Hi nice to meet you Dave the Ex Spartan And thank you for marshalling
I had a good time. The swim wasnt as bad as I thought - the only bad bit being that for some reason my goggles leaked and I had to keep trying to reseal them as I couldnt see!!!! Apart from that I quite enjoyed the swim.Transition 1 not as bad as expected but couldnt get my socks on! Now the bike - well that hill at the start was a lot more than I was expecting and I'm crap at steep hills so wasnt amused!!! But the downhills....fantastic! (Bit mad on downhills!!!) Transition 2 probably worse than the first one! Still couldnt get socks on and ended up with cracking blisters! The run after the bike is something I really cant see me getting used to! I just felt like I was really plodding not running! Haven got a clue what my time or position was will have to wait for the results. But it really doesnt matter cos I did what I set out to do....I finished!! But somewhere near 1hr 30mins would be nice!
Well done Colourin you're fab on a bike, you whizzed up that b*******y horrid hill! Nice to see you.
Farnie I didnt see you, did you go? And if so how was it?
I am over in Cheshire at the moment, am off to Alton Towers tomorrow so might be able to get to the swim in the evening , unless I need 15 goes on Rita Queen of Speed or something. What time does it start and finish?
I went for a swim in Nantwich today and finished my cool down in the outdoor pool, bliss.
Got my time from Deva Divas - 1hr 27mins Am v. pleased especially as when looking thro' transition times I was the 3rd slowest I think!!!!! (2mins)Oooops! That was T2. T1 is included in the swim time and I know for a fact that I was even slower in T1! So swim (750m) including T1 was 18mins (estimate T1 time 3mins at least poss more!) so delighted with my first open water swim. Way hay!!!!!
Anyone going this week?. Think I had better make an effort and do some OW swimming with IMUK next weekend and Bala middle being my only OW swim of the year so far
JP - Bala was my only OW swim of the year prior to IMCH last week! I'd recommend doing another OW swim prior to IMUK ... if only to practice getting the wetsuit off!!
I did the swim in 60 minutes - but did Bala in 33 I think. Having said that, I missed the start in Switzerland and was still on the beach 150m away when the gun went off!!
Just read back after being on holidays and seen the bit about there being a weird smell a week ago last thurs - I noticed that too but thought it was just me!
Then I ended up in A and E on Thursday night with a horribly sore eye, doc said it was scratched and already infected which surprised me, but he said infection sets in quickly if your eye gets scratched and you dunk your head in muddy water...wonder if any connection with smelly water?
Thats a bit of a concern with IMUK next weekend - anyone else have any problems? - could be a trip to pickmere instead.
Bry - are you part fish? 33 mins for Bala, I thought there was a rule that you had to faff about in the swim and take atleast 40 mins for a HIM and 1hr 25 for a full
Farnie - the problem is sluggie's eye infection from last thursday's swim!!. I dont want to catch anything this close to IMUK (so you better stay away ). There is NO Swimming in Rivvi, anyone caught doing so will be banned from all IM events
Are you still up for training rides for Nantwich, I will be getting out and about again after IMUK and my hols.
Re the eye - don't think goggles leak but I do rinse them out in lake water to avoid fogging I don't think I would have had a problem if it hadn't been for scratching cornea, no idea how I managed that. Just been pronounced OK by optician so will be dunking head in dirty water at Trentham this weekend.
Oh I seee, sorry I am not firing on all four cylinders
Is the actual IM swim in Rivvie tho? Just that you are not allowed to swim inthere to practise?
Just spoken to Martin re Sluggies eye and there was a guy there a couple of weeks ago complaining to Dave Q about having an eye infection. TBH he has swum without goggles, to which Dave Q told him he was stoopid then....

The down hill on Taylors Lane is great (I hit 45 mph there last night)
Just fill your running shoes with loads of vaseline and forget about socks

As Sluggie says - a scratched cornea probably isnt great for swimming with - so JP - just avoid doing that !
