I discovered when I travelled to Asia that the only thing I couldn't manage without was Marmite. Found some in Vietnam after blagging a small pot off a British couple in Thailand.
Hope you're having a productive time Corinth. Doing much running?
I'll send Marmite, Corrie - but customs might not let it through.
It was viewed with suspicion when I took some to a friend in America. I was also quizzed about whether I was bringing gravy browning and something else innocuous - maybe custard powder? Can't remember now.
OMG! I remember missing marmite when I was in Texas. Try explaining it to them and they just can't fathom it.
Agree that the cheese is pretty naf, the bacon's too sweet and the bread is too insubstantial
I also missed salt & vinegar crisps (couldn't get them west of the Mississippi, apparently) and real chocolate (that hershey's stuff is simply dreadful)
My then boyfriend came to see me at christmas, and half his suitcase was stuffed full of things I couldn't get out there; marmite, crisps, chocolate, gravy powder, stuffing, custard powder - can't remember if there was anything else. Customs didn't quite know what to make of it all!!
When we go to our place in Texas we take Proper Marmalade, Bisto Powder, Yorkshire Tea, Jammie Dodgers & Party Rings!! You can get some of those in the Store but they are mega expensive. You cannot get biscuits though, all they have is 'Cookies' which can be pretty naff.
I agree re the bread, bit like that useless Nimble stuff they used to have here. We can get plenty of proper cheese though, even Wensleydale!!
When I used to go to Texas regularly the wish list for my ex-pat colleagues was pork pies, tunnocks tea cakes, crunchies, white puddings & bakewell tarts. I used to dread attracting the attention of the Customs Food Sniffer Spaniel with a suitcase loaded with 20 large pork pies.
Friends in Middle East used to request baked beans & an assortment of toileteries and hair products which were horribly expensive there.
Eccles cakes Proper bacon Proper cheese Marmite Also Material World The infinite Monkey Cage Newsnight Match of the Day Kirsty Young Winding up Liverbird Super League (Rugby) My dog Driving on the proper side of the road
I MADE THE LIST!!!!!
I miss you too Corrie!
I only have to read posts once these days to understand them!
Come back to us and leave those poor yankie females alone. God knows they suffer enough living in the USA

How about bread? They don't do bread over there either. Killer if you fancy a bacon sandwich with mustard.
How's it going though Corinth?
( LOL X-post BDB)
Shortly off to work
Bank details on the way Meldy
BTW - any of you Ultra Runners know if the Boa Vista Ultra is still run (Cape Verde Islands)?
I can't find any references to it on Google beyond 2003?
Your dog?

I lived in Canada and had food parcels of tea and marmalade. You can get Cadbury's out there so not too deprived in the chocolate dept.
Missed orange squash though - the nearest thing is a cocktail mix which was kind of expensive in comparison.
My parents brought Paxo and bread sauce mix out in time for Christmas.
We eventually found a shop with a large 'ethnic' section that stocked St Michael products but still stocked up from home when we could.
I'd view it suspiciously if you brought it into my house, tbh!
Bleugh!
I have just GRUDGINGLY let Mr Water Vole chuck away his marmite. I had never told him that It had a sell-by date of October 2000.
And it was still brown.
You could have had it, Corinth.....
