PS Hi guys, just got back - I`ll post more later but thanks again for a great weekend.

  • BTW - Vicki - I thought your text speak was pretty fast..... image

Mother - how did you feel seeing TWO vicki thompson's yesterday? image

How ironic is this? My running mate, who was in GNR thru one of the guaranteed entry place thingys and who pushed me into doing it thru a charity place peeled off his sweatshirt yesterday to reveal his race number - 24993.

    Mine was 24994.....

  • Bleeding hell, looks like I am gonna have to keep an eye on this thread until next year.

I have already done a race report on the 2008 thread.

    Shielsy wrote (see)
    Jovi Runner wrote (see)

I also enjoyed running through the various impromptu water hoses - not to mention the kids squirting water bottles at you.

And not to mention the firemen at mile 7! They were a really welcome addition this year image

I saw them too, and what made me laugh even more when this runner leapt directly into the flow and them screamed so loud that it was cold. The firemen were in stitches.

Just had a look at my official stats on Great Run Website:

    Finish Time: 1:44:25
    Overall Position: 4149
    Age Group Position: 2204
    Gender Postion: 3744
Age Group & Gender Position: 1977 (My year of birth!!!)

Have to say I am pleased as punch!!!

By the way...just a small thing - being the saddo that I am I had to check though some of the results by number listing cause the search facility wasn't playing, and someone with a 55k number managed to get round in 1:30, so I guess it's about how much you want it on the day and no matter where you are, you're gonna be held up by people slower than you, and you're gonna hold up people quicker than yourself.
Vicki - maybe they complained and provided proof of a faster time. I remember when we were reallocated our start zones last year we kept the same numbers.
  • not a great race for a PB i've been told...more for the occasion...true??

  • True, Simon - unless you're near the front.
  • Well I got a PB. Okay it was my first half-marathon. So beggars belief that if that is what I ran my half in what will a be like on an event which does have PB potential.

And can I ask where was the downhills? After the 3 mile incline I saw a little notice that said we now had 3 miles downhill. 'Yay' I thought, but after what appeared to be 5 minutes downhill I was back on an incline and it seemed this way for the majority of the race. Well apart from that steep decline which I thought I was gonna go arse over tit (if I had any)

  • Mike - yes, I remember when I did my first GNR being surprised how undulating it was. I used to run at Gateshead Stadium when I was younger (as a sprinter) and I just dont remember that incline up to Heworth being as much - then again, I was 20+ years younger!
  • THATS ME ON

  • Hey guys

Thanyou all for making me feel so welcome yesterday and also thanks for the night out too I had a fab time.

If any of you fancy donating to the charity I ran for the best way to do it is by going on line to www.justgiving.com/richardmsmith.

The muscles ar holding up fine but the foot is killing me, had it x-rayed at the hospital and nothing broken but they think ive sprained the muscles in the foot so im on pain killers.

Once again guys I had a great time and it was great to meet you all.

Going to enter for next years when the ballot opens too as is MOTR I think if I can convince her.

Anyone wants to look me up you can find me through MOTR's facebook page.

  • Hey all! Well done everyone for some great running yesterday. I feel like my legs are broken today! Although I have just sat 6 hours in the car to get home which doesn't help I'm sure.

Big question is, would I do it again and the answer is defintely yes! But this time, I'm going to be a lot better prepared!

    Hope everyone is well.

  • Well done to all for 2008 GNR.  I started in Zone C. Got there very early so enjoyed being relaxed whihc helped. Beautiful day. Running it last year helped me make the most of my 2008.  First mile was 7m 45...managed a PB of 1hour 38 which I was shocked at.  3 minutes quicker than last year.  Only down side for me was the guy who barged past me around the 10 mile mark and swore at me.
  • Hi, R.S.P.T.

Good to met you last night.

    Look after that foot.

  • Hi, Anson - glad you enjoyed it. I'm sure your legs will be OK in a day or two.

Cracking effort, David. I suppose in a crowd of 40,000 or so, there are bound to be a few @rseholes - shame you had to get so close to one.
