  • Hi All

I will be running the 2008 London Marathon for Epilepsy Action

This charity is close to my heart as my younger brother has recently had a number of seizures and now he is unable to take driving lessons and is unlikely to be able to fulfil his dream of entering the Police Force. Epilepsy Action provide a dedicated network of support to those who have epilepsy and the families who suffer from the condition. I feel that it is important to support a charity that raises awareness of Epilepsy and helps those with it, especially young people.

I have set up a donation page at www.justgiving.com/steviec and will be setting up a training blog on the London Marathon site.

    Thank you for your time

    Steve Carr
  • Earlier this year a close family friend was diagnosed with cancer. She has undergone chemo therapy and more recently exploratory keyhole surgery. Unfortunately there is nothing further the doctors can do as her body is riddled with the disease…she is only 14.

I was already planning to run the Great Wales Run in Cardiff on 29th July and now I intend to do it to raise some money for CLICK Sargent – a charity that cares for children with cancer and leukaemia. If you wish to donate or sponsor me please visit

    http://www.justgiving.com/mykey

    Many thanks,
    Mykey
  • Last year after a 5 year battle with cancer my beloved mother died,so I am running in the New York Marathon in Nov for the local hospice here in Ireland(Mayo/Roscommon Hospice).I have set up a website www.nyrun07.com so please pay a visit I would greatly appreciate any donations.

  • Hiya
I'm running the Anglesey Marathon in September to raise money to test the hearing and provide hearing aids for Kavule School For The Deaf in Uganda. The hearing of many of these children has never been tested, and a hearing aid could benefit them immensly, for example allowing them to hear a car coming down the road.
For more information about the school visit www.buildingbrighterfutures.co.uk where you can also donate. 100% donations will go to Uganda and not to administration, salaries, etc. so even the smallest donation can make a massive difference
    Thankyou
    Sarah
  • Hi,

I'm running the Great Eastern Half Marathon in Peterborough at the end of October for Crimestoppers. They are the only charity dedicated to stopping crime. People can ring in anonymously and even get a reward if someone gets convicted on the information that is given. If you want to find out more about crimestoppers go to www.crimestoppers-uk.org   I have only got a few sponsors so far and would like to raise £300. This is my first ever half marathon and the training is going ok at the moment. If you would like to sponsor me you can go to www.justgiving.com/zoeappleyard. Many thanks for taking the time to read this and good luck to everyone in the Great Eastern Run this year.

    Thank you

    Zoe

  • Just One Pound, please do not give anymore!

I am running the FLM 2008 for Tommy's the baby charity. It will be my first and I have a bonded place.

I am running for Tommy's because they are funding investigations into the cause of premature and still born babies, something that touched my family,

So please give me a pound and I will be running my heart out to raise money for this great organisation.

    Cheers

  • I am running the London Marathon for the 2nd time and will be raising vital funds for SENSE deafblind charity once more, last year l had a fantastic experience doing the marathon, yes l know it was a HOT day and yes l did lose 6 toenails and the more l dwell on it the more l am now aware of how much it took out of me physically for many weeks after BUT it is WORTH DOING. Memories really do stay forever l won't be breaking any records but l hope to complete safely and enjoy the experience as much as l can.

Running for SENSE makes all the HARD TRAINING worthwhile.image

Good Luck to everyone taking part ENJOY xX

  • On April 13th, instead of going along to the East Anglian derby to see Norwich City take on Ipswich Town I'm running the London Marathon instead!

It'll be the first derby game I've missed in ten years, and I've opted to run for Sue Ryder Care - just round the corner from my childhood home in Peterborough is Thorpe Hall, a fine example of the facilities they offer.

Both Norwich City and Ipswich Town have kindly arranged signed shirts for me to help with my sponsorship - any donation will be entered into a draw to win one of them!

    Thanks,

    Ant.

I've already running my little socks off, let alone on the big day itself image

I'm running for the British Heart Foundation which does a huge amount of work to research and educate us about heart disease and has come so far yet still so far to go.  My Dad died of a heart attack in 1998, which we believe was due to Deep Vein Thrombosis after a long haul flight, however DVT wasn't really known about back then unlike now.  Had the research been done, my Dad just might be here now to support me in my challenge.  I'm supporting the BHF so that other lives can be extended and saved.

The smallet amount will be greatly received and will be matched by Barclays Bank.

    Thank you.

  • TEENAGE CANCER TRUST.

I am going to be running my first Flora London Marathon this year. I am running for the fantastic charity, Teenage Cancer Trust.

Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers will find out they have cancer. Many get a raw deal, receiving hospital treatment alongside children or old people.

TCT provides specialist units in NHS hospitals for teenagers with cancer. As well as superior medical facilities and state-of-the-art equipment, units provide an environment where teenagers can meet others in a similar situation, allowing patients to build friendships and mechanisms to cope with their disease.

TCT has built 7 units. The concentration of medical expertise can improve chances of survival by 15%. Each costs over £2 million to build and TCT needs enough so that every teenager with cancer has access to one, should they need it.

As well as building units, TCT funds an education team to visit schools to talk about TCT and cancer, a Professor of teenage and young adult cancer medicine and a support network for bereaved families.

Please email me if you have any questions...

Or please sponsor me if you see this of a worthy cause...

  • Hi

My new husband and I (we got married last September) are running for Children with Leukaemia. A very close friend of ours has been diagnosed with lymphoma and it could strike her down at any time. Imagine if that happened to a child? My husband is a computational chemist (before you snigger, he doesn't have a clipboard and different colour pens in his lab coat!! He's a muscly tough guy!) at a biotech company working on cancer targets -  he gets to see how cancer affects people first hand, and spends his days trying to beat it!

I am a formerly obese couch potato who has used running to lose almost five stone and go from a size 20 to a size 8, beating a thirty a day fag habit to become an international lightweight rower. A back injury has put paid to my rowing for a while, but I can still run, and FLM 2008 will be my first marathon.

     Please sponsor us!! www.bmycharity.com/teamtaylor

  • Nice to have you on the team PigletPie
  • Also running for Children with Leukaemia.  Notice Little Miss Naughty ran Reading Half at the weekend, as did I, but I wasn't wearing a costume!  My best friend's colleague's daughter has just been given the awful news - let's try and beat this.

To everyone running for whatever charity - GOOD LUCK!

  • Thanks Rio!! I'm really excited but daunted also by the fundraising! Any tips from anyone?

  • Running for Shooting Star Childrens Hospice, great place gives families support and is'nt the sad depressing place you'd expect.  Worthwhile charity for life limited children and their family/friends, please support us at just -giving.Thankyou
  • Getting sick children better
    • Every 30 minutes, a baby is born with a genetic disorder
    • Today 4 families have been told the devastating news that their child has cancer
    • Each week 30 children are struck down by meningitis and 3 die
    • There are over 5,000 known rare disorders. They affect children and adults and many are long-term, progressive and disabling.

WellChild is dedicated to supporting sick children, whatever their illness. They work to find ways to prevent and cure childhood disease and illness and to improve the treatment and care of sick children.

  • Marathon Vrigin running at London this year. Hoping to get round the course before Monday morningimage

Any donation however small greatly received.

  • Running my second FLM for The Brooke Hospital for Animals, helping working equines across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America, as well as their owners. The Brooke provides free veterinary care and rehabilitation for sick horses and donkeys, as well as education and training for their owners to ensure they keep earning a living.

I have lived in Egypt and so seen their work first hand, and it is a truly amazing charity. Without the Brooke many poor families would lose their only means of getting their vegetables to market or ploughing their fields, and so probably starve.

Whenever I really don't feel like running, I just think of the horses and donkeys I saw and it keeps me going that bit further.

  • Running FLM for the first time for HEART UK.  They do great work on raising awareness of the dangers of inherited high cholesterol.

My mum died of a heart attack aged 70 because of inherited high cholesterol.  My brother had to have a triple heart bypass at the age of 37.  I was 25 when I was first diagnosed and skinny and fit.  Myself, my brother and sister are all on statins now to reduce our cholesterol and hopefully prevent any further problems.

I will be running in memory of my mum and dad who never got to know their grandchildren, and also for my brother who really suffered and still continues to do so.

It is a hidden killer, so the work that the charity does is vital.
