All the Luton Marathon is on the 1st December but it is a three lap course and in parallel they run a relay for teams of three who run a lap each (about 8.73 miles).
Seems to me like this would be a great race to raise an inaugural URWFRC team entry. I think there are enough of us in the Luton / Dunstable and surrounding area to put a team or even teams forward. I have run it for the last four years but for various reasons my usual team can't do it this year.
The route is town and country, it starts in North Luton (not far from Leagrave railway station) and heads North out of town through a couple of villages and back. It is deceptively undulating but quite a pleasant run.
My usual time is about 1 hour 12 minutes. Any takers. Maybe if you post your name and likely time then we can put a team together and if enough for more than one we can group the teams by likely time. I am happy to do the organising if there is sufficient interest.

If you are coming by train then you can get from Kings Cross Thameslink to Leagrave (3rd of the Luton Stations). About a 10-15 minute jog from there but I could always pick you up. I wouldn't say there are any hills as such but there are some gradual inclines that go on for a while and you tend to find you run slower that you would expect (hence my deceptively undulating comment). I'll see if we get any more replies but I think I will enter a team at this stage anyway (You confirm the team names on the day). I'll check the start time I think it is 10:30am but obviously if you are running 2nd or 3rd leg you can get there later. Cost is £21 per team i.e.£7 per person.
OK entering team today.
Pizza Man you are in (despite being a Watford Supporter). Venom/Waapster - do you want to confirm yet ? Obviously this would leave us one too many if you both confirm so anybody else out there up for the challenge let me know because we can enter two teams (or more).
The start time is 10am for the first leg. Obviously second and third legs will depend on time but probably start 11am - 11:15 and then 12:15 - 12:30 with finish at 13:15 - 13:45.
Any views on which legs people would like to run (probably depends on when you think you can get there). I live 3/4 miles away and can do any leg. If I go first then my wife will step in to meet the second runner and pass out numbers etc. Lifts from Leagrave railway station can also be arranged if needed.
Cost is £22.50 for the team so £7.50 each.
Sorry, but I have to drop out. I've been talked into doing the Thanet 10 that day instead.
Good luck anyway.

I think it's a great idea though, hope you all run well
Being a gal most certainly does not exclude you - I have run in a mixed team for the last three years. 15 pints of Guinness the night before might not be good but you can always run the last leg and I'll bring a plastic bag !
Venom thanks for letting me know.
Waapster are you still on ?
Pizza Man - glad to have you on board. Will you be driving over ? If so I will make sure I send you some directions.
Is running in a Watford shirt advisable?
response please.
Watford shirt - UM ! Well maybe you should be last leg, just in case you don't return.
Actually maybe we should just give you a collection tin, most people in Luton would feel sorry for you !!
You're right about most people just talking a good race though. I thought the Inaugural URMFRC team event would generate a better response but maybe its quality not quantity that counts !
I'll send you directions on the race in the next week but basically Junction 11 of the M1, turn left then first right past the hospital (make a mental note in case you do wear your Watford shirt), down to the end and right onto Leagrave high street. Carry on for about 2 miles under railway bridge and straight on at roundabout by MacDonalds (race route is now on your left). Carry on over next roundabout and then left at the next one. Three quick roundabouts and turn left into Purley Centre to park (you'll see lots or Runners by then). It might sound a long way but no more than 10 minutes from the M1
OK Snicks let me know for sure once you are sorted.
cheers

Whats the score on a mixed team Paul.
My brothers free that day as well. If you need another running Watford fan that is.
Good luck with the runs elswhere Tep & Venom.
What about the rest of you.
No worries, mate. I wouldn't get on the pillion of my bike either if I were you... Not even my missus will! Anyway, best of luck on Planet Thanet.
And Pizza man and the relay team - you'll run a blinder, I just know it!
Young Snicks, I haven't even mentioned it to Tim yet. Any way don't you run better after a skinfull? I only stuck it in 'cause of the Watford shirt thing.
I told Colin I'd marshal it as I was injured at the time & thought I wouldn't be able to run in it. I e-mailed him the other day to tell him I could run it if he needs the points or I'd marshal it if he's short of marshals. I awiat his reply. Either way I'll see you at some stage. Top tip - wear a poppy.
Ta for the top tip - why a poppy? Is it a WJ thing.
Thanks for the 'young' BTW. I'm a looking for venue to celebrate me turning into a veteran on December 5th. How do you fancy two generations of female Snicksters and friends turning up at your gaff for pizzas and red wine!
See you both at Watford at the weekend. I am running the autumn challenge as well.
The poppy is because it is Remembrance Sunday and as the race is due to start at 11am it is held back for a minute's silence. Actually last year it was actually the 11th so it was 2 minutes. Poppies aren't compulsory but quite a few wear them.
Maybe we can meet up at the start. I'll check what my number is. We can then agree who is in this team.
Pizza Man , presumably we can spot you because you will be carrying a red bag (to keep the Pizza hot)
There's a thread for this in events now.
I'd love to have you and your sisters, friends 'n'all. I'll even buy you a bottle of vino.
