I've seen a steady improvement in my cycling over the last couple of month and dont want to stop/go backwards over the coming winter
I was thinking of Trying
Weekend Long Ride 2-5hrs
2 x 30mins recovery turbo session
1 x 90 min zone 1 turbo session (with short strength sprints)
What do you think?
What do you do?
What do you sugest?

Long rides on a Sunday with club normally. Really 3 hours min - 5 would be max.
Mid level 2 - if we use the Peter Keen 4 level thing. And if the ride doesn't get too mad !
I do my recovery spin at the gym on the bike there - 20 mins or so. Then I'll try and get in 2 40min Steady Zone 2 sessions.
Don't bother with intervals in the winter until the season is getting closer.
This was before I got into spinning though, so I'll be modifying this a bit.
Keep it up !
I do the following over the winter for IM distance events...
Sunday Long slow ride on the road 3-3.5 hrs @ lsd HR which for me is 121-131. If the weather is really crappy i'll do a back-to-back turbo session which consists of 1hr @ 121-131 then a 2.5hr break with no food being taken, just plain water then another 1hr @ 121-131. No longer than 2.5hrs apart.
Wed Turbo session for 1hr @ 131-149
Fri same as Wed
Whilst still doing my Tue/Thu/Sat swims
and my Tue/Thur/Sun runs
Sunday is a Long bike+short transition run
Sounds like you follow the Pete Read method of training?
all kinds of good advice on www.tacx.nl
got my tacx from st. johns cycles 2 year ago when I couldn't run (shin splint).
very boring & hard work, sweat loads, but stick on some load crazy music.
You can actually improve hillclimbs / sprints / endurance, which makes those early spring rides that much more.

Not heard of Gordo Byrn ? Who's he ?
Dunno about you, but I tend to go off road for winter 'training'.. just seems more 'fun' getting wet cold and muddy instead of just wet and cold.
I think it helps with the climbing side of things too as there always seems alot more of it in mountain biking (at least where I live!).
OOoh - ta for that vid - I'm onto the womens bike so far - they aren't very good at it are they ? Clipping wheels - not changing down for 180 degree corners ? Tut tut.
crazy about the u bend corner, not one of them did!!
and I'm a mountain biker, mudguards? Wot dem?
I can't ride outside during the weeks in winter when it's really dark and nasty after work so do a lot of sessions on my indoor trainer. Wussy maybe, but then we do get a lot of ice and snow and I'm just not up to tangling with that on two wheels, it's bad enough trying to stay upright on two feet!
Has a fan (take off to reduce noise) and magnetic resistance. And lil computer to see how long you've been riding and what wattage/calories and stuff.
buy some big powerful night lights too... It really adds to the fun factor!!! I regularily go out in winter twice a week night riding with mates.. track you know by day just look so totally different by night!
;o)
Nightlights would be a great idea. Lotsa fun, but not that much off road round here.
You do get a blummin good workout on the Turbo though.
Or do a spin class at the gym. (I'm on commission)
(um and yes, they do...!!)
But there really is nothing like riding along in horizontal snow at night with half ya' face frozen from the wind....
will have to try the night stuff one day (got given some good lights this year..not used them yet...)
you'll be fine... trust me I'm a dr...
[Twinkle...]
(I heard a rumour...)
Was that Bananarama ? They were good.
and what rumour..?!!!
aren't we in lochness then anyhow Nic...?!!!
