  • I thought that about Relax too, Floose.

I agree with everybody else that such a big echoey space didn't work.

The thing about all of Russell's faffing about with the cannon was that he was only on his feet for about half the dance. What with last week's business behind the screen followed by aimless jigging about he seems to be doing less and less actual dancing.

Shame Jason lost his way. It was so obvious even I noticed it.

For me the high point was Aliona's costume. I know her choreography can be bonkers, but she is gorgeous.

And how far has the BBC come, from banning Relax to using it on prime time Saturday night telly!

I said the same thing to my sister!

Opening dance by professionals - the bits I could see looked good but the cameamen seemed to have no idea who they should be filming.

Robbie & Ola - it was fun, with lots of energy, but it wasn't a salsa. The lifts were quite good but not very much dance content between them. I was impressed by Ola's catsuit, and I'm sure my boyfriend will be watching that dance on iPlayer for the rest of the week!

Alex & James - thought it was OK but it didn't have the wow factor of a good tango. Agree with comment above that her dress was too long, is this intentional to mask dodgy footwork? I'm sure it is not the first time it has happened! I think Alex is consistently overmarked.

Holly & Artem - unremarkable. There were some nice parts, but I still think that they are a bit too laid back in all their routines. And even though the judges praised them for it, what is the point of using all the space if Holly is going to be forced to trot round like a show pony to keep up with Artem? At several points it looked as though she was simply running to the next point and would then stick in a few dance steps.

Anita & Robin - good effort but not as good as last week. Poor Anita, I think her confidence has been knocked by being in the bottom 2 last week despite a strong performance. Wouldn't be surprised if she went this week or next.

Harry & Aliona - there was no comparison between this and the R/Ola salsa! Much, much better but I agree with the judges that it didn't quite have that slinky quality that the salsa needs. But ohhh, that lift when Aliona cartwheeled over Harry's back and ended up in the splits - fantastic!

Chelsee & Pasha - disliked the song choice, but she did a very good job and captured the carnival spirit of samba.Very bouncy and I was pleased to see some of the harder samba moves in this routine, which have been missing from several sambas this series!

Russell & Flavia  - a novel approach to have Russell floating above the stage while Flavia dances. Agree that the joke is wearing thin, he should be out this week ( but probably won't be). He danced much better in the training video than on the night ...

Jason & Kristina - it was good but shame about the mistake, in my opinion he was overmarked by the judges. I stand by my earlier comments that he is running out of steam a la Scott in the last series.

I'm so tempted to peek at the spoiler but will try to wait, just over 90 minutes to go *drums fingers impatiently*

    Nope image

I know that Holly's dance wasn't great, but I don't think she should have been in the bottom 2. I'm glad that Russell went, he has been hugely entertaining and none of those who went before him were championship material. We only have a couple of weaker dancers left now, and it is right that they should go before the better ones.

  • Lol I'd forgotten that xine67.

Can't believe Holly was in the bottom two

  • BB ✭✭✭

I am really glad Russell went, it would have been bad if Holly had gone and he'd stayed

So, Anita and Robbie to go next?

  • Let's hope this week was just a blip for Holly... and the person choosing her outfits.
  • I watched the show tonight which was a bit rubbish apart from the lovely Claudia with Len's lense. Right result, Russell can head off with his head held high before all the moaning starts of better dancers going out before him.  Perfectly timed really and I've found him hugely entertaining this far.  But lets get on with the dancing now.

I think Holly will bounce back. It was a bad night for her, not helped by wardrobe. Shouldn't make a difference, but it does cos I'm fickle like that. image

  • I agree - they made the poor girl look truly dreadful.....
  • TopSecTopSec ✭✭✭
I thought she looked nice image and Ihave to say she looked fabulous in the opening routine tonight; short dress and boots!!

I thought we were in for a 'shock' as someone said earlier it wasn't who they expected in the bottom two and then of course the 3 obvious ones were put through to next week first. i was dreading it was going to be Jason.

I think now that those 3 (Anita, Alex, Robbie) can sort of go out with their heads held high as now Russell has gone it is their time coming up? Unless we really see who is getting the votes from the public. Anyway another week ahead so a whole new ball game image

  • TopSec, you're blind.  She looked terrible.  That dress did nothing for her.

But you're absolutely right about her outfit for the opening number.  Phwoar image

  • Steady there Mr W. Or does Pink not follow this thread? image

Russell should have gone a few weeks ago. He was a one trick pony and the joke wore off pretty quickly. He certainly should have gone before the lovely Rory.

From the show last night it looked like the only reason for taking the show to Wembley was to boost the judges egos. they were milking the dances for all they were worth.

  • Morning all!

COmpletely agree with everything you all said  image. Wembley was waaaaay too big, I'm sure most of them spent more time running about trying to cover ground than actually dancing. Loved Alex and Chelsee, Holly's outfit was awful, but Harry's was fabulous image.

Finding Jason annoying as hell though... he's so INTENSE!

    I want Rory back image

  • Really need to get my home broadband sorted out!

Robbie: if they hadn't said what the dance was I would have had no clue. Loads of energy but not great dancing. I don't like catsuits - ugh! I think he'll be the next to go now he's done the Wembley thing.

Alex: I agree re. the Relax comments, how odd that's it's acceptable on tea-time TV now? It was a good dance but I didn't think it was great as the judges said.

Holly: Weird costume and hair and it was a shame she couldn't keep up. I thought it was one of the few routines to really try to use all the space properly and the opening on the steps was fab. Welcome back Artem!

Anita: Didn't like this at all. Odd choice of music and not v. well danced. I think she's gone the next time she gets a fast latin

Harry: Great routine and it was danced well but something still seems to be missing. Maybe it's me as I don't find him that attractive, he's a bit bland. Interesting that the judges picked up on the backstep again, I'm sure they said the same thing about Matt last year?

Russell: enough already. Weird entrance and just a hideous ending image Nobody needs to see a grown man playing peek-a-boo with someone's gussett! The actual dancing was OK but he's obviously the weakest of those left.

Chelsee: brilliant beginning and such a shame something went wrong when she started dancing with Pasha. I thought this was the best dance of the evening and she's the best natural dancer in the competition. I like the partnership between them as well.

Jason: I feel bad because I was evilly hoping he would fall over and then he went wrong image It was pretty good up until then but he's just such an odd mix of desperation and droning boringness. I thought it was odd when he said "We went wrong" when it was actually just him!

I had a horrible feeling that Holly and Artem would be in the bottom 2, so glad they didn't go home. I don't think they're going to make the final as Holly obviously isn't going to make that breakthrough now. But I think they deserve a few more weeks so I can keep watching Artem!

    image

  • Yes, it was time for Russell to go now. I too am not very taken with Jason, and agree that there's something missing with Harry, he's a good dancer but doesn't do it for me, he just isn't sexy. Robbie now, on the other hand, I'm definitely attracted to - must be his "bad boy" image, he's right about having been hated on the footy field. Artem though............as my best girlfriend used to remark when seeing some especially tasty looking bloke - wouldn't kick him out of my bed would you?

hmm, back to the dancing. I think Chelsee's going to win.

  • Well I think a lot of us agree again.

Wembley was a bit OTT and moe of a show than a competition but good atmosphere for the dancers and nobody froze which was good.

Alex- OK I quite like Alex and I did think it was a good Tango and they did it without trying to take the whole dance floor in. I think her lead was deserved. She is in with the top 4 now, actually possibly replacving Holly, without really giving the impression she could win.

Robbie - was mad and not great

Anita- her worst dance by far. Just didn;t suit here. She will improve from her but possibly will go soon. She danced much much better last week and was bottom two BUT of course last week she in the middle of the scoreboard. This week people knew they needed to vote for her to keep her in.

Holly - which brings us to Holly. She was in the middle of the board with Jason and certainly thought she might be bottom two and so it proved. Glad she stayed in. Her dance was OK BUT agree with those above. Looking to use the whole floor and it was fast and she just looked like she was running around. Not only was the dress not great to look at it let her down in the dance. Usually Quickstep is in a long dress and hides the manic footwork which enables people to be swan-like. I.e. all the mad footwork is submerged. Here it stood out and was a fair score. By the way have always thought Holly is OK but the short skirt and boots look. Yep did it for me as well image

Jason - Also middle of the scoreboard but he danced well and then messed up. People will have some sympathy for that so not surprised he escaped the bottom 2. Just lost his way. Apart from that a good jive but not that great and nobody has ever got anywhere near Jill Halfpenny's Jive. I still remember that dance and still think it was the best dance ever on Strictly outside the show dances. She was unbelelievable that right and genuinely better than some of the Pros (mainly the ballroom rather than Latin specialists)

Russell - No dancing whatsoever this week. He can dance a bit but for the last few weeks has reprised a light entertainment routine. It has been entertaining in its own way but time was up and right that he went.

Chelsee - Agreed that the opening sequence was superb but didn't seem as effective in hold and I think that was because her timing with Pasha was out. Good dancer but I still don't like her... sorry. I tthink she will make the final and deserves to but we'll see if she can win.

Harry- also agree with above. Good dancer but always something not quite there and not sure entirely what. Perhaps not enough hip on Saturday and that would be caused by an over large step so Len probably spot on. Although the lift was illegal Aliona's split landing was superb and that did rely on Harry putting her down spot on so she could carry it through. My wife is absolutely convinced something is going on with these two.

So I agree with the leaderboard on Saturday and that Russell should go.

I think there is now a top 5, I think Alex is in there, so Robbie should be next then probably Anita although on her day and with the right dance she does very well (Salsa was definitely not her dance but it has now gone as has the Jive so don't write her out too early).

So the Final three, well it feels to me like Chelsee, Harry and Jason at this stage but anything could happen and not sure who would win of those three in a final. Will come down to a showdance possibly. That might suit Jason. He has plateaued but would pull off a shownumber if he can get to the final.

  • Usually by this stage of the series I will have clear favourites. this year I simply don't care - no-one really excites me. The silly VTs mean that we never get to see how the pairs interact in training and there's not even a showmance this year!
  • I agree with just about everyone which saves on the typing if nothing else image

I reckon if you put Harry and Holly together everyone would just forget about them - both good but boring and bland too...............just doesn't seem to be any spark of any sort..........

Not keen on Alex - seems to be the current judges fave and although good I don't feel she quite merits the marks she's getting currently.........

  • I think last year spoiled things for me. We had 4 dancers who were really great and we'd had loads of memorable dances by this point. This year I can only really think of Chelsee's quickstep (and maybe Holly's AS) as a stand out dance. There are still too many mistakes in routines most weeks. I don't think the VTs help either, I would much prefer to see the actual dance training not some naff comedy skit that painfully unfunny.

The only thing that's keeping me interested is Chelsee and Pasha's dancing and Artem as eye candy! image

  • I agree re the VTs - they say "lets see them in training" and then we get some dreadful "jokey funny" sketch instead.................

I really enjoy watching the training as when they are focussed on that rather than the saturday night performance I think you get more of the "real" stuff

  • <Breaking News>
Robin Windsor is out for Saturday - infected foot injury image so Brendan will dance with Anita instead image
  • he doesn't half get around doesn't he that Brendan image
  • LOL - I'm sure there's a chance that Brendan could win, somehow!! James Jordan should be very wary of banana skins.

I'm going to write to Father Christmas and ask if I can have Artem for Christmas image.

  • That Brendan, he'll dance with anybody! image

Hope Robin's foot recovers soon, poor thing image

<wanders off dreaming of Artem in a Christmas hat...> image

  • Susanna Reid must have trodden on Robin's toes once too often on Children in Need Strictly !!image

Agree on the VTs as well. If we have recorded the show we skip through them !

Did somebody say there won;t be showdances this year? Is that true!?!?

I do agree that not the same quality as last year but that is how it goes. There are 4 or 5 that are close in ability so it is close.

As for personality I am not sure we need show-offs. I guess I come from a sporting bacground. People always used to say Nigel Mansell didn't have personality which was sort of true except when he was in the car he was possibly the most exciting driver ever. So I guess my point is that the dance needs to be entertaining but I do accept that light entertainment is different from sport but if that is your criteria then Russell would have won !

Chelsee does wind me up though, She acts like a soppy 16 year one when she is in her 20s. She can dance though.

Also If Holly dances in that short mini-skirt and black boots on Saturday then I am voting for her.image

  • BtB, I said there is no 'showmance' this year, perhaps you misread that as 'showdance'?
  • I wouldn't mind if there were no showdances - they're normally awful! image
  • Yeah most seasons there's at least one person who I regularly think "wow" when they dance, hasn't been the case this year.
  • I agree - still waiting for a "wow" moment, although some have been pretty good, there have been no outstanding dances yet.
  • Agree about the "comedy" VTs, they're really painful in most cases, I'd much rather see proper training, okay it's very much distilled down but there's some genuinely funny moments usually.  Too many props this year for me as well.
