I took up running earlier this year and a couple of weeks ago took part in an 8K charity run, which I managed to complete in 45.5 minutes .
I want to carry on running, but with the shorter days I am finding myself restricted to weekends. I prefer to run 'off-road' and do not think it is safe to do this in poor light. I have considered road running for the winter, but my partner is not happy about me being out on my own after dark. I am therefore thinking of getting a treadmill for winter training. Which is best, a manual or motor driven one? I am tempted to go for manual, not just because it is cheaper, but in my mind it is more akin to running outside i.e. speed is dependent on me!
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Mmm, I just bought a treadmill, the advice I read beforehand said don't buy a manual one as you will work so hard that you won't run in your true style (or something like that anyway), ie you will get knackered trying to get the thing to move, rather than gain anything from it training wise!
I just bought a treadmill on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250166493280&ssPageName=STRK:MEAFB:IT and am very pleased with it, I checked out a few other sites and there is a similar one in the Tesco direct catalogue for £597.00.
If you have a bit more to spend this is a good machine, and I have dealt with the seller and he is a tidy chap.
