On the counter in Clinton Cards today, I saw a 'Congratulatios on completing your marathon' card. Probably about £4. Pretty standard, white, with lots of toned legs in shorts on it.
Couldn't believe it really. Just seemed to attempt to glamorize running somewhat. Maybe that's me being cynical, but running to me is about personal accomplishments.
Of course, you can raise money for specific races and feel good about having done something for charity, but overall, I'd say it's more about the fact that you've pushed yourself to your limit, endured more than you could imagine possible and crossed the line with satisfaction that can't be summed up in a card that you can get from Clintons!

A card for completing a marathon....what will the marketing execs think of next?
My mum got me a "Well Done" card after my first marathon, she was really proud of me. I keep it with a few other souvenirs of the day. They're there for people to buy for their friends, or not, as they choose. It's just another marketing opportunity for the card printers isn't it, like passing your driving test or something.
Top marks really to the marketer who got them onto the counter a week before London.
I could do with recieving a 'Congrats on making it all the way through your club track session without collapsing' card.
Never mind a marathon
Well seeing as I didn't get a valentine's cards this year it's nice to know I could get something.
The handy thing is if you DNF the sender only has to scribble NOT on the front of the card.
JIMO!!!! A gorgeous hunk like you didn't get a valentines card? What is the world coming to?
Um....er......I asked all my admirers to donate the money of a card to the Lifeboat service instead.
They brought themselves a aircraft carrier with the money.
</a> I think I know the one Jimo, you can buy it for $2.26 on peddlerpusher.net
LOL - that made me laugh out loud.
What is the world coming to when you have cards for something like a marathon?? It is an achievement, don't get me wrong, but I'm sure the person in question would prefer a nice bar of chocolate instead (or a large glass of wine!)
Well, that's what I would like!!
He he that's the idea marshallini.
And it could come enclosed with a ribbon with no medal attached.
Ooooh I hope D2D is TNGM cos she's doing Stratford and so am I. Imagine if I got to meet the legend herself!!!!
Also, I'd like a card for finishing a marathon but only if it had 50 quid in it
