The title says it all. I am going back for the fourth time. I never know why I enter as I find it so damned hard. Who else is about to suffer the bogs, hills, cow pats in the overnight camp, high winds, freezing rain, river crossings - in fact putting it like that I am suprised there arent thousands of others who want to do it.

Lamm looks excellent as well (www.lamm.co.uk)
I have done a bit of adventure racing and navigation.
There is also the Saunders MM in Lake district in June (?) and there used to be called the Capricorn.
The prob I have is no partner and there are no solo events
ha ha
luckily my other half is understanding- still it keeps me out of trouble
Saunders is firts weekend in July. There is a solo class, but you have to be completely off your trolley to do it. Its usually about 30 miles each day.
The Capricorn did happen this year, but I missed it since it is usually entered by orienteers. You don't have to camp out but return to a central campsite, and there are a variety of solo course.
The Capricorn also is usualy sometime during July.
I'll post this thread if I get to hear any more.
post up
any info abut this kind of event is always appreciated!
better or worse for a first time MMer ?
the advantage (for those without a partner)is that their are solo classes
they are in the lake district
I have never done it but had a application form for the event last year
(havent done kimm or lamm either but want to)
i need to get me some mountain navigation type training first.
Saunders - Beg of July http://willerup.com/running/saunders.html
Kimm - end Oct www.kimm.org.uk
We have seen some teams our for 11-12 hours on day 1.
Also to do the solo class you will have to be very good at navigation (this years Saunders was in low cloud with 50-100 metres visibility for most of day 1). Made it challanging!
Is the Klets class a score class?
(this would allow you to control your time out - I definately wouldnt be competitive in the field at this event)
Have you ever done the capricorn- and is that more moderate as a solo class?

Have you ever done the capricorn- and is that more moderate as a solo class? I suppose you dont need to cary all your gear for that as the camp is centralised.
Yes I've done 3 Capricorns. Two I did with the kids in the pairs class, and once as a solo job.
They also have different classes, and the solo one I did was about 3 hours on day one (again in awful weather) and about 1 1/2 hours on day 2 in brilliant sunshine. You needed only a day sac, with sensible stuff for a day in the hills. Relatively easy and relaxed (but thats me!)
I'll have to thnk about the Klets - I like the idea of it though but sounds pretty hardcore without the added bonus of map reading.
See how my training goes
Again I was in one of the lower classes, and there are tougher ones on offer. If its south of Scotland then I'll give it a go next year despite living on the Dorset/Somerset border.
If I hear anything before you do, I'll post it up

You're a star
I have tried to complete the Saunders MM three times now, and each time my (different) partner has been injured and we have had to drop out!
I am not eligible unfortunately- however will have to try and persuade (trick) someone into entering
