Hi I'm new to Tri and just brought some new pedals shimano pd-r540 SPF sl sport. What shoes would match my pedals? I'm on a budget so looking around £40 or is that to low??
If they have the normal 3 bolt fixing for the cleats they'll fit any road shoe - I've never had mountain bike shoes but I think some or all of them are not compatible with road cleats.
edit - personally I think so long as the shoe fits then the only real difference is the weight - carbon soles etc are nice but in the real world performance advantages from the stiffer sole is a small fraction of a percent - if anything. So don't feelyou'll be disadvantaged by getting some £40 road shoes from Decathlon or wherever instead of some bling £100+ jobs. If you want them for tri then single or maybe double strap opening will make for a quicker shoe change and go for white or as brightly coloured as possible.
Those are SPD-SL pedals so any shoe with a 3 bolt fixing will do the job. As Popsider says, if you are racing tri make sure you can get in and out of the shoes quickly so look for ones with velcro straps. You can get tri shoes, that generally have one strap, but they're lighter with lots of holes (for ventilation and drainage) so are chilly in the colder months.
Hi ST! Look for shoes capable of taking the spd sl cleats. Wiggle do some of their own brand (dhb?) which come recommended for about £50. I have shimano ro86 shoes which are great - 2 velcro straps and 1 ratchet clasp, so they are a good fit for bike rides and are also easy to leave open for a fast entry in a Tri. I think they were about £70.
I got the cheapest ones i could find, the wiggle DHB ones, after a problem with sizes (i had to send the first ones back and change size) they work a treat. I would recommend them. I got the road cycling ones with three straps but they do a tri one with one
But don't really know anything and have nothing to compare them too!
I also bought two pairs - the first the same size as my runners, and the second half a size up. The first pair were very tight, and the second were just right. Now however, my shoes feel a little loose.

Hope that helps!

I use DHB for the spin bike and they are about a half size bigger than other makes.
Both my Specialized road and MTB ones are normal shoe fitting.
