windproof materials are probably more important than anything else - especially on the torso and arms which take the bulk of the wind and do the least work compared to the legs.
the key is layering - a good base layer (not necessarily thermal) that wicks sweat away, followed by one or two top layers that are windproof and wicking (I tend to go with a jacket and a gilet). winter long finger gloves that are also windproof and something under the helmet (hat or buff) to keep the bonce warm. a buff around the neck can help as well. and overshoes with either decent winter socks or perhaps even sealskinz which are water and windproof.
I bought some arm warmers this winter (after asking on here how to keep my arms warm) and they have been brilliant. I use over shoes too and I got my gloves from Aldi when they had their bike gear in and they keep my fingers toastie.
Im looking for a decent jacket, long sleeved one, I've got a waterproof jacket, I just want a tight jacket so it doesnt feel like im taking off going down hill

A woolly hat under your helmet or if it's a bit warmer try a pirate buff. A second buff is useful round your neck
I work my way through a collection of different gloves depending on temperature. In the coldest weather I have a pair of cheap ski gloves.
Neoprene overshoes are excellent for keeping your feet warm.
A windproof jacket that is light enough to fold up in a pocket if you get too warm.

other than that - ride quicker....
Buffs are brilliant for the head and neck,
Ski type gloves, or mittens even better if you really feel the cold.
Get some overshoes for the feet too. Planet X have a good pack with a merino jersey, overshoes and neoprene gloves for £35 I think ?
Have you tried a hipflask?
Arrrrrrrr!!! Now I understand!
