I have some training routes that are about 50 percent trail and 50 percent road and with the onset of winter I am looking to get some trail shoes which are also suitable for some road running. I currently run in Mizuno Wave Rider 13’s and find these to be a superb neutral cushioning shoe.
I am looking to ideally get some Mizuno trail shoes which are as similar as possible to the Wave Riders and that can accommodate some road running.
The trails are fairly muddy/boggy with some steep hills.
Does anyone have any suggestions, as when it comes to trail running I am but a novice?
Thanks.

Good luck in your search.
Thanks for asking the question rude-eye can't help as I have almost the exact same problem. I run in Saucony guide 3 so I'm looking at the guide 3 TRs.
Interesting what you said Mr Immune about compromise my OH said he finds his trail shoes (can't remember what they are) much harder on the feet, great on the trail not so great on the road.

Mizuno Wave Ascend are really rather good. I use them all the time on trails I have to reach by road.
or the Wave Harrier. I use these on hard pack trails and even some road (1-2 miles) without any problems.
The're not bad on the steep wet stuff either, though I prefer Inov-8s for the more extreme stuff.
Thanks for the feedback everyone, it’s very useful.
Does anyone know the differences between the Ascends and the Harriers, such as which is more cushioned/road suited v harder trails?
They fact that the Ascends are a multi purpose shoe is the main reason I choose them. My feet and achillies suffer on the hard stuff if I wear a low profile shoe. I can run 50/50 trail/tarmac no problem in the Ascends.
The Harrier is a very good shoe but is low profile hence is more trail specific although you will get away with a few miles on tarmac.
I wear Inov-8 roclite 320 on the real muddy stuff but even tho they are supportive they are not supportive enough for the hard stuff. I am impressed enough with the Ascends to wear them at the Brecon 40 miler next month and i'm sure they will be up to it.
Hope this helps..
