
It's difficult trying to cut yourself in half with family committments and training runs. Still, if its next year for marathon for you there is plenty of time before then I suppose. 15 miles! Crikey, here's me on 6 milers only. You must have a lot of stamina.

    Pussy.
We haven't heard from you lately. Everything OK?
    Impey.
  • cealceal ✭✭✭
Hi Johnny, I remember you saying you do not like the heat is this why you are not racing until October? Or is it to give your body a rest?

I have just a minute or two whilst the grandchildren are occupied, I will not last any long er than that!

So I want to wish you GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK GOOD LUCK etc etc. ENJOY too. We all wait to hear every detail that you can cram in to tell us how you got on. Do you have the day off on Monday, or do you not need it?

    Thinking of you on Sunday.

  • cealceal ✭✭✭
    Hi Pussy,

I hope you get to read this before sunday. Because I want to wish you speedy legs for Sunday, I do hope that your run goes as you want it to. We want to hear every detail of the race early next week, so fill us in asap afterwards.

All the best,I will be thinking of both you and JJ on Sunday am
  • Me again. As fickle as ever. Thanks everybody for your good wishes. Hoping for cool weather and minimum wind. No harm in dreaming. JJ The lost youth was so long ago that I can't remember his name. I will look out for you at the Green start. I will peer myopically at every grey male bosom to indentify a JJ. Could get arrested by a nice young policeman. Afraid that I did 15 on Sunday but feel okay. Now only doing a couple of gentle 3 milers plus a long walk on Friday to our accommodation in London.

Ceal. Lovely offer of sponsorship. Very sweet. But no website. Shower your legs Ceal, don't sit in it. Awful. Yes, try Jelly Babies but get the good ones (Bassetts) because they are softer. They are yummy. I eat tham faster than I can run.

Well done with the daffs JJ. I live in the middle of daff country and the number of varieties are amazing.

Hey LI. Bet you are chuffed with your 10k. There are more PBs in there somewhere, you know. Keep at it.

I may not have the courage to report back after the Marathon. I may just stay invisible and look in on your conversation occasionally. If you never hear from me again you will know that I messed up big time. But hey, its only a game isn't it? Like heck!

Good luck one and all. Speak to you soon.
