I started running 3 months ago and I couldn't even run for 60 seconds! Did my 5k in just under 30 minutes and whilst I know thats very slow compared to most of you on here I'm chuffed to bits! It's given me huge confidence for my forst 10k which is 7 weeks today.

Everyone runs at their own speed, be proud! Doesn't matter what time other people can do - any time at all is better than not doing it at all...
ETA - It's not a slow time anyway, perfectly respectable.
Keep up the good work!

Congrats yer_maj, esp on the time . I have been running five years and only managed a sub 35-min 5k for the first time on Friday
A little word of warning re your son and his running, I appreciate you know your son best and we live in a nanny-state, but please be careful that he does not run too much on hard surfaces ie pavements. And always make it enjoyable
Schmunkee I am worrying about it already!! I never run on concrete, only tarmac, and we did a 2 mins walk/2 mins run session of 20 minutes and ten loads of stretches but I'm already worrying that I'll break him!! I'll see how his enthusiasm goes over the next couple of weeks but I think I need to look into kids running clubs around here to make sure he does it properly....
ETA I am slightly concerned because his feet are EXACTLY the same shape as mine and I overpronate really badly - I have a niggly shint splint so I'm going to have to be very careful with him.
