I have to say - what on earth is the seller all about? Rode it for 20 mins in the shop and a mile on the road? If I was committing that much money to a bike, I'd buy the right thing, not buy it then sell it on ebay (unless, of course, he owns the bike shop and/or stole the parts)
I don't believe the explanation for the sale for a second. It doesn't fit? Rubbish! Who cares when your bike looks this good! More likely it SHOULD read:
"For sale, hubby's pride and joy. Caught him with another woman. So I'm screwing him over by selling the one thing that #@%! cares about! Ahahahahahaha!"
The frame looks bigger than 48 doesnt it! Everything on the bike spot on though. Can't remember how much carbon is involved, but you wouldnt need to do much upgrading.
I can believe somebody buying such a bike and not using it..... Unfortunately triathlon has plenty of "buy a new bike and I'll go faster types" ! There was one bloke last week at Sherbourne riding a bike that must have cost at least 3 grand, and he was going up a hill on the big chain ring and towards the bottom of the rear block at a cadence of around 50 rpm. I reckon he was doing about 4 mph and was all over the road ! It's OK having a good bike, but it's not a lot of good if you can't (or don't know how to) ride it.
I was thinking surely if someone wants a nice bike it doesn't mean they have to be an expert on it-everyone has to start somewhere. That's why I won't go to a cycle club. Maybe running is more friendly sport afterall!
Hilly, That post wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, and was definitely not intended to cause offence. Just an observation. I'm a sucker for a sexy bike, and have been known to "overspend" (I've got 3 bikes at present). You'll find that the tri fraternity is actually much friendlier than running - at least I have. Good luck with your new bike - enjoy it.
Pretty easy really - if it's winter, raining or bad weather, the "winter training bike" gets used, in summer the "summer training bike" gets used (only in good weather though!) And at all other times the "race bike" gets used - normally for racing or training close to a race - the riding position is more extreme than on the other two. Hope this makes sense - works for me!
I'm similar to cornish but I have just one training bike (trek 1200) that I use for all my training outdoors (when not in gym doing spinning or sitting on those silly upright bikes with mama-cass saddles!).
I only use my racing bike for raced only! oh, apart from when I have to cycle to the race and back. For one, I have carbon bladed wheels, which I want to look after.
Hi Monique. Best thing to do is send the guy an e.mail to confirm this, but he does say on the ad that the rear is compatible with 8-9 speed which sounds to me like there is enough space. someone else (who knows more about bike mechanics) will hopefully be able to give more info. I have these 4-blade spinergy wheels on my bike and I love them. Think might be an idea to buy 4 beam-bridges for the rear wheel though to stop any flex. only cost a few quid.
I also saw a pair of these spinergys being sold in the london tri exhibition this year. 2nd hand for £400. So £190 is very low.....at the moment....
Spinergy wheels usually come as either campag or shimano compatible - I bought a secondhand pair for 300 instead of almost 600 - best thing is to check their website: www.spinergy.com (I think!)

I know I don't know much about bikes, but I like nice things:o)
I'm looking forward to learning more about the sport and especially efficient cycling.
I mean - I understand having a road bike and a mountain bike [I use the term 'understand' loosely ;o)] - but what other criteria do you use?
(Cougie doesn't need to answer this - I know he chooses his depending on the colour of his outfit)
