Are you on a 6 day week? Can't you swap hours over there?
I knew you said half iron, just being a dim witted postie, ignore me and I might go away. Toonie express in Lincolnshire put on loads of good trail races after xmas, so I shall be having a bash at them and also the 30k stamford race in Feb.
Im on a 5 day week and they have already told me I can't have the dambuster or vit off, so have had to put in for unpaid leave. I will try and wangle it off for the Beaver. Do you knof if the Beaver fill up quick?
I am seriously thinking of biting the bullet and entering the Outlaw solo, it would mean I would have to stick to the fink plan.

Thats rubbish matey ((hug)) Not done the beaver but heard it will take a bit to fill up. If you do outlaw solo what would be your weak point of the three? I think you can do it it's just a question of time and stuff.
Cake I did laugh, whats my week point, can I say all three!!
Told my OH that i'm thinking of entering Outlaw solo, his reply was 'well you know your gonna be out there for a very long time, don't you? lets face it your mara is 4hrs and god know what your gonna take to do the swim and the bike' encouragement or what? I hate the fact that he is just soo good a tri..hurrmph
Me to chuck For your marathon time your about average for must folks so I wouldn't think to much on that. Get some long bike rides in and if you need to get some regulare swim sessions in and think it over.
cake after talking it through sensibly with the OH (he knows me well enough) I know I can do the Outlaw, but it would be just get me round and as I am hoping to qualify for ITU long course in 2013 though my Vitruvian time next year, I need to be dedicating my training specifically for that. So affraid you have my company just for the bike. However I will be chheering everyone on for the run!
+1 for big day training. In the last 6 weeks prior to an IM i did 2 big days and a 1/2 IM. But then I am a little keen The big day session was
Swim for an hour Go home, have a coffee, a sandwich..... Go out for a 5 hr bike. - steady A big ride at this point but not that unusual Get home, crawl inside, eat bagels and chocolate milk Go out for an hours run Sleep
Well, I found it tough, ESP the last hour of the bike, and the first 30 mins of the run It's 7 hours.... But within 4-6 weeks you'll be doing 11 - 17. It's a really good confidence builder
Have a look at gordo burn tips - big day training for more info.
alright people...been a while....anyway to RP...and BB plodder....expecting to be out there for a long time is just fine....if you know my story i know whats its like to be out there for a long time...first IM was 13.5 hours....BEFORE i had to pull out....2nd IM i reached the finish line in 16.08...but so what?? i loved every minute and got my moneys worth...read my race reports....you'll love it do just do it. Long days training are well worth it too.....so get em in....as are long rides....if you've never done the distance before DONT leave it till the day.
cheers BBP...does that stand for blackburn?? me and Mrs B are from chorley...she is taking on IMUK this year so we'll be doing plenty training rides come the spring round that course...be amazing prep for the outlaw if you are from there and fancy it
Andy, yep!! It does stand for Blackburn. For my sins, I'm Blackburn born and bred!! although I live near Whalley these days, if you know where that is.
I would definitely be up for some training rides in the Spring. some company would be great
Are you doing the Central Lancs half in Jan again, BB? (You overtook me in the last mile this year as we weaved across the road - much to the organisers displeasure )
Hi Frodo, I remember getting told off for that too .
I'd love to do it again, but unfortunately I'm away visting family over Christmas and New Year. Pity really, as it was a great way to blow the cobwebs away after the festive period. Are you doing again?
I think so - it's a really good kick up the behind to start the year off with (this year's gave me a whole new level of PW for a half and made sure I upped my game for Helsby three weeks later!)
Those blog posts make for good reading Andy, well done. I've ridden through Belmont and over to Chorley (on a motorbike) and they're some pretty steep hills so I wouldn't fancy doing it with pedal power...just hope I've got what it takes to get to the finish chute at The Outlaw.
Cheers mofo...i do em regular on the motorbike too and wish i'd had it on the day.....its all about preparation mate...living close i was able to ride it, ride it again then ride it some more....once it came to the day (at least the second time) i knew i was over it....so it didn't bother me. you'll be ok....you need belief and the ability to grit your teeth and keep moving forward while you've nothing else to think about but how much pain you are in!!

Andy I enjoyed reading the blogs and well done. I am sure I am capable of finishing an IM, thats not the problem. I don't like doing things by half and would want to 'race' it, not just finish it (it's my inner competitive nature, that and the super fast OH ) So I am not 'bailing out' but just posponing it for a while, whilst I dip my feet in the HIM distance and find out what damage I can do in my age category. I will still be partaking in the Fink plan though as it is a sound plan.

Please count me in , can do the Sunday.

Great race reports Andy, certainly hits home the size of the task we are undertaking.
Well Done mate, you showed amazing guts and determination

Once you get 10-12 hours in, it is sheer force of will that keeps you going.
If you want it enough, you'll get to that finishing line!!
you'll be ok....you need belief and the ability to grit your teeth and keep moving forward while you've nothing else to think about but how much pain you are in!!
Andy, it's a really good local event, well organised and friendly. I would definitely recommend it . I think a few hundred did it this year
