If anyone is interested I have booked a Travelodge in Docklands for the night before and wouldn't mind sharing it with someone who has a car and could drive me to Hackney.
I'd love to be there, but am a little nervous about running 2 marathons in 7 days after my experiences with the FLM and Halstead. Is it teddy bears again this year?
If you are planning Marathons in consecutive weekends then you need to slow the pace a bit. When I was preparing for London to Brighton in October 2000 I first ran Two Bridges 35miles 26/8 in 6-43-27 then Moray Marathon 3/9 in 4-27-14. Then New Forest Marathon 10/9 in 4-47-21 and finally Battersea Park Marathon 17/9 in 4-17-51. London to Brighton was 1st of October and I just managed to complete it.
. As you can see, of the Marathons the last one was the quickest!
Prior to that I had been running between 4-15 to 4-25 about one a month.
Has joining in with the wife, this looks like a good way to spand a Saturday taking in the views whist wondering into London...... or have i read this wrong!
The views of loads of electric pylons are great! Nicest bit is through the country park otherwise it is what you would normally expect on a tow path. Not many boats but there are a few walkers around.
Have done previous events and personally I enjoy it as it is flat and a fastish course. Will be well organised and marshalled.
Would reccomend it as something a bit different from your normal Marathons
It's a shame this race isn't the other way round with the more scenic bits in the latter stages! Course that would rather defeat the purpose of finishing "in sight of the Olympic stadium".
Does it matter as long as you finish within the time limit? I will be recovering from a 6 day race (30th August) but still intend to give it a go!
By the way, if anyone wants to sponsor me for my 6 day race please e mail me. Charity is www.advanceinternational.org I hope to do 50k per day for 6 consecutive days.
Have decided to ditch Robin Hood in favour of Three2Go.
T&B, you should be fine with road shoes. They've been perfectly ok the last two years. It's mostly along towpaths so the surface is generally pretty good.
If anyone needs accommodation the night before the race I have a family room booked at the Travelodge in Docklands which I can share. (sorry ladies only!) E mail me if interested
Is this one any good for beginner marathon runners? I ran my first in four hours this year and am looking to do more longer runs. Any advice? It's not far from me and I'm bored of the quick 10km this summer...
It is a pretty fast course and if you are running around 4 hours you should have plenty of company. It gets a bit lonely for the slower runners though. If you want a good list of U.K. Marathons have a look at the 100 Marathon Club website. There will hopefully be a lot of us running this one.
I was looking for longer races and I have only just discovered this one. Am I right in thinking I just need to be able to get to Hackney by 7:45 AM in order to do a nice towpath race back in to London where I live?
Greetings All. Just entered this for my September marathon. Hopefully, this will be easier than Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 in August and Fairlands Valley in July. I have previously run part of the route (from Victoria Park via Hackney Marshes) to North London which has been tranquil and quite scenic in parts. It will be unusual to run a marathon back to East London. I would be interested to know if there will be many 'back of the pack' runners and also if the bus transfer service on the day can be relied upon. Looking forward to a promising event.
Manfromindia - I will be at the back for the pack as my fastest marathon is 5:23 and Super Girl Pam will be at the back with me, well in front of me probably The bus transfer to the start has always turn up and got us to the start for the race ok.
hellyd - yes you just turn up at Hackney Marshes at 7:45, but you have to have your name down for the coach.
Bertie - this race will be a lot flatter than Kent Coastal and you will be near water for most of the way like Kent Coastal. I have done Kent half 3 time.
Tracey - I ticked the box on my entry at 3togo that I was up for transport, is there anything else I have to book?
Manfromindia - didn't you also do the SouthDowns Marathon? I wanted to do Fairlands but sadly had to work. I'm pretty sure I've managed to wriggle out of work for this one (touch wood).
Supergirl Pam - I think I've seen you name on various Ultra threads that I've peeked into with trepidation. If I see you I may bombard you with a few (!) ultra questions.

Hello Pam.
I have entered this one too See you there.
Sir C de C,
What happened then?

I wonder whether there will be a bit more traffic on the river as it's a bit earlier this year.
As for Halstead and London... the sun came out. Need I say more?

All right then I'm in again
I seem to be rather busy in September (strange how that happens)
Hi Joe,
How are you, haven't seen you for a while?

Morning all...
Just signed up (last night) given I was meant to be running Kent Coastal but me being me left it to the last minute and its now full..!!!!
Seems to be a fair mix and will be using as a training run for NYC so I'll see you there!!!
Hello all, I see some familiar names on here.

helly d - you only had to tick the box for transport and then pay your £5 on the day. They would be grateful if you have the exact money thou.
