I have a problem fitting in those much needed extra miles, so I am considering running home from work.I work in London and normal go to and from work on my motorbike as I hate public transport. In order to clock up some much needed extra mileage I am considering using public transport into work and then running home. It is about 9 miles and the route would pretty much follows the tube line, so I could always jump on the tube if it gets too much. The problem is I carry my laptop with me. It is small and light (13" screen and about 2Kg) so I would need a rucksack / backpack that I could but this in. Don't need a specialist laptop one as I use a slip case. The rucksack I use on my bike is a Kriege R25 and is great. However, would be useless for running as it would bounce around. I don't need to carry my office clothes and shoes with me as well as these live in my office. Therefore, I just need a bag that will take my laptop (and bits), mobile, wallet, Oyster card, waterproof jacket and a drink, etc.Any recommendation?
I have seen the Salomon Raid Devil 25 on there site which looks good as the front pocket should help balance me out. Just can not find anyone in the UK selling them.

Crikey if I did that JP, I would spend half of my working day waiting for the computer to save/email stuff.
Not really an option. I have a load of software on it that I need and it would too expensive to buy a second copy of it. Anyway it is the firms laptop rather than my personal one.
I could leave the laptop at work the days I decide to run home. However, almost everytime I have done this (e.g. when been out drinking) murphy's law kicks in and there is a problem at work and I need my laptop to remotely sort it out.
If you desperately need exercise you could cycle in ?
The laptop should be ok. If it can take speed bumps, rubish road surfaces and other bumping around whilst I am on my motorbike then it should be fine
I really need to build up my running miles. The only time I get to go out is first thing in the morning and I really don't fancy getting up any earlier to fit more miles in.
I am looking at changing my hours at work so I can go out in the evenings instead but I can not do anything until my son changes schools in September.
Cycle in London! In my opinion you need to be slightly mental to want to do this. Everyone I have spoken to that has or does cycle has had an accident. With the route I would need to take there is no cycle path option other than for 1/2 mile.
If you want to try it - make sure you do a full back up before you leave the office.

I used to run with a laptop every day, although since i've moved I've no need to carry it with me anymore, but I used and still use this bag for my commute:

It's 30 litre, depends on what you want to take but it has enough pockets and also a waterproof cover that is zipped away until needed (another important consideration for carrying a laptop). I also put my laptop in one of those memory foam sleeves for added protection.
