Have you noticed how happy TV weather presenters look when they're predcting really vile weather? The bloke on the Beeb's grinning his head off and looking like all his Christmases have come at once!
Out of our three breeding pairs of Barn Owls we've lost 50% of the chicks. The adult birds can't hunt in the rain, and it rained at the critical time more or less constantly.
The bats have suffered in similar fashion, and I haven't seen that many butterflies either.
The rain means that the grazing on the fells is better for the deer, which sound good on the face of it, but means that they'll be less inclined to come down to the forest in the winter - which means that the fawns will be more exposed to bad weather and predators (and poachers).
The positive side is that the midges seem to be having an excellent year as do the ticks :-))
It does look quite promising - it does depend on how mild the winter is and how many adults can succesfully overwinter.
The swallows and house martins are having a ball with all the midges. Its like a re-enactment of 633 squadron in the meadow outside my window.
I did manage to get our lower pasture cut a couple of weekends ago - Mrs and I mormally spend a couple of nights sleeping out under the stars after we've cut it - not this year....
Chucking it down here in Surrey. I just got drenched on my run this morning but feel absolutley great. Was even better as we got in the car in]t started thundering and lightening and tipped it down even more. I'm rather muddy as well - time for a bath methinks ))

i have a feeling that that then means next year we have loads of ladybirds and other things that eat small biting creatures
