Mizuno

  • run 4 your life,

Speaking as a runner and ex specialist retail worker, I would never advise a runner to wear a shoe (Mizuno or otherwise) that I do not think would suit them, and judging by the credentials you explained I feel the Mizuno Wave Precision would suit you and your running.

I am obviously mostly qualified to give you all an 'insiders' opinion on the Mizuno range of products as I have worked on the shoes from design through to production, and it is therefore in my best interests to ensure the information I provide is both factual and informative and in the best interest of the runner.

I like to think we build shoes for all runners to enjoy their running at whatever level, as well as providing shoes for international athletes to compete on the world stage, and therefore I hope all runners continue to enjoy injury free running in their chosen footwear. If you decide to convert from Asics to Mizuno then of course I am happy, the reason I listen in and join in on these forums is to understand greater the needs of runners and their misgivings with current products.

I hope you think my advice is as unbiased as an employees of Mizuno could be !

    Best Regards
    Simon@Mizuno

  • to all you out there with a "down" on Mizuno shoes, I'd just like to say I run in nothing else and am as happy as Larry (whoever he might be - does he run?). I am currently using the awesome Wave Rider for normal training runs (sensational comfort and "feel"), the Wave Precision (the best shoe I've ever run in) for speed-work (if it's possible, an even more pleasurable shoe that the Wave Rider), and the Wave Phantom, which took me comfortably to a FLM PB of 2:55 without adverse effects. So thank you Mizuno, for making running so rewarding. I guess everyone has their favourite make of shoe - it's no reason to go trashing other people's choices which might be perfect for them. Every runner is different - otherwise what a boring sport it would be! s.

I'm seriously enjoying my Wave Creations. To finish breaking them in I'm taking them to Eurodisney... and if they enjoy that I'll take them to the zoo.
  • I've just bought a pair of Wave Riders although I normally wear Asics or Adidas. I hope they meet my expectations. I anticipate running the FLM in 2003 and was going to buy another pair of Asics DS Trainers or DS Lytes for that event (they have served me well so far)- but the Wave Precision seems to be an interesting option. Has anyone had good/ bad effects from the Wave Precision in marathons? RW only seems to have good things to say about them.

Also,as apoint of interest how much does a pair of size 10 Wave Precisions weigh?

    Thanks, Phil
  • I wore Wave Precisions for the Dublin marathon last year and they worked a treat, though I switched to the Wave Phantoms for FLM 2002 which did feel a bit faster. I now prefer to do most of my training in the Precisions though I have a pair of Wave Riders that I use for recovery and long runs as a precaution. Mizuno shoes do it for me partly because they have some of the lowest heels of any shoes I've tried and that suits my style of running (forefoot striking). They do appear to wear out quicker than other shoes possibly.

The Wave Precision 3 is now even lighter supposedly (RW review says 295g, don't know what size this is for).
  • I to tried Mizuno's Alchemy, and despite a good fit was disappointed at how short a life span they had, and I tried 3 pairs. I now run in New Balance 1220S's which have been available for a long time, yet they have never featured in any shoe test report in the magazine, and according to the Runners World site do not even appear to exist. Being on the heavy side, I have run in Brooks Adrenaline and Beast Shoes, Asics MC+, Mizuno Alchemy and others. New Balance's 1220S shoes are the best I have ever run in, giving both support and being more flexible (faster) than other motion control shoes, and as said previously, according to Runners World don't appear to exist ?
  • I have Wave Riders - tried a pair of Nike on a training run and they hurt my instep. Will stay with Mizuno - tested and approved.
  • Clive - are you Colin's cousin?
