I've entered the Sussex Marathon as I didn't get a place for London (would have done Brighton again but I'm working!).
Has anyone else applied?
Sounds like it should be a good route, well, scenic anyway if not too flat! Anyone on here from down that way and know much about the course?

I have written to the course organizer. They are still trying to finalize the route. Credit to them that they answer email enquiries super-duper fast. Once the course is set with the town council, I am told that it will be made known online.
Happy Running! God bless you.
I might do this (instead of Halstead) as there are some great training run opportunities in around London that correspond nicely with the April 3rd date. Anyone driving down from London?? I'd have to travel down on the day so it all depends on the train times or if I can get a lift -- as I don't have a car.
Apparently it's not traffic free, which i'm not too bothered about as long as I don't get heckled or run over.
judging from the pictures here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/54931852@N06/
Bodle street green, Ashburnham place, Penshurst are all shown so that's the area west of Battle... it's a reasonably hilly area but nothing tooooooooo bad
haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, but it should be a good one
The course map is up - I've mapped it on various different websites and had a massive range of elevation details -
Bikehike and my Garmin both make it 2,000 feet plus.
Map my run 1,000 feet. If you compare terrain profiles you can see why - I wouldn't trust the mapmyrun profile at all.
The final part of the route takes you along Powdermill lane, now that is hilly. (approx 50m climb over the last mile ).
approx marathon route
Download the gpx file and upload it into bikehike

Could be interesting the day after Crawley 6 hour track race!
Need to find somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay
I have a comfy floor.
There are a couple of travel lodge type thingies on A22, one Bowship end the other Polegate end.
Good Morning
mapmyrun beta has this run mapped.....it shows elevation gain at over 300m.....compared to halstead at about 110m.....can this really be the case? Anyone have any thoughts on this course/accuracy of mapmyrun?
I've emailed the organisers twice now about a risk assessment/insurers, but no response.
B66 - mapmyrun is pants for elevation imho - download the gpx file and upload it into something more reliable.
Having said that, the final route is less hilly than the provisional route according to the website.
Hi Guys
I work out near the course so checked it out today and was quite surprised with howLUMPY it was - and i was in my VAN!!!! def not a PB course - it will be challenging.
I was hoping for 3.11- 3.13 and a GFA place for London next year, but would put another 15- 20 mins on that at least now.

Hi All
I have a none running related question for any locals. How far away is the start/finish form the site of the Battle of Hastings and if I go there is there anything to see?
I thought I might get my geek on after the race and have a look.
Hi Mr Guy,
not that much to see I'm afraid.....as I remember it's a rolling bit of countryside with one of those audio guides to help you imagine the battle! Nice town though!
I have just looked on the website and it says “The death and violence of 1066 have left no visible trace in the landscape, nor have any relics of the battle ever been found.” Sounds thrilling! I am going to have to go and see it though I can’t help myself. I will just have to warn my wife in advance that I am taking her to look at an empty field. I have a feeling that lunch after is going to be expensive!
May have to pull out of this one (overseas work commitments).
Does anyone know if they will allow transfers? If so, I have a place going spare.
