Well done on the 10 miler. If you are happy then it is a good result. If you are used to running 6m/m then not so great.... Have a think to yourself why you run and try and make each run tick one or more of these reasons. I run to get fit, stay fit and hopefully get a marathon PB next summer so each run I do (hopefully) has a reason. Every mile takes me away from the old me and towards the 'fantastic' new me!
Congrats Darren. I think that when you can run a continuous 10 miles+ that's a real achievement. 100 mins is good, and the more you cover the distances the easier it gets to eat into that time.
Thanks guys, its something i wanted to try, and to work at too
I have 10k in Glasgow booked for the end of Oct, and planning for Half Marathon next year !! I'm sure it will get easier i have only been running since Jan as well
I started running in december for the manchester 10K (did it in 53 minutes, not my fastest, but there's soooo many people!!!) and I've done 10 miles in about 1.5 hours or there abouts, so we're not far off being on a par with eachother.
I've just decided to do my local trail half marathon in a fortnight, so that could be interesting! I'll have to really push myself this week coming to see what kind of pace I can comfortably do.
Good luck with everything, pal. As it's been said above, just decide what your goals are and work at them. I'm very comptetetive with myself. I couldn't give a toss what others do distances in, but every time I go out I feel i have to go a little bit faster/further...
Ah now, you didn't mention anything about hills in your OP! I guarantee that if you continue running over hills a few times every week, you'll get that 10 mile time down to sub 70 minutes.
I just wanted to say good effort on the 10miles! I've just started running again after a little rest, about 7 years! I needed a bit of motivation so just over a week ago i put my name down for a 10mile run, which is in 2 weeks!! I'd like to be going out to beat my PB but realistically i'm looking at it as more of a training run and will be glad just to finish it!
Just done my first 10 miler today at Swinton which was a great event and a real eye opener into the 'real' runners as i was one of the few not part of a club
I only usually do the Parkrun 5K events on a weekend so this was a big step up
Took me 2 hours as i didn't prep correctly and hit the wall after 8 miles with nothing in the tank but slogged on and finished
I'd ignore the demotivating comments saying it's slow and stick your chest out, top one!
Next one i'll be happy to finish without having to walk after 8 miles!
Darren, I think there've been some slightly negative comments about your speed. I think you should totally ignore them: good for you for finishing your first 10 miles! Your speed is bound to pick up the more you do it and the hills must've given you a pretty good work out as it is!
Well folks only me !!! a quick update i did a half marathon route today !!! But the 10 mile mark was done in 1 hour 31 !!! all the hills of Saddleworth payed off
I was a bit uneasy about some of the negative comments left for Daz on here, but in fairness he did ask if the times were any good! most comments were backed up with a motivational comment too.
So keep going, fella!
Try a trail run! I've just done one, and it damn near killed me!!!!
definitely fun, mate! it's a totally different style to what I'm used to, i run roads, usually flat or modestly hilly at best. you'd probably have a better go than me, being a man of the hilly regions. I was also pretty catastrophic in my prep so started to really fall behind after about 10 miles. So there's my beginners guide to failure, don't train and don't prep!

I realise its not the fastest time but something to improve on. All the hills in Saddleworth that does it

Iain.
Thanks for the comments, I should have mentioned that i live in Saddleworth which is a bit hilly especially coming home to Dobcross
I am sure that i will get quicker with some practice, thanks again for all your comments
